ARCHIVED Natural Solutions Personal Products
emeraldskies posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone use any personal care products from Natural Solutions or know if they contain gluten or casein? I saw on their site that some products contain soy: Open Original Shared Link. The term "vegan" was generally mentioned, but I don't know if that applies to all of their products or not. Also, what about Nature's Gate or Desert Essence? -
ARCHIVED Who's In Their 20's?
emeraldskies replied to GlutenFreeStudent's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm 27 and was diagnosed with celiac disease slightly over a year ago, but I've had signs of it since infancy. Yes, I've had a similar reaction even though I had most of the same health issues (and more) as the middle aged people I'd encounter. I was also told, "You're young; you'll bounce back from anything" repeatedly pre-diagnosis. I still haven... -
ARCHIVED Polycythemia And Celiac
emeraldskies replied to DrLeonard's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have regular polycythemia--elevated RBC's and no other blood cells. My resulting symptoms are headaches, weakness, lightheadedness, fatigue, itching, poor circulation, flushed face on exertion, difficulty breathing, and pain in my bones, muscles, and chest. I'm not sure what is meant by "disturbed vision" in the descriptions of the disorder, but I do... -
ARCHIVED Hypereosinophilic Syndrom,heart Problem
emeraldskies replied to grantschoep's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was just diagnosed with a condition that's similar but not the same, polycythemia. I have no idea what the cause is. The two most uncomfortable symptoms are poor circulation (my feet will never warm up) and numerous daily struggles to breathe. Even the tiny smoke released from the hair dryer is enough to make me fight for breath for over an hour. I... -
ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
emeraldskies replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm half Irish and half German. My grandmother, from the German side, is the only other family member who has been diagnosed. Same here. I followed the food pyramid religiously. And a lot of "healthier" foods have more binders, like in Lay's chips. -
ARCHIVED Coq10 And Nac Supplementation
emeraldskies replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I feel the same. That would be my ideal career, research, but I'm not fond of schools and there seem to be a lot of roadblocks in the way of certain research topics. The main way I am different from most doctors I have encountered is that they often get caught up in treating symptoms. I wouldn't mind neglecting symptoms if they can eventually be lessened... -
ARCHIVED Coq10 And Nac Supplementation
emeraldskies replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's in my personality to want to make connections to the bigger picture and to gain knowledge. I'm even more driven to get to the bottom of this. I can either give up or get back on my feet. Those are my only two real choices right now. I was lucky that I was tested or it would have taken me awhile to discover the casein problem. I still think I would... -
ARCHIVED Gf Medicine
emeraldskies replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called them awhile back, and they claimed they don't add anything containing gluten but that there could be a risk of cross-contamination. -
Appendicitis And Gluten/wheat Sensitivity
emeraldskies replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
While my celiac disease went undiagnosed, I first had an appendicitis attack at 20, then I had to have an appendectomy that day. Two years later, I had bad tonsillitis, and my tonsils were removed a year later. Here is a paper that talks about the association with celiac disease: Dig Dis Sci. 2001 Oct;46(10):2206-8. Increased risk of surgery... -
ARCHIVED Coq10 And Nac Supplementation
emeraldskies replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm glad to have the ability to do something about the progression. I am actually casein free and stopped eating all dairy products when I quit having gluten. I had IgA antibodies to casein. I mentioned being casein free (Gluten-free Casein-free) in my sig, but I just changed it so it would be more clear. I react to casein in the same way I do to gluten... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Gain My Weight Back!
emeraldskies replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You can look up the name of the vitamin on their site, and they will list the allergens that the particular product does not contain. If it doesn't say "no gluten" under the ingredients, it's not safe. They have a lot of gluten-free vitamins. Most will have the allergen-free list on the back of the bottle. I can look them up for you if you aren't able... -
ARCHIVED Aching Bones

Here are a few possible causes: 1. He could have low testosterone, common with malabsorption (which can lead to thinning bones) 2. He could have a bone disorder from malnutrition (osteomalacia causes constant bone pain) 3. He could have thyroid disease, which is associated with celiac disease (hypo can have a fibromyalgia effect, and hyper can cause... -

I never doubted your computer literacy--I know plenty who are computer illiterate and they would have difficulty finding this place at all. I don't know what happened exactly with your erased message. I tend to select all and copy the message repeatedly (sometimes pasting it into another application) while I'm doing anything in a web-based form because... -
ARCHIVED A Personal Question For The Ladies....
emeraldskies replied to frenchiemama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I have something similar. I had urinary tract infections all of my life, so I tried to stave them off with daily cranberry juice. Now that I have been on the gluten-free diet, I no longer get the infections, so I stopped drinking the cranberry juice. There is still something that persists that feels like a bladder infection. It feels like getting... -
ARCHIVED A Hard Time With Fatty Foods?
emeraldskies replied to emeraldskies's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
tarnalberry: Very interesting. That may be my problem as well. I've always had trouble with fried foods but not baked goods or stir fries made with olive oil. I wonder what causes this? Do any of you without casein intolerance experience this reaction? Jnkmnky: I had an ultrasound on my gall bladder and liver before, and they said they were normal... -

I had severe depression since the age of 13, and the gluten-free diet and treating my hypothyroidism took it away completely. So, there is hope that yours will end as well. -
We just got a deep fryer, which I am happy about because now I will have a greater variety of foods with higher calories to help me gain weight. After eating these fried foods (chicken and donuts), I have had short-lived and insignificant reflux, trouble concentrating (only during digestion), minor intestinal cramping, and loose stool. I don't think I have...

If you want to quote someone, hitting "reply" under their post will accomplish this (as long as you haven't deselected the "quote" button). "Add reply" below all of the posts will add your comment with no quotes and this is easier. I definitely need more studies into my neurological issues. I have had an MRI in the ER (but they were looking for other things... -
ARCHIVED My Doctor Wants To Put Me On Medrol, Help!
emeraldskies replied to meganlatebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did it give any specifics about the intestinal inflammation? I looked at a description of the med, and could only find warnings about colitis, which is in a different part of the intestine (the large intestine). Normally, corticosteroids are used to reduce inflammation in the body. Your body makes a natural version of this, cortisol. The main reason I... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue? What's In The Name?
emeraldskies replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some of those aphthous ulcers can blister a bit. I think it's odd that they described it using that symptom rather than what was going on from the intestinal damage. I am fascinated by the Dutch Baroque. They were so brilliant! The first microscope was invented by a Dutchman during that period, and the art-! They were ahead of their time in many ways... -
ARCHIVED Temper, Temper
emeraldskies replied to abqrock's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I used to throw a lot of temper tantrums when I was two. This is how my parents dealt with it--they would make me shut myself in a room until I had gotten it all out of my system. They would ignore me completely, and it's no fun to throw tantrums if no one will listen. Eventually, it would run its course. If it was in public, they would rush me out to... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chip Cookies
emeraldskies replied to greg-gard's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like the Chewy Chocolate Chip cookies from Enjoy Life Foods. They're mini cookies that come in a box and are nice and soft. I also like the ones from Aunt Candice Foods, which have a harder, more "store bought" feel to them. -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Possibility?
emeraldskies replied to Mjohnson73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
These are the things that happened to me when I went undiagnosed for so many years: - I have a bone disease similar to rickets, but it has curved the bones in my entire body. This causes pain during movement, so my muscles have atrophied, and I have constant referred pain throughout my body. I am an artist, yet I can no longer do my craft due to the pain... -
ARCHIVED Coq10 And Nac Supplementation
emeraldskies replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was taking CoQ10 for awhile pre-diagnosis. It helped lessen teeth pain, gum swelling, and plaque by quite a bit. I'm just out of the habit of taking vitamins, or I'd continue to take it. I don't remember what brand I had, but I bet it wasn't gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Help For Low Cholesterol
emeraldskies replied to emeraldskies's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interesting. It sounds like they have extensive training and are highly qualified, especially in one of the main areas I need help with, gait disorders. The electrodiagnostics will be helpful as well. I don't know why I never came across any of this in my schooling. I really appreciate all of the information.
