  1. You can get her stool tested for gluten sensitivity at EnteroLab: Open Original Shared Link. If she has been on the gluten-free diet for too long, she may get a false negative. Others here may be able to tell you how long you can be on the diet and still get a correct diagnosis (I don't know). There is also a genetic test EnteroLab offers that can detect...
  2. Since hypothyroidism can be autoimmune and can also be caused by celiac disease, has anyone had their hypothyroidism disappear while going gluten-free? I am also curious if anyone has gotten hyperthyroidism while taking thyroid hormone for hypothyroidism and going on the diet (from the thyroid gland "healing" or if the antibodies were to something involved...
  3. Stephanie: That's good to know. Fortunately, I never liked Tums because they never helped my reflux (probably because they were just causing more!). I believe my father is at least gluten intolerant if he doesn't have full-blown celiac disease, but he refuses to get tested and eats Tums regularly.
  4. Kathinsearch: It is good to hear from someone who has had a similar experience. I am on a casein-free diet. I'm still having problems getting enough to eat. I am usually too tired to make food or things just sound unappetizing. I only craved the foods that I was allergic to, and now eating isn't much fun. So, I am still quite emaciated and have actually...
  5. Sally and BERNESES: Thank you for your kind words. I have found people here to be very supportive so far. Sally: It seems that many have had problems with doctors. I could get along without one, but I need help with a bone disorder I have, osteomalacia. Most doctors seem to think it is only present in third-world countries because they don't believe...
  6. Thanks to all for the welcome! Tarnalberry, BERNESES, and frenchiemama: Thank you for the tips on dogs. I have been a lifelong dog lover, so your ideas are appreciated. My husband bathed our dogs with Allerpet shampoo, but I still was allergic to them. I was looking at the Mexican Hairless! I definitely think this is the future pet for me, but now...
  7. That is quite a dilemma, ms_sillyak_screwed. I found that Levoxyl bothered me the least of the T4's - I was on Synthroid awhile and developed hives, but I am not lactose intolerant and have a casein allergy instead. Nutri-Meds does make a bovine version of their thyroid extract. I stopped taking it when they had potency issues, but it doesn't look like...
  8. Since I was two years old, I have had ataxia. I have been slamming into everything in my path, stumbling, over- or underreaching, missing altogether, knocking things to the ground, dropping objects, exhibiting a tremor, etc. As a child, I knew I loved science, but I also knew I could never become a neurosurgeon because of my shaky hands. If I take a...
  9. After reading this, I checked out more of Dr. Murray's writings. I like his policy about doing bone mineral density scans on his patients. If we can ever sell our house, I know which doctor I will be attempting to see. Thanks for pointing this out.
  10. I developed acid reflux eight years ago (when I was 19). I had an upper GI and a barium X-ray done, and when doctors couldn't find a clear cause, they called it GERD. Every minute, I was eating Rolaids alternating with cough drops, to relieve the sore throat the reflux caused. The cough drops seemed to cause more reflux, so it was a vicious cycle. Eventually...
  11. I am very angry, impatient, and irritable. I've always had ataxia, and now I have muscle weakness and bone pain, so this doesn't help (when I am trying to get something to do what I want it to, including my own body). My family used to call me their "bundle of delight" when I was a child, but obviously the name no longer applies. I am gluten-free, so maybe...
  12. Yes, I do. I had to give up my life, job, school, interests, and any hope of a career at 22. And from the age of 13 on, my life has been a total nightmare and complete struggle. Things have continued to get worse and not better. I don't even have a doctor right now, so I can't get treatment. The only thing good in my life is my husband, who has been...
  13. If you think the vitamin is safe, try taking some food containing protein or fat with it. This is the only way I can handle them (B vitamins and multivitamin) without discomfort. GNC vitamins list all of the allergens on the back.
  14. Thanks for the tips. I probably was and still am malnourished. I will get my levels retested and will monitor them along the way.
  15. Christy, it seems that we are struggling with a lot of the same issues. I have sent you a reply privately via e-mail. Take care.
  16. Thanks a lot. I will check those out.
  17. Muir Glen Organic ketchup and Hebrew National Beef Franks are supposedly free of gluten and casein. I'm still looking for a safe mayo myself.
  18. Migraines in celiac disease sufferers could be caused by brain calcifications. The calcifications can also cause ataxia, seizures, anxiety, muscle atrophy, difficulty concentrating, and insomnia. A folic acid deficiency can worsen the calcifications. It seems like the damage is usually in the jejunum of the small intestine, rather than in the duodenum...
  19. Armetta, could you tell me the name of your doctor? I still haven't found one who will treat me, and your doctor sounds like he would run the tests that I need.

    ARCHIVED Dentists

It sounds like it could be Dental Fluorosis, a condition caused by ingesting too much fluoride. This can damage permanent teeth (as they are forming), so be careful. Some possible sources of excessive fluoride are tea, swallowing toothpaste, processed cereal, soft drinks, seafood, Teflon pans, drinking excessive amounts of water, or chicken that is deboned...
  21. I have more than three: 1. Low Carb Flour Wraps by Don Pancho - eating these tortillas was like chewing up tasteless cardboard. 2. Plain Bagels from Sterk's - they tasted like flattened, stale crackers. 3. Anything by Ener-G Foods - aspartame causes more intestinal cramps. 4. Any pretzels I've encountered - always sweet rather than salty,...
  22. Does anyone know of any non-dairy (not just lactose-free) gluten-free protein powders or shakes? The Gluten-free Casein-free sports drink I use (which contains more vitamins than Gatorade) is Ultima Replenisher.
  23. Awhile ago, before my hypothyroidism was treated, I was found to have low cholesterol levels (I don't remember the figure, but I have since received proper treatment for the thyroid, so I'm guessing my levels are even lower now). I also have deficient levels of hormones that need cholesterol for synthesis: estradiol, cortisol, pregnenolone, and testosterone...
  24. Over a year ago, I received a positive result from EnteroLab for antigliadin IgA antibodies, transglutaminase IgA antibodies, malabsorption of fats, anti-casein IgA antibodies, and I also had the HLA-DQ2 allele for celiac disease. This was after years of many problems, including 30 episodes of diarrhea a day (even with Imodium). I found my doctor completely...
