ARCHIVED Jelly Doughnut Anyone?
saaa-wheat<3 replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
hey, lpellegr, just think of the extra protein you could have been getting! Hey, and great avatar by the way! (must.....do....nice....things....for Stimpy!) yes, we R&S fans have that sort of sick sense of humor, lol... I hope you enjoy this treat as much as I do! -
ARCHIVED Jelly Doughnut Anyone?
saaa-wheat<3 replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You betcha Mammagoose on the poptart comment Tinkerbell, you can use any kind of honey, even fresh honey, I suppose...I just prefer raw honey that is crystallized, it's sweeter and adds that perfect texture to the outside of the doughnut. It's as close to "honey-dipped" as one gets, because it's the real thing! -
Oh how I miss the jelly-filled doughnut! I was obsessing over the fact one day, when I was eating a toasted Trader Joe's Gluten Free French Roll with jelly. It tasted ALMOST like a raise jelly doughnut, because these have yeast in them, so I decided to fool around with it a bit to see what I could come up with, and came up with something pretty good...

ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free On A Small Budget
saaa-wheat<3 replied to SarahTorg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sarah, I sometimes get Ian's gluten free chicken nuggets or fish sticks located in the freezer section. expensive, but sometimes the trade off is worth it if you are on a time budget. Again, I try to find most of my stuff at the discount food stores, and will freeze what I might not use before it is out of date. I was actually lucky to find on super... -

Sorry, haven't forgotten about this post, i've just not been online for some time... Thanks for the cashew milk recipe, I'll have to check it out! I prefer drinking tequila Love Margaritas, but can't trust the mixes they use. I have run into a similar problem, last time I went out, I thought it would be safer to drink it with some 7UP and extra... -
ARCHIVED Cheese Whiz And Cream Of Mushroom Soup
saaa-wheat<3 replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've used Pacific Brand's Portabella Mushroom soup in a similar recipe and it worked really well. I do believe that I might have thickened a bit with some cornstarch, as it is not condensed. Perhaps using the Velveeta will make it a bit thicker than if you used the Cheese Wiz and with that you may not have to thicken it? Good luck, and Happy Thanksgiving... -

emc- how do you make your own cashew milk?? trying to ease off the dairy so i hopefully don't create an intolerance to that, that would be even more difficult for me than giving up gluten has been! i hear ya on the baking flours. i've finally perfected my baking mix, which include at least 4-5 different types of flour not to mention the xanthan... -

OMG Amber, right with you there on those kind of doughnuts, right down to the raspberry filling, my favorite!!! i think that's at the very top 10 of my list of things i miss, since there is no way to make a gluten-free recipe for THAT!!! I think that's god's way of punishing me for saying to a celiac boss once ten years before i was gluten-free that i didn... -

Hi Mariann, I like the "shock factor" i get when i eat a gluten-free goodie i've contributed. I do it more to see who's paying attention ....as for hubby, he still loves my gluten-free baked goods (lol, he's admitted, it's not ALL "goodness free" ) and will eat dinners as well. still training on the double dip thing, better with jars of stuff like... -

OMGLMAO!!! this is great medicine, especially after being sick from being glutened so often lately... ....if you spend all morning long looking at this thread while at work in between trying to do or blowing off what you should be doing ....if you have made it a point to search out the store manager in a regular food chain to personally thank them... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free On A Small Budget

Be careful of the smaller sized candy bars, there are many of them which contain gluten while the larger ones will be gluten-free! Admittedly, eating gluten-free is VERY expensive! I try to defray the costs by shopping at my local discount food store which has discontinued, scratch and dent, or slightly out of date stuff from other stores. it's hit or... -

I make a dish (since i am known for dessert, that is usually what i bring) that's been tested approved on my hubby-and don't tell them it's gluten-free until they go, "mmmm"! Being that I've been glutened one too many times eating out of home, I have decided it's either bring my own entree or have everyone at my house so i can monitor what goes into the makings... -

ARCHIVED Will Being Glutened Affect A Medication From Assimilating?
saaa-wheat<3 replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, Jackie, for sharing your experience. I've learned that lots of us celiacs have to rely on personal experiences because so little is known. I had suspected that the one time that my numbers were almost too low compared to my other blood tests was due to the fact that at that particular time I was being most anal about eating gluten free and not taking... -
ARCHIVED Help! Confused By Results

Does this mean that one does not have to eat gluten in order to have the enterolag test come back positive? How is this test performed and how much is it to have it done? Also, if one is tested for an IgA response, does one need to eat gluten in order for that test to be positive as well? I went to an allergist last year out of frustration and was tested... -
ARCHIVED Will Being Glutened Affect A Medication From Assimilating?
saaa-wheat<3 replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I actually work for a dentist and he looked up the Synthroid in the PDR for me here to see how it is metabolized, which is through the jejunum and upper ileum, as well as through the liver, so it totally makes sense to me (and to the pharmacist with whom I also spoke with) that having a gluten reaction would affect assimilation. Whether I have diarrhea or... -

I do remember asking my endocrinologist something to the effect of why one time even though my dosage was increased that my numbers appeared to be the same as when I was diagnosed and within the "normal range" even though it was clear that I was having thyroid (very ill and goiter) and even though she wants it to be lower, and she said the same thing about... -

Sorry to those who have children and have to deal with the family, I don't know what I would do, I'd be soooo mad...It's difficult enough taking a stand for yourself. My FIL pretends to "forget" each time and asks if I want something with gluten in it EVERY time we are at dinner there "oh, you can't have it? a little bit won't hurt you", my MIL tries, but... -

Is there any evidence which supports that I really ought to throw away all my favorite ones? I definitely use a separate strainer...stuff gets caught in all those holes.
