  1. Wow. I understand, although I never lost that much weight. I started getting scared when I hit a size 4. When I started learning more about what I could eat that is gluten-free I started gaining and now I'm a 14! Maybe I screwed up my metabolism. Ironically I started gaining weight when I cut out dairy.....and I started eating things with soymilk (Soy...
  2. Oooooh! Wow, thanks guys. Despite how it looks, I never feel I have enough recipes. I'm going on vacation in Mount Tremblant next week (I like to rent ski condos because then I have a full kitchen) and I definitely want to try the flourless chocolate date cake!!! It's my husband's 50th birthday and I lost his favourite Rebecca Reilly recipe for Black...
  3. I love some salad bars because of their variety. I stick to the oil and vinegar dressing, assuming that's the safest, however, I am sometimes tempted to slather ranch all over it! When I check out different web-sites, like www.kraft.com they list their ranch as safe, but not the caesar (not sure why!). I would love to find a little leak-proof bottle so...
  4. Yeah! gluten-free Cheesecake! There is no crust. They pour the batter into cupcake papers. They have lemon zest, lemon with a strawberry swirl and chocolate. Make sure you don't see them on the same tray as something else....ask for it. It's getting common to see it in Toronto, but maybe not every city is carrying it. Of course I used to avert my eyes...
  5. Woohoo! They just started offering gluten-free cheescakes in Toronto at Starbucks. I love the lemon zest one but they also have chocolate and they even label it gluten-free. My local Starbucks says they run out so fast that they'll keep one for me in their freezer just in case.
  6. I just learned about Heinz 57 too through their website. (They're terribly proud of their gluten-free status!) I was buying Muir Glen before (with apple cider vinegar) and I love that one but it's very expensive.
  7. I heard meat especially chicken and turkey is injected sometimes with HVP Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, which is sometimes wheat based. Does anyone know anything more about that? Or if someone is going to Walmart, it might be something to ask.
  8. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Am printing this now. Sandra in TO

Mushroom Lentil Burgers 1 tsp vegetable oil 1 onion, finely chopped 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms ½ tsp dried thyme 1 can 19 oz/540 ml lentils, drained and rinsed 3 tblsps potato flour 3 tblsps freshly grated parmesan cheese 2 tblsps chopped pine nuts ¼ tsp pepper In nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat. 10. Found some more! Citrus Clouds (Microwave) (4 servings) 1 ½ cups orange juice 1 tblsp lemon juice 2 tblsps cornstarch 2 tblsps honey 1 cinnamon stick 2 egg whites ¼ tsp cream of tartar (this is gluten-free, no worries) 3 tblsps sugar 1 tsp grated lemon rind Combine orange & lemon juice, cornstarch, honey & cinnamon. ...
  11. I will add my finds here from time to time. Please feel free to rate these recipes or add your own... I never have enough! Parmesan Crisps Combine finely shredded parmesan and sliced almonds in equal amounts. Place heaps of mixture on non-stick baking sheet, leaving room for expansion. Flatten each heap. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 5 minutes...
  12. OHMYGOD I hate that!!!!! Especially at work! Especially since I can't have kids!!! Am trying not to bite people's heads off though. I need a nice, friendly, response to that...any ideas?
  13. Really? Every time I tried describing it as an allergy they were afraid they'd kill me and closed up. If I tell them it's a digestive disorder they were less afraid and more willing to help. Has anyone out there got tips on carrying food in the backpack or purse? i.e. spill proof bottles for gluten-free soy sauce or salad dressing? Also, just...
  14. Thank you! I would appreciate it, especially if they freeze. I will forward you the cornstarch bread recipe so you can try it once atleast and see if it does the trick. It's my favorite PB & J recipe. Sandra
  15. Oh wow. I've been there. How long will you be there? I would call the hotel and tell the chef. Also, try to get a microwave in your room. You can do the cold cereal / milk for breakfast or I can send you my microwave breakfast polenta recipe. Alternatively you can do the omelette in a clean pan request at the restaurant. Hmm......lunches. The salad...
  16. Does anyone know if these products are available in Canada? I know Carl Buddig is, but what I'd really LOVE, is a pepperoni or salami that's gluten-free? Any ideas? I have Loblaws, IGA, Dominion, Sobey's... Sandra
  17. I always get a terrible burning in my chest after drinking apple juice and even if I drink apple cider too quickly. But no reaction at all if I drink Strongbow Hard Cider thankfully ! Sandra in Toronto
  18. Hi all. I wonder if we could keep this string for inquiries re: lost recipes? Doesn't that drive you crazy when you've lost one? I know one of us would have a copy! Right now, the one I lost is Black Forest Cake out of Rebecca Reilly's "Gluten Free Baking." I photocopied it from a library book and someone checked it out so I can't get it back...
  19. Hi guys! I just discovered this and had to send you the link. There is everything here from white bread to microwaved tapioca pudding! Anyone who tries these, please add your comments so we can learn which ones are winners! Open Original Shared Link Sandra in Toronto
  20. If anyone is visiting Toronto, The Boardwalk Cafe, indicates all gluten-free items right on their menu! They substitute garlic mashed potatoes for the fries too. They have a beautiful patio right on Ashbridges Bay under giant maple trees. It's also fun inside when it's snowing under the twinkle lights. The address is: 1681 Lake Shore Blvd. E. Toronto...
  21. Luckily my husband cooks. He even claims to enjoy it (should I believe him?) I plan to post some of his recipes tomorrow. Am not sure where in this message board I should do that. I'm new to this. What we are missing though is a recipe for decent bread! Sandra
  22. Oh, hey, this is a tough one. I find I can't make anything as good as my local bakery makes and they won't give me the recipe! But have you tried the cornstarch bread in the Bette Hagman book? It's good for one day....very soft and "wonder bread" like. And it can be made with a regular hand mixer from easy to find ingredients. After the first day though...
  23. I get a room with a microwave and make polenta then put a dollop of butter on top and pour on a little maple syrup. Yum! Sandra in Toronto.
  24. Oh yeah, I used to have Quinoa for breakfast. It really freaked me out the first time I cooked it because it has that little white "ring" in it which struck me as looking kinda worm-like. But it's really good! You have to rinse it well before you cook it I think to take the bitterness out. I used to put date butter or date syrup on it. You know I wish...
  25. What do I take? A bath....that doesn't help as you're in meetings. A friend with irritable bowel syndrome told me her doctor recommends eating slightly undercooked rice because it will absorb the remaining liquid in her gut. Worth a try I guess! Hope you feel better soon......I always want sushi when I'm sick. Maybe it's all the rice? Doesn't really...
