  1. His rash looks like eczema, and not really like the pictures I've seen of DH. The ped said he thinks it's mostly likely psoriasis, since it's on the outside of his knees and elbows. It doesn't have any raised bumps at all.....it's just red, itchy skin with some white spots. Does dh start out looking like eczema at first and progressively get worse? Maybe...
  2. I was wondering if anyone here also gets frequent mouth ulcers? My 6 year old has been getting these quite frequently lately, and they are very painful for him. The only other questionable thing he has is a persistant rash on both of his knees and elbows. Doctors have been telling me the rash is eczema or psoriasis, but it's odd how the rash is symmetrical...
  3. I have to second the recommendation for Kinnikinnick. When we can afford to splurge a little, and I'm just talking around $50 or so.......that's what I buy. I'll buy a loaf of bread (Tapioca Rice Bread is good), the chocolate donuts, and the frozen pizza shells. We use the bread conservatively, and the donuts and mini pizzas can be halved for a child's...
  4. I can totally relate to the financial strain. I decided to stay home with my kids shortly after my dd was diagnosed. She kept getting sick at the babysitters, and I really felt like I just needed to stay home for a bit and get her well. We really needed my income, and poor dh took on a second job to compensate for the loss! He's beat. I am going back...
  5. If you have a positive test, I would definately get your kids checked also. I think 3+ stools a day for a baby is too many, and warrants further testing. I have a 3 year old celiac daughter, and I have two other children who have some symptoms, but not all the classic signs. My 18 month old has several stools a day also, and can't tolerate any dairy. ...
  6. Nevermind Claire (love the name btw, it's my dd middle name), I read more about it in the other posts about ataxia. Very interesting stuff, thanks. Seems as if my dd has something different from that....but I have no doubt gluten halted/altered her brain development. Ugh, who would have thought that the touted "required" and "healthy" grain could wreak...
  7. Okay, I feel like such a baking idiot......but my Chebe bread (red bag) did NOT turn out right! It was hard on the outside, but gooey on the inside. I didn't do breadsticks, I just rolled them into little balls, but even the smallest ones weren't done on the inside. I added more cheese than called for, so I also added more water. Do you think I added...
  8. Claire......could you elaborate a bit on gluten induced neurological damage? I'm really interested in this, since my 3 1/2 year old daughter seems to have some neuro problems as well. She is significantly behind (18mos delay), but there seems to be something else going on too. It's as if her brain processes things differently. I'm not entirely confident...
  9. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the testing. You obviously feel better on the diet and you know you have a problem with gluten. I am in a similar situation....my daughter has celiac disease, and I went on the diet with her just to see how I felt. I found out that I felt amazingly better on the diet. So many things improved that I never even realized...
  10. It's great that your family took your advice to heart and got tested. You really did them all such a huge favor, if they don't realize it now, they will. I wish my family would be as receptive to the idea. My brother, who is 27 and has always been sick as a dog, isn't very keen on getting tested or going gluten free. He said he tried the diet, but it...
  11. I have to second that cookie recipe you listed.......this is my FAV cookie recipe. I can whip up a batch in no time flat, and they are impossible to mess up (which is important for non bakers like me!). I also used regular sugar instead. These are also cheaper to make than buying a mix, which is always a plus!
