ARCHIVED Vomiting And Celiac
taweavmo3 replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gosh, that does sound odd. All I have is my daughter's reactions to go by, but here's how it works for her usually. With the initial gluten accident, she will have vomitting and D. But that's usually only for the first day or 2, then it starts w/the moodiness etc. We have had it happen where she's had two gluten accidents close together, but only the... -
ARCHIVED Babies With Celiac: At Risk For Autism?
taweavmo3 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Funny you mentioned that immunologists said the vaccines could be a trigger. I have always thought of that as a possible trigger for my child. I posed this question on another forum one time and got completely flamed for even thinking it. I guess I should have expected it since vaccines are such a hot topic, but it took me by surprise a bit. It seems... -
ARCHIVED Babies With Celiac: At Risk For Autism?
taweavmo3 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've read the book by Karen Sourrisi, it was GREAT! I love that book. I have no doubt that my daughter would have been diagnosed with autism had we not found celiac first. I still wonder, b/c she is delayed by 18-24 months. She still has problems learning new things, like colors. Her brain just seems to process things differently, and I'm waiting on... -
ARCHIVED Background Heritage Question
taweavmo3 replied to CMCM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Part Irish from my mother's side, and Greek from my father's side. I'm not sure where the celiac genes came from.....my mom's entire family has intestinal issues, but my father's family on the maternal side all had stunted growth and late maturity. His mother was only 4'10. So maybe both, who knows. I would love to have them all gene tested, but I don... -
ARCHIVED Met W/the Pediatric Gi Yesterday
taweavmo3 replied to celiacsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just wanted to second that about the Authentic gluten-free Flour blend....I used in one of my old cobbler recipes, and just added 1/4 teaspoon xanthum gum. My family said it actually tasted better than the original. This was the 1st time we'd had cobbler in over a year, so it was truly a celebration! The flour blend is pricey, but I don't see it as being... -
Hi all! I'm 20 weeks preggo right now, with baby #4. I haven't been diagnosed with celiac, but my daughter has it. I went gluten free for a while to see how I felt, and I felt much better. I stupidly ate regular pasta, and had a major reaction, and have stayed gluten free since. So, I haven't messed with testing at all. I have no actual paper proof...

ARCHIVED No Solids Yet
taweavmo3 replied to KayJay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have a gorgeous baby girl! I started my kids on solids around 6 months, but it was always a slow process. With my last baby, I was in no rush to start solids and he went straight to regular food (mashed) around 7 months. He detested the jar baby food, and wouldn't touch it. I wouln't worry too much, I'm sure she'll take right to it. I really don... -
ARCHIVED Met W/the Pediatric Gi Yesterday
taweavmo3 replied to celiacsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think we all remember too well what you are going through right now. Just ask my dh about the several meltdowns I had in the beginning. It got to where he'd have a bottle of wine ready for me if he knew I was trying a new recipe! I was making things really hard in the beginning....trying to make everything from scratch, buying all the cookbooks, etc... -
Honestly, it sounds to me like you have an answer. Babies that age should not be anemic if they are absorbing at least half the nutrients from the food that they take in. I don't know WHY doctors think going gluten free and being "labeled" celiac is such a huge ordeal. Once you get used to it, it is really easy. Yes it changes their childhood a bit, but...

ARCHIVED What To Think If Sister's Kids Pediatrician....
taweavmo3 replied to floridanative's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's just crazy and ridiculous. Remind him that in Italy every kid from the age of 6 on up is screened routinely, symptoms or not, family history or not. Celiac can jump around in familes, it does not have to come from a first degree relative. My brother and my daughter are the only ones who have tested positive in our family. That ped really doesn... -
ARCHIVED New Here... Just Saying Hello
taweavmo3 replied to Sagesmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there! Welcome to the board, this has been my lifeline and saving grace for the past year. The diet is so completely overwhleming at first, and you will probably have a few meltdowns, but in time it becomes second nature. There are SO many well seasoned celiacs on this site, that you can get answers to nearly every question you have. I feel like... -
ARCHIVED A Class Action Suit Against Mcds...
taweavmo3 replied to Cheri A's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This is ridiculous. I could have a similar case...say my daughter has suffered from possible long term neurological delays due to unknown glutening from McD's fries. Yes, I'm miffed at McDonalds for not owning up to the gluten in the first place, then letting the public make a more informed choice. But I knew it was always risky eating out, and I shouldn... -
ARCHIVED Lay's Cant Get There Story Streight About Gluten In Stax Chips.
taweavmo3 replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope, hope, hope this is not b/c of the new labeling laws. If this is just the beginning of something larger to come, it will be like starting this whole diet over again. I finally have down what mainstream products I can buy. UGH! This law is supposed to help us, not make companies scared to claim anything is gluten free anymore. Yikes, I hope this... -
ARCHIVED Just A Little Frustrated With My Son
taweavmo3 replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. That is one of the reasons I am so thankful we found out about celiac so early on in my child's life......she will never know anything other than gluten free. I do have a 28 year old brother who sounds identical to your son though. He's been sick his entire life, he has practically every celiac symptom... -
ARCHIVED Update On My Little Girl...
taweavmo3 replied to Kassidy's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's great news! We are coming up on our one year anniversary of putting my daughter on the diet (I feel like throwing a party) and the changes are still coming. Her personality is really blossoming lately, and she keeps growing, and growing. Just when I think she can't change any more, she does. You will be amazed at what the next few months will... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
taweavmo3 replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, $hit. This really sucks.......Nini, I'm right there with ya nearly in tears. And I'm pissed. McD's has been a treat for my kids, in fact, Emmie has had their fries twice this past week. I know it's complete garbage, but it's the one "normal" fast food thing that she can eat like the other kids. Of course, if they have contained gluten this whole... -
ARCHIVED First Trip To The Dentist
taweavmo3 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So far, we haven't had any problems. At Emmie's appt. the receptionist was able to call and get an ingredient list faxed over and verified that everything they were using at the time was gluten free. I got lucky in that our dentist knew exactly what celiac was, b/c for a while he thougth his son had it. I haven't found a toothpaste with gluten yet either... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Get My Son's Lab Results And Copies Of Biopsy Results?
taweavmo3 replied to e&j0304's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How's Jack doing? I'm assuming the biopsy came back negative too? You must be so frustrated at this point. I was hoping you'd get some sort of answer with all the testing. Keep us posted on your little guy! -
I saw it too! I heard Robin say "the hidden medical reason women might feel bloated" (or something similar) and was hoping it was about celiac. I sat glued to the tv for 45 minutes waiting, and wouldn't you know it, the second I take a break to go to the bathroom, that's when it comes on! I caught most of it though, and it seemed pretty good. I always...

ARCHIVED Ever Had A Baby That Couldn't Tolerate
taweavmo3 replied to KayJay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are some good pumps out there....the Medela Pump In Style is good, but my suggestion would be to contact a lactation consultant asap, and you can rent a hospital grade pump (the cadillac of breast pumps) for $50 a month. I have used a lactation consultant with each one of my kids, and can't say enough about them. There is also a med your ob can prescribe... -
ARCHIVED Any Thoughts?
taweavmo3 replied to Becky6's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First I would double check everything she eats, bathes with and plays with. I've had to do this several times just to help me eliminate the source of problems. I've even re-called companies to double check, re-check my lists, etc. If everything checks out okay, then my guess would be that she is still healing. Emmie's stools took a while before they... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Contamination, Scratching, And Dev. Delay
taweavmo3 replied to elfkin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Celiac can most definately cause a speech delay in children. The good news for you is that your son tested above age level in everything else, and he will probably make great strides with the help of speech therapy. I really wouldn't worry about him being labeled at this point.....take any and all help that is offered. Once he catches up, he'll test out... -
ARCHIVED We're Back...getting Celiac Panel And Biopsy
taweavmo3 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Shannon....just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you guys, and hope that you get some answers soon with little Jack. Maybe, best case (still bad though) scenario....it could just be a bug??? Ben had Rotavirus when he was 10 months old, and his diarrhea at one point was pure water. He also dropped weight incredibly quickly, and had projectile... -
ARCHIVED Good Kids Chicken Fingers
taweavmo3 replied to emsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Funny, my Ems also said the Dinos were too spicey! I thought they were delicious though, and my other two, non celiac kids, ate 'em up. I'll have to try that recipe.....I would love to serve nuggets again for lunch, we are getting a little tired of hot dogs or mac n cheese over here. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Biopsy
taweavmo3 replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Regarding the inflammation, my daughter had that as well. So, I would definately say that could be a sign of celiac. Now, in terms of the diet.......I have a few ideas for ya! If you don't have a big selection at your Whole Foods, you may have to do some buying online. I've been extremely lucky in that I have a great selection at stores around me, so...
