  1. I too would be very leary of a school nutritionist providing your daughter's food. Emmie just started pre-k this year, and she brings her own lunch and snack. I provided the class with gluten-free play-dough, which is pricey, but worth every penny in my opinion. We ordered it from Discount School Supply, it was $25 for 5lbs I believe. The teachers were...
  2. I know it's a sad realization to come to terms with, but it will get so much easier with time. I have three gluten free kids, and Lucy (same age as your Aiden!) will be gluten-free too. I've had some self pity moments, especially when I'm tired and really miss the days of just ordering a pizza for everyone! But what picks me back up again is knowing that...
  3. Matilda....your post made me laugh. Alot of our neighbors don't have children, and I joke with dh that our kids probably scare them away from even trying! It seems like screams of some sort, whether in play or tantrums, are always coming from our house. I'm sure they wonder what the heck is going on. You know though, as trying a time as we have had...
  4. Thanks everyone, you all had great ideas as usual! We had a horrible day yesterday, so I'm going to call the ped again today and see if we can up her meds to 15mg a day. I had to hold her upright for 5 hours last night, and dh was not here to help. She wouldn't go in the swing, the bouncy seat, or the baby carrier. I am so beat today! As soon as I would...
  5. I know this isn't totally about celiac, but I know alot of you have had reflux babies. So I'm hoping to get some help! Right now Lucy has been on reflux meds since she was two weeks old (born 7/18/06). We are now on Prevacid, which has helped some. I am breastfeeding, and I am gluten free and dairy free, but not casein free. I have tried giving her...
  6. I like to make a little trail mix for a snack, it's been a hit so far. I put in Glutino pretzels, craisins, marshmallows and sometimes a few chocolate chips. It's not totally healthy, but I figure it's about the same as the usual gluten filled preschool fare! Sunmaid also has little boxes of yogurt covered raisins....those make great snacks, and you...
  7. Just some random thoughts here...but I have some ideas for ya. You might try her off of the soy milk, I didn't see major changes in my dd until I did this. She used to drink a ton of soy milk, but it seemed to effect her just like gluten. Also, regarding the high fever.......could she have possibly been glutened? My dd sometimes run a fever w/a glutening...
  8. Thanks for posting this! I need something for my daughter to wear that reminds people NOT to feed her! We tried going to church again today, and I had a bad feeling when I left her in the classroom. I could tell that the lady did not get what I was saying, but thought maybe I was just being paranoid. Sure enough, when I go to pick her up, the lady says...
  9. Ditto on the KinniToos here too!!!! We all absolutely loved them here, my husband thought they were actual Oreos. I haven't tried the vanilla, but the chocolate "oreos" were a huge hit at our house. The only problem is that they fly out of the pantry, so they are a rare treat here and I have to hide them!
  10. I saw that today too, and was frustrated right along with you. They were giving him such a hard time, and would not let the poor man speak. I was hoping more would be said about the gluten issue, but Elizabeth H. seemed to change the subject pretty quickly after that came up. Don't know what the deal is there....but it was really aggravating to watch.
  11. Congratulations!!!! That's so wonderful to hear, and I'm glad you are enjoying your new little blue bundle! Only 5 weeks left for me until baby #4, Lucy Kate, arrives........then we are finished, lol!!!!!
  12. I have never heard about it taking five days to heal either. Our GI just said that since it took our daughter two or more years to get as sick as she did, we should expect a long healing process as well. It has taken alot of time. We saw improvement in the beginning, but it took at least 6 months before she could tolerate dairy again w/out having loose...
  13. You guys are going to get so tired of me asking questions! Emmie has had white stools the past couple of days, but otherwise she seems perfectly fine. She is usually pretty sensitive, and reacts strongly with vomiting, irritability and fever with a gluten accident. So these white stools, which are normal in consistancy, are throwing me for a loop. I...
  14. Feel free to rant here all you want, this is definately a good place to do it! Cutting out all of those things at once would be too much for me to handle honestly. Do you have a plan, such as following a rotation diet and then bringing back in one food at a time to test for a reaction? If you at least had a set time limit that you knew you had to cut...
  15. I'm wondering the same thing myself, it is all very confusing. I have three children so far who all have a problem with gluten, and I'm 8 months pregnant. I only have one daughter who tested positive at age 3, the other two tested neg. but had symptoms which have improved on the diet. Looking back at their infancies, they all had issues. They always seemed...
  16. I have found gluten free boxes of Trix...but it's very hit and miss and they are mixed in with the older formula boxes, so I just have to sift through them. It's easier now that I know where the wheat starch is listed on the ingredient list, it's always near the bottom. Hope everyone can find them soon! It's really nice to have some mainstream cereal again...

ARCHIVED 1 Yr Follow Up Visit

First of all......I think the growth is very good. My dd grew four inches in a year, and gained 10 pounds. She is still only in the 5th percentile for height, but at least she's on the charts now! She continues to have growth spurts though, her foot grew a whole size in less than four weeks. Second, forget what that doctor told you and try to not...
  18. We keep a gluten free house now......it makes life easier for me. I've tried it both ways, and having a combined house with little kids was really frustrating. My older one would get a regular snack, then Emmie (my celiac) would throw a fit wanting the same thing. Then I had to ask my older one to wash his hands before he touched anything, wipe the counter...
  19. Just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice. This is the one place where I don't feel like I'm a neurotic mother, lol. I will take her in to have her checked, now that I know it can get serious so quickly. Funny, last year when we got our celiac diagnosis, I thought that would be the end of our problems! Now it seems like we do great for a few...
  20. My daughter has been having some new issues lately, and I have no clue what could be causing them. I took her off dairy, which did help with her tantrums. But now, she's been having potty accidents. She's been potty trained for nearly a year now, and never used to have accidents. Before 10am the other day, after a small cup of juice, she went to the...
  21. I am so sorry your husband isn't more supportive of this.......it sounds like you are on the right track with thinking this is celiac. Especially since there is a family history of it. I don't have much advice for you on how to get your husband to come around, but you need to stick to your guns for your children's sake. Hopefully once he sees how much...
  22. That's excellent! And it sounds like you have a gem of a doctor to boot....how awesome. I hope she continues to thrive and gain, it is really a miracle to watch. I feel like we didn't even get to know our daughter until we put her on the diet, and her little personality is still blossoming. Keep up the good work!
  23. All my kiddos, and hubby, love Tinkyada. It's the best we've tried so far....the only brand we haven't tried is the expensive Italian one, that I can't remember the name of. As far as sauces, we use Ragu, or the Walmart brand. Both have gluten free sauces. From what I have found, most sauces are gluten free, but I always call to double check. The great...
  24. Just wanted to add that Lipton Onion soup mix always gives me gastro upset too. I used to be fine with it until I went gluten free (about 3-4 months now). Just a thought! Hope you feel better soon.
  25. Oh yeah......we used to get comments all the time about how little Emmie was. When she was 3 years old, she was 20lbs and was also wearing size 12-18mo clothing. But, I am small myself, so the doctors thought it was just genetics. With you being so tall, that should be a huge red flag. Your post sounds very similar, I would definately get her tested...
