ARCHIVED Omg! She Did It!
taweavmo3 replied to Becky6's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Congratulations!!!!!!!! I know how exciting that is....my little girl was slow to potty train too. She's only been fully trained for a couple of months, and she's nearly four too. It was SO nice to get her out of diapers finally, I thought that day would never come! -
ARCHIVED Son's Enterolab Tests Came Back Negative
taweavmo3 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hope you can get the diarrhea to stop soon.....I'm sure you'll figure out what the culprit is. We've had great success with taking Ben off of soy milk, he has completely normal bm's now. His mood has improved, as well as his speech . I'm one happy momma! The weird thing is, now that we took him off soy, he has been tolerating small amounts of dairy... -
ARCHIVED Fever
taweavmo3 replied to katerinvon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, my little girl gets a high fever with gluten exposure. It has gone as high as 104, which would make me think it was a bug, except that I knew for certain she had a gluten accident. She's had 3-4 accidents in the past nine months, and got a fever with each one. It lasts about 2 days or so. The fever doesn't start right away though....she has vomiting... -
I don't know if there's a link or not, but my six year old has psoriasis, and has had it for two years now. He has it on both knees, and it is coming back on his elbows. Sunlight seems to really help clear his skin. This past summer, I was expecting the chlorine to really irritate it, but the psoriasis completely cleared up by the end of the summer! It...

taweavmo3 replied to caitrynsmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can not stress this enough....please, please, please don't put her back on gluten right now! I'm not trying to sound like an alarmist or anything, but if she is already behind in her language skills and motor skills, I would bet you anything it is because of the gluten. And it will only get worse the longer she is on it. The reason I am so adamant about... -
ARCHIVED Kids Getting Glutened Need Advice.....
taweavmo3 replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have dealt with this problem in the past too. Although, the issues were with my own parents, so I found it easier to talk to them about it. If it were my in-laws, I would have dh do it.....my MIL can be a beast! I know it is hard to not hurt feelings, when they think they are doing all the right things. I have heard my own dad say "well surely, a... -
I hear ya....we had alot of family over our house for Christmas, and it seemed like everyone was determined to feed my celiac daughter. I think they are just trying to show they care, but it seems like ever since her diagnosis, everyone wants to cook for her all of the sudden. I always tell them I will bring her food, and they can cook whatever they want...

ARCHIVED Self-diagnosis Of Celiac Disease In Young Son
taweavmo3 replied to T-Beth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I figured out what was wrong on my own too. Doctors kept telling me she was fine, she was just going to be small like me. She was 3 years old and 20 lbs, less than what she weighed at 12 months old. All I had to do was google her symptoms, and celiac came up right away. After that, I told the ped we were going to a GI doc. The GI doc took one look at... -
ARCHIVED Still Reacting After Saturday Night....
taweavmo3 replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, sadly that sounds completely normal for a celiac reaction. For my daughter, the longer she was gluten free, the stronger her reaction became. Now I would say it takes her a good solid month to completely get back to normal, and two weeks for the physical reactions to subside. Wish I had video of her moaning in pain to show all the family members who... -
ARCHIVED Out Of Shape Kids...
taweavmo3 replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Talk about cutting back to stay home......when Emmie was really sick, I felt a real need to stay home with her. We cut off cable, changed to dial up internet, cut back to one car, I quit getting my hair done, and dh gives the boys their cuts (saves $30 a month!). It was hard, and my mom doesn't see how I survive w/out cable, lol, but we are used to it now... -
ARCHIVED Allergist Vs. Biopsy
taweavmo3 replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One thing you could try immediately, while you decide on what to do for the big picture, is to cut out the soymilk. My toddler has an allergy to dairy, and I never knew that 50% of dairy allergic kids also have problems with soy. I learned that little nugget here, thankfully. I quit giving Ben his soy, and his yeast infections cleared up quickly. Now... -

taweavmo3 replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ya gotta love those growth spurts after you've been waiting SO long for one! My little girl gained 14 pounds in 8 months, and grew four inches. Her feet even grew two sizes, she is outgrowing her clothes quicker than I can buy them. We went to a little birthday party last week, and someone actually made a crack about how chubby Emmie was. Kind of teed... -
ARCHIVED He Got Gluten...
taweavmo3 replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cherie, just curious what kind of cereal bars you are talking about? Usually, from my experience, anything that is actually labeled "gluten free" should NOT contain wheat, rye, barley or oats. However, something that just says "wheat free" can most certainly still contain rye, barley or oats. So far, my daughter hasn't been glutened with a food item that... -
ARCHIVED ~~~oreos~~~ At Last, There Is A Substitute~~~~
taweavmo3 replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, I'm so happy!!! I tried the Midel oreo-like cookies, and I didn't like them at all. Thought they had a funky aftertaste. I have been craving junk food like mad (guess it's from eating so well the past few months) and I couldn't stop thinking how much I miss Oreo's. I'll have to get some ASAP, thanks! -
I don't know anything about a link between being celiac and having an autistic child.....but I think there is a definate link between autistic symptoms and celiac (for some, not all celiac kids). I still worry about my little girl, some of her behaviors still seem off to me. She doesn't understand things that are not logical, or tangible. When she started...

ARCHIVED Omg Omg Omg!
taweavmo3 replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh yeah, we all TOTALLY get how excited you must be! I'm so glad you are already seeing results...that makes any challenges you face completely worth it! What's funny, is that I'm so used to talking about BM's, I forget sometimes that others are still quite embarrassed to talk about it. So, I'll be spouting off about Ben's diarrhea, or whatever........ -
ARCHIVED Still Reacting To An Exposure From Last Wed?
taweavmo3 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hope she feels better soon! Gluten accidents are the worst........Emmie takes forever before she's back to normal. She doesn't even get so much as a cold, ever, but an accident makes her sick for weeks. Her minimum recoup time is two weeks, but the fatigue usually lasts for longer than that. And she also gets a fever with gluten ingestion, usually a high... -
ARCHIVED Opinions Please
taweavmo3 replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hope you find your answers soon.....and I would definately try the diet after his scope, whatever the results are. Three years old is not too young for significant damage, my daughter had total blunting of the villi, and her small intestine was inflamed. So, it does happen. I think your son is at a very good age to start the diet, he won't remember what... -
ARCHIVED Anyone's Child Have Sandy Or Grainy Stools?
taweavmo3 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's exactly what whole milk does to Ben....his bottom gets blistery red and painful. I went ahead and had him tested for celiac about three weeks ago, since my parents had been feeding him gluten anyway (so much for my gluten free plan eh?). I haven't heard back yet, I'm assuming they were negative, but I'll check soon. Anyway, he was drinking soy... -
ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice
taweavmo3 replied to Slamey24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So glad you have your little Superman back! I think the most fascinating part of the whole process for us, was watching Emmie blossom into the little girl she should have been two years before her diagnosis. We didn't realize how sick she really was, until she started getting better. I think we had just gotten used to the way things were, not realizing... -
ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice
taweavmo3 replied to Slamey24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to agree with you about the hospital worker making fun of your son...that was incredibly rude and insensitive. I work with sick kids, and I can't ever imagine doing anything like that. There are alot of stupid people in this world though, who don't think before they speak. I've run into similar situations with my daughter, adults say all sorts... -

taweavmo3 replied to lonewolf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I really feel for you, that's a tough situation. Have you been dx'd with celiac, or gluten intolerance? I would approach the pediatrician with the fact that there is a family history of this, and the current literature states that all 1st degree relatives need to be tested. Bring some paperwork in if you have to...and if the doc sees how prepared you are... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Celiac Disease?
taweavmo3 replied to Becky6's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Definately seems like it could be celiac disease, she sounds just like my little girl. She is nearly four, and potty trained within three months of going on the diet. It took up until just recently to get her completely trained, but it's finally done! It was impossible to train her while she was still sick. There is also the chance of a speech or developmental... -
Well for me, it was my husband's response after hearing that I was attempting homemade pizza dough. He poured me a very large glass of wine, and told the kids to get out of the kitchen. I now stick with Kinnikinnick ready made,

ARCHIVED Cranberry Sauce?

Definately agree with making it from scratch. It is actually very easy, tastes so much better, and I love the way it makes my house smell!
