  1. Ditto what everyone else said......just put him on the diet. I have one dd who tested positive, and two boys who tested negative. All are gluten free, and are doing much better. My 2 year old who tested negative had a wheat cracker at grandma's three days ago, and had a major reaction. He has a high fever today, and is miserable. So I don't put a lot...
  2. I have experience with developmental delays as well, with my 4 year old daughter. She is in speech therapy now, and at her evaluation she was 12-18 months behind in her development. We are going to put her in regular preschool this fall, and see how she does. I'm really nervous about it, b/c I don't know how she is going to fit in. First, the kids are...
  3. I was thrilled to see this!!!! I had just about given up hope 45 minutes into the show, thinking there is no way this is going to be about Celiac. Then when I heard him say "do a biopsy on the baby", I knew it was coming. I was so excited, I was yelling at the TV, and I too teared up a little bit. It was great that such a popular, mainstream show was...
  4. Just wanted to add that we too LOVE the Namaste spice cake mix. My dad makes spice cake muffins for the kids, and puts craisins and about a cup of minced carrots in there too. The kids don't even know that the carrots are in there. My two year old actually chose a spice cake muffin over a sucker the other day, so that should tell ya how great these taste...
  5. I posted this below too......but dairy does affect my daughter's moods. She initially had tummy issues with the dairy as well, but those have cleared up. But when she was eating large amounts of milk products, her moods seemed to be getting worse. It was similar to a glutening, but she was in general more mean and withdrawn. I knew she wasn't getting...
  6. Sounds familiar here too. I'm so glad you didn't listen to the Pedi GI and followed your instinct. My daughter has a positive diagnosis, but she had nearly every symtpom in the book by the time we took her to a GI doc. In our case, it was the GI who first listened to my concerns.......she was 3 years old and weighed 20lbs. But since I'm small, no other...
  7. Thank you! I usually don't buy these since they are so expensive, but with a coupon I would. Thanks again for sharing.
  8. Going gluten free regulated my periods too, so I'm probably not much help. Actually, I call this pregnancy my gluten-free surprise. I hadn't really needed any form of birth control for a year and a half b/c my periods were so screwy. I would pretty much spot all the time. The first month I went gluten free......no more spotting, then voila, PREGGO!...
  9. Welcome to the board! Come vent here anytime, I can't imagine doing all this as a single mother. It does sound like your youngest is heading down the same road, that's just how my Ben was. He tested negative, but his eczema and lactose intolerance is completely gone now that he's gluten free. He ate a gluten cracker two weeks ago, and sure enough, a nice...
  10. I think that Celiac or gluten intolerance is probably way more common than the latest stats (1% I think?). Just in our family, my daughter is the only one who actually tested positive, but we have all had good results with the diet. My pediatrician frustrated me at our last check up.......he totally blew off the fact that Ben's eczema completely cleared...
  11. I think I would still be an emotional wreck, and I would still be trying to get the hang of this diet if it weren't for this site. I can't even put into words how much this board has helped us. I think the biggest thing I have gained from this site, is the strength to make ALL my kids and myself gluten free, not just the one with the + diagnosis. Our...
  12. Sorry, I'm a little late in replying to this. I would definately get your daughter tested, and even if it comes back negative, give the diet a trial run to see if her mood improves. My daughter gets extremely emotional if she has a gluten accident, that is the part I dread the most b/c I know we are in for at least two weeks of moodswings. We have also...
  13. I would bring a brownie, cookies, or frosted cupcake. The cupcake worked best for us, b/c it at least resembled what everyone else was eating. And the ice cream, if it's just plain vanilla, most are okay from what I have found. But beware of cross contamination.....at the last party we went to, someone put a spoon in the ice cream that had touched the...
  14. We have it really easy.....for my son's soccer snack, we are only allowed to bring fruit. That eliminates most of the common allergy problems. So, the boys usually get grapes, strawberries, orange or apple slices. Kind of boring, but the kids don't seem to mind and actually devour the fruit at halftime.
  15. Aren't they awesome? I would have to say this is the one gluten-free product I could not live without. When I don't feel like cooking, it's a pizza night. I just found some Hormel gluten-free canadian bacon for our pizzas and can't wait to try it with mozz and pineapple. For my casein free daughter, I put olive oil and garlic salt on the pizza and give...
  16. My two year old loves the frosted Perky O's. But my daughter only likes the Cinnamon Ceros (Heartlands Best I think???) I think I've started something terrible though now that I gave them some Cocoa Puffs for a treat yesterday. Going back to the less sugary cereal is going to be a bugger. I've had such a sweet tooth this pregnancy, and love sugary cereal...
  17. I prefer the Welshire chicken nuggets too, but my daughter likes Ians b/c they aren't as "spicy". I think they are a little plain, but you know how kids are. We bought the fish sticks, but haven't tried them yet. The only thing that kills me is the price.....a teeny tiny box for nearly $6. Eeeek! And to think I used to get a ginormous box of dino nuggets...
  18. Definately stay away from Quaker! We have tried them twice, both the regular and minis, and my little girl had reactions both times. So now, we only eat Lundberg. The buttery caramel ones are pretty good, but they do fall apart quite easily. I always have to vacuum the whole house after my kids have walked around eating rice cakes!
  19. I've been wondering the exact same thing.....I just made my daughter casein free again to see if it would help with her recent temper explosions. We have done fine eliminating casein so far, but I would love to still be able to give her pizza. The kids love Kinn. pizza night, and I have to admit, so do I. It's the one night I get off from really having...
  20. Thanks! I have my b-day coming up in a couple of weeks, I was thinking of going there. Is anything on the gluten-free menu kid friendly at all????
  21. I won't be of much help to you, but I would definately treat your son the same as if he were celiac. I would take the same precautions, and buy a new toaster, utensils, etc. to prevent cross contamination. As far as you and your husband, it certainly wouldn't hurt to be tested. I haven't had testing done myself, but since all three of my kids have either...
  22. I have been in your shoes, and I know how bad it is right now. But, don't keep second guessing your instinct. You KNOW she is doing better on a gluten-free diet, and that alone is more proof than any test can give you. I know it is really nice to have a diagnosis on paper, I have one daughter who has that. But I also have two boys who do not, and they...
  23. My two boys (2 and 7) both tested negative, but have responded well to the diet. My youngest was very lactose intolerant before, if he had even traces of dairy he would have diarrhea and awful diaper rashes. Now he's been gluten free for around 6 weeks, and can tolerate all the diary he can eat! I do have a daughter also, 4, who did test positive on both...
  24. I have to agree.....I would just wait it out a bit. My daughter wasn't trained until she was about 3 1/2. Everyone in our family was giving me a hard time about it, like it was something "I" had done wrong. I think one of the problems with BM training was that it came on so quick, even after being gluten free for months, that she really had no control...
  25. I'm wondering the same thing. Both my boys have tested negative, but definately have a positive dietary response. So I'm wondering if they just have a gluten intolerance at this point, but not full blown celiac like my daughter. Or the testing could have just beena false negative, who knows! We are all gluten free anyway, so it really doesn't matter...
