ARCHIVED Question About Biopsy
floridanative replied to elbar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm no expert but I thought the endoscopy was just the means by which the biopsy was done. The tissue taken is sent to a lab for testing and they if it shows your villi are damaged, you should get a diagnosis of celiac disease. More knowledgeable people will post soon I'm sure and I have my own question for them. I just found out I had some blood test... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Eat?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yum yum!! Thanks for all the tasy ideas! I did have some of those things already so I didn't put those on my list. Fettucine alfredo is my hubby's speciaty so that's going to be at the very end. I think I married him partly due to this dish. Just joking of course. Shirley - we travel quite and bit and eat out a lot even when staying with relatives. It... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Eat?
floridanative posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would like to ask any of you out there what you would eat that contains gluten if you could. My biopsy is in several weeks and the most bothersome sypmtom I have is anemia so I can eat gluten with no noticeable effect. Plus the doc says to eat whatever I want now in case I can't do so after the test. I know if I have celiac disease I'm damaging myself by... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Full Celiac Panel Blood Test?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Again - thanks everyone for your repsonses. George your first post did make perfect sense and I'm thinking my doc may indeed say I can not have celiac disease or gluten intolerance if my biopsy is negative. If it is negative and my blood work is mostly positive (one test is for sure) then I guess the next step is going gluten-free and see where that takes... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Full Celiac Panel Blood Test?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks everyone. I think I will try and do both the biopsy and blood work on the same day if they let me. George - did you take iron for your anemia and are you still? At this point I can't go but a week or so without iron pills and function normally. I'm thinking if I go on the gluten-free diet, I should stay on the iron for a couple of months and then... -
ARCHIVED Hello, New Here, Awaiting Tests
floridanative replied to LeighsaH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please consider that some people don't have positive biopsy results, yet they still can't eat gluten. They are what is called 'gluten intolerant'. My GI told me this week that if someone is intolerant and continues to eat gluten, they will eventually get Celiac disease. So you may want to talk to your doctor about trying the diet to see if you get better... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Full Celiac Panel Blood Test?

Thanks Kathryn - I have already been to a gluten-free food seminar since it was the last one for a while and figured it wouldn't hurt to go and find out all I could for free. I know that I will have lots of options of fine substitutes. My fear is that I will have a really hard time eating out (we do so often) and we travel to places we don't even speak the... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Full Celiac Panel Blood Test?

I am looking for help regarding getting a proper diagnosis for whatever is wrong with me. I had unexplained anemia but some antibody level was way too high so the GI doc said that explains why my iron stores are so low (after taking tons if it for 8 weeks) but he said we'd have to see why the antibody level was so high. He mentioned celiac disease and then... -
Gina - where do you get Amy's gluten-free dressing? I know some of Paul Newmans dressings are gluten-free but I don't know where to buy packets to carry around. What about reg. balsamic vinegar and olive oil? Aren't they both gluten-free? Any nice restaurant would have these available. I have not been told to go gluten-free yet but I'm trying to prepare so...

ARCHIVED Really Bad Experiences Yesterday
floridanative replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh my heart goes out to you. It is just awful that there are some jerks like the one your encoutered at the store in this world. But I really think that most people are good and decent. It's just that the few horrid ones are so hard to take. Feel sorry for him - he's the loser who has no sense of compassion. He is probably a miserable person and very unhappy... -

Thanks Lisa. I am finally alert enough to get online. I had an absolutely non-memorable event this am. I was very scared right before they put me under but I went down like a light and was back up 25 minutes later. I do however remember talking to the doc after and he was ignoring me and talking to my husband. Anyway, the good news is I don't have colon cancer... -

Well at my GI office I was by far the youngest person there and I'm 42. There was one guy that was probably a little younger than me but he was just waiting for his grandmother - I had to laugh. There are about 4 million people in the metro Atlanta area so I thought it odd that I was the only person there in my age group. Oh well, as long as it gets us to... -
I saw my derm. last week. He had to give me a new topical solution (for bad psorsisis) as the steroid one that works great is not good to use long term. He is the one who found out I was anemic (other docs missed it) so he asked how I was and I told him about my malabsorption problem and upcoming tests. So he said 'oh, then when you get that settled and...

ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Double-decker?

Yep - finished with my first batch and it was not tasty but not horrific either! Thought I was going to get sick from getting nauseous after the drink settled but I didn't. My next batch isn't until 8 pm and now I'm getting worried that I'll be up all night in the bathroom. Guess it won't matter since I can sleep all day after the test. Good... -
ARCHIVED Tea, Health And Celiac
floridanative replied to AmandaD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm a huge tea drkinker and my new favorite tea is Mighty Leaf Tea. I had it at a resort in CA and started ordering it online before I found out I can get it here at Norsdtroms. The African Amber is to die for! I hope I can still have it if I have to go gluten-free. I love so many teas/flavors that I'm sure not all of them are safe. Also, Revolution Tea is... -

ARCHIVED Help W/ Gluten Challenge - Biggest Bang For Buck?
floridanative replied to trimummy of 2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can someone please tell me what a gluten challenge is? I am guessing it means you go off gluten for a while and then test yourself by eating it again and see how you react - is that right? Thanks in advance for explaining! Tiffany M. -

Stephanie, I am not eating gluten-free since I have no idea if I'm Celiac or not yet but I noticed on my chicken broth cube package there is yeast in it. What type broth can you have that is gluten-free? I'm just now starting to get really hungry but I slept in until about 8:30 today. I work from home so clients have been keeping me busy which is good... -

[ No I haven't so I guess everyone is right that this stuff is NASTY! I just re-read my directions to make sure I wasn't confused. I don't understand why you start drinking tomorrow morning and I don't start until 5 pm. My appt. is at 7 am Thurs. It's too late to call now so I guess I'll just follow the instuction sheet. It's pre-printed so it's not like... -
