  1. Just in case anyone is still getting ready for the diet like me (after my biopsy, either way) I will relate Revlon's response to my inquiry about their cosmetics and if any were gluten-free. Due to the way that ingredients are manufactured and shipped, we can not say that any of our products are gluten free. (I'm paraphrasing as I don't know how to paste...
  2. Okay - I am now totally confused. The girl who schedules procedures for my GI is out sick so someone else called me back to change my endoscopy date to right after Thanksgiving instead of Jan. But she said something like we don't do biopsies here so I don't think I can help you. Now she is just filling in so I realize she probably doesn't know what the heck...
  3. Okay - here's mine. My husband and I are celebrating Christmas with my family in another state. Originally I thought I could not possibly start the diet until Jan. after the holidays and a business trip. I know I was really just trying to make it easy on my family because my Mother makes a big deal out of the fact that we don't eat red meat. Now with my anemia...
  4. I just did a Google search (make tracks for Celiacs) and several Celiac walking events came up. Didn't have time to read as I have to close down now but I noticed the only things I saw were on the west coast so I'll look it up later to see what's in the east coast.
  5. nini- thanks for the info on soy sauce. I'll look for it at WF. tarnalberry - I do know they didn't do a full panel blood test for Celiac, they told me that. And they said I didn't need it run because of one anti-body test result which the doctor told me was not conclusive at all. Anyway, I'm paying to see the hemotologist so I feel like he'll run the...
  6. No. Doc said not to go on the diet so I'd have an accurate biospy but I know there are a lot of false negatives out there and I've only had anemia a year (found out this March) so I'm doubtful that my test will show any damage in such a short time but maybe I'm wrong about that. Anyway, I decided to have the bloodowork done with the hemotologist in two...
  7. Oh well I will just keep reading and wait for her Doctors appointment. Thank You and Take Care. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  8. This is just my own rant about bad doctors so don't read on if you're not interested. As long as I've been completely healthy, doctors have been great to me. Sinus or upper resp. infection every other year, anti-biotics to treat it and that was that. Then four years ago I had walking phenumonia. Obviously you don't really feel sick when you have it, hence...
  9. You are right Vydorscope! I thought I was doing well to be this far along getting tested and I presented only with Anemia in March of this year. Didn't get told to see the GI until Sept. but on second trip there (to disuss test results) he mentioned I MAY have celiac disease. Just found out about someone in Chat. who took 13 years for her dx. I think insurance...
  10. My biopsy is scheduled for Jan 17th but I'm not sure if I should find another GI to do it. I called last week to the current doc and asked for a full panel celiac disease blood test. I'm pretty certain this was never done. One antibody was supposedly too high at 11.1 (normal being 3-4) but that's all I know, not the name of the test. So today the nurse calls...
  11. Thanks for elaborating WH. I understand that does indeed seem stressful and if you don't really need to be on the diet, you'd be better off not on it. My husband is the cook and he's willing to go gluten-free at home as he thinks it will be too hard to do otherwise. We don't have kids which makes it easier as well. Good luck to you finding out what is...
  12. Hi Wandering Hermit - could you please elaborate on the comment that you can't mentally handle the lifestyle of the diet without proof you have celiac disease? I'm not on the diet yet but I'm really worried that I'll have to start it soon and I'm just trying to prepare myself mentally to do it. What about it makes it hard for you personally if you don't mind...
  13. Hi Lisa - what a great question. I am having my biopsy in Jan. just so I can get through the holidays and eat holiday foods. I am expected to make pecan pies for family both at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I may or may not have to go on the gluten-free diet but I don't think it's an option to start it during the holidays. My work load is heaviest this time...
  14. Hi Sam - welcome to the board. I'm no expert about celiac disease but I have read up on intensely in the past few weeks as my GI doc told me he suspects I have it. He also told me it was more common for people with Scottish ancestry. Seems every doc has their own ethnic group they attach to celiac disease but recent research shows that now even some people...
  15. Well I'm just adding some info since with more research, I was able to find a link between genetic problems with folic acid and iron deficiency anemia. It usually occurs in persons over 65 but as young as mid-fifties. Well, I'm 42 but my shingles were misdiagnosed TWICE due to my young age so I don't trust statistics like that. In any case, I decided to see...
  16. I agree! I could see there being a problem with the wheat symbol - has law suit written all over it. I'll have to think about the design. At first I thought the no symbol over a G was great but I don't want people to think I'm an athiest. Tiffany M.
  17. I color my hair at home with L'Oreal products. Manufacturer told me what I use is gluten-free. Also, they do make salon grade colors but I have no idea how many types or which ones may be safe. Someone on another thread posted that they use some type of L'Oreal color that is offered at their salon. Good luck! If I couldn't color my hair I'd have to get a...
  18. Thanks Shirley! Do you mind posting their website? I'm not familair with it. Tiffany M. p.s. never mind. I found the site and they don't have the pin listed in the products for sale. It must not have sold well.
  19. I sell promotional products and have many times sold custom lapel pins for clients. Maybe we need a pin for celiac disease. Could be a gluten-free or NG (no gluten) in a neat design - I think celiac disease would make people think of regular celiac disease's plus many people who are gluten free don't have celiac disease dx. For NG we could have the no symbol...
  20. I have unexplained anemia. After finding out that iron pills aren't doing the trick, I finally saw a GI last month and he runs some blood/stool tests. Only thing odd is some anti-body level is too high - don't know which one - and my iron stores are almost depleted totally. Had to go back on iron except for 7 days before the colonscopy he makes me get. He...
  21. Hi luvs2eat - Thank you for posting this recipe. I was panicked at the thought of not having cornbread dressing during the holidays and quickly found a gluten-free cornbread mix online but I didn't order it as I'm still waiting on more tests/results and I'm not on gluten-free diet yet. Have you ever tried the gluten-free cornbread mix and if so, was it any...
  22. Speaking of Panera Bread - during my colon test last week, right before drifting off to neverland, some woman came into the room and sat down at a computer monitor. I couldn't see her but she mentioned something about eating bagels. I had hunger pains from being on the liquid diet the day before so I said 'please be quiet, I'm starving. Everyone laughed...
  23. I agree with everypne else. The woman at the pizza party is not worth knowing! You should feel sorry for her that she has such bad manners. I have a hard time believing people can be that rude but I know they can be. You were right to do what you did - end of story. Tiffany M.
  24. Nope - I'm not gluten-free yet. Colon test was first (insurance!) and I am going to have the biopsy but in the meantime I'm seeing a specialist who deals with anemia (my worst ongoing symptom) so it will be a while before I find out if I have celiac disease or not. My dermatologist recently told me that if my anemia clears up so will my scalp so I have...
