ARCHIVED Weight Loss/gain
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was so upset yesterday that I totally forgot to ask another question regarding what this new GI said to me. He asked if anyone in my family had celiac disease or had colon or stomach cancer. I told him not as far as I knew (but my family is the kind that doesn't talk about that stuff and anyone who may have had something is already dead now). So he looked... -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss/gain
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know what the first doc thought - I know you can't always see minimal damage with the scope even. Luckily I have a trade show in Orlando next week so I'm going to enjoy myself and the sunshine and not worry about it until I get the test. I was so upset today that I didn't even think to ask how long it will take to get the results but the office... -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss/gain
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I appreciate any and all comments as I'm so perplexed. The reason I changed to the other doc is the first GI said 'you may have Celiac Sprue, it's very rare and it's an allergy to wheat'. Then he promptly made me have a colonoscopy - not the biopsy first. After the colon test was fine, we scheduled the endoscopy and his fill in scheduler person said 'we don... -

Thanks for your post schmenge. I guess the biopsy will tell all or nothing so I just have to wait a few more weeks for an answer. -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss/gain
floridanative posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well I guess I'm just as perplexed today as ever after meeting a new GI that I know has more knowledge about celiac disease than the other two docs I've seen before combined. The first and only GI I saw before today told me based on my out of the blue anemia and postive result for the tTg test plus the bloating, gas, stomach aches and so forth, he thinks... -
ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
This is the week for 'G'. If your last name begins with it, e-mail any tv or radie show, or any pulication and ask them to do a story on Celaic Disease. Sorry this is a day late. I was out of town yesterday. Happy New Year! -

ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
Sorry I forgot that this is e-mail Oprah (or whoever) day for those of you whose last name starts with a G. And I agree with the post above, I don't get to watch Oprah much, but I have heard much criticism of her show of late, that all she has is a variety talk show. That's why we added that you should e-mail whoever you think would cover the issue - Emeril... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
floridanative replied to zip2play's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the idea that going on the gluten-free diet will either confirm Celiac or not, it will just take a while. My biopsy is in Jan. just so I can get through the holidays and a trade show trip without worrying about what I can eat. But since I really only have the anemia, my biopsy could surely come back negative - neither confirming or denying for... -
Dear creid - all I can say is that I think you work with a bunch of jerks (your insensitive boss included) and I'm so sorry that happened to you. My motto is 'what goes around, comes around'. These people will get their due one day. Have a great weekend and happy holidays to you!

Thank you for all the helpful info/websites DonnaD! I'm a little less anxious about finding gluten-free food over there now. Happy Holidays! -
ARCHIVED Anyone In France?
floridanative replied to DonnaD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi DonnaD - I'm actually in the US but plan to travel to both London and Paris next spring. We are staying near Buckingham Palace. Do you know of any 'safe' places I should try in that area of London? Any tips you can share would be great. The hotel has a buffet with some fresh fruit and hopefully safe meats I can eat for breakfast. We're on our own for both... -
ARCHIVED Weight Gain In Four Weeks
floridanative replied to Lisa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks to those of you who mentioned Lexapro as a possible weight gain culprit. My sister has been on that for several months now and she has gained weight, is working out all the time to lose it, but we never connected the dots that the two things could be related. Now at least she can try and figure out if the drug is the problem. -

ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
It's week 'F' for those of you who want to participate in our e-mail campaign. Our goal is to get celiac disease talked about on a 'mainstream' media program. Please e-mail Oprah, Emeril, Martha, the view, CNN and anyone else you can think of. Good luck and happy holidays to everyone! -
Welcome to the board Carly! Glad you're with us. I can not point you to proven research regarding gluten ingestion through the skin. However, most people on this forum believe it does make a difference to try and get all the gluten out of their lives. However, I can tell you that my doctor told me to use topical progesterone cream for homonal balance...

ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
eeyor_fan had a great idea (in another post) about getting celiac disease on Emeril Lagassee's show. This is a great idea so we may as well e-mail his show too and another obvious place is on Martha Stewart's new show. I think Emeril would be more likely to respond (met him at GMA taping and he's extremely nice) but it won't hurt to contact Martha too. The... -
ARCHIVED Anybody Out There Who Tested Negative For Celiac
floridanative replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My first GI told me that you could have some symptoms of celiac disease (or gluten intolerance) and if in early stages it may or may not show up in the first biopsy. He also left untreated eventually the biopsy would show damaged villi. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Dove?
floridanative replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What you are saying is EXACTLY why I didn't want my biopsy before Jan. b/c if I have to go gluten-free, I'll do it the day I'm told. This way I can have one last 'normal' holiday season without all the griping and comments that I'm sure are in my future. Obviously not having bad reactions (except for anemia) helps so I could tolerate another month. I know... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Dove?
floridanative replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
jerseyangel - that's what I thought about fresh turkey, that's it's not gamey but if I can eat frozen I will do so with my family b/c if you change anything about their holiday meal they are not happy and let you know it. You and I have discussed our family situations before. Mine's not the most supportive to say the least. Again, I'm thankful there is a... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Dove?
floridanative replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey jerseyangel - the Butterball e-mail has been sent so I'm very intersted to know what their response is. I mentioned maybe having to get a fresh turkey for Christmas to my Mother and she told me she'd had fresh turkey before and it tasted gamey. I think I've had it too and I'm pretty sure it doesn't taste gamey. I won't be on the diet before Jan. anyway... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Dove?
floridanative replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry I can't post Butterball's note to me because I've already deleted it. Believe me I was suprised that they would tell me not to eat their frozen turkey - only their fresh ones if I can't eat gluten. But what they said was that because they have a proprietary recipe for their flavoring (injected into turkey) of their frozen turkey and frozen turkey... -
ARCHIVED Ladies Only....feminine Problems?
floridanative replied to mandigirl1's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
This is very interesting to me mandigirl. About three years ago saw my gyno about a rash around my rectum (sorry tmi) and she said it was a yeast infection. Being 39 and luckily never having had one before I thought it was odd that it would happen to me then. Well the yeast cream didn't work so they told me to come back in asap so they could do a skin biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Dove?
floridanative replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with jenvan - we need people like eeyor fan on this site. There are some here that are more thorough than others - shall I say - and she is one of them. I understand her gripe completely as I myself posted Butterball's response about their frozen turkeys three times when others were writing that all turkey is gluten free. NOT TRUE! (only fresh turkey... -
ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
It's the week for last name beginning with 'E' to w-mail Oprah and any other talk show you like (CCN mentioned above and is a great idea I think). Also Sillyak screwed may be onto something. Maybe a show about food allergies/intolerance would be a good angle for a show topic suggestion.
