  1. Ha! Well, "that sucks" could be the motto of this whole board! If you get your results back and post them here someone can help decipher them. I swear, the people on this board are such a wealth of knowledge.
  2. If you suspect celiac you need her on gluten for any testing. It's worth the extra pain right now to push for accurate testing than to backtrack and reintroduce gluten for tests.
  3. I would NOT assume that all is well because you haven't heard back. Heck, it took my GP *weeks* to call me back about a positive cancer diagnosis! It's also fairly common for doctors to not run the full panel and assume all is well when it isn't. I'd call and get the results. The rest? BTDT. Upset nursing infant, weight stalling at introduction of...
  4. One thing I would consider is to have her deal with her own snacks. She opens her own lunch box and opens her own snack bags. She'd also close everything up at the end. I would take their hands out of her food to eliminate accidental CC. My kids use a mix of reusable plastic (Gladware) containers and cloth bags with velcro. Even my 1 y/o can manage these...
  5. I have two celiac kids and one non-celiac preschooler (most likely will be DX when older). Since our girls need a safe place our entire house (sans beer, my Synthroid and Daddy's shaving cream) is gluten-free. Kids are messy so wanted to not stress over dropped crumbs! Before deglutening my house I took a long hard look at what I was going to get rid...
  6. Come join us in the kids' forum. Hand soap - we use Dr. Bronner's and water in a foaming dispenser in all the bathrooms except the guest bath (that one has SoftSoap). While in the kitchen we wash our hands with Dawn and water in a dispenser. Shampoo - I'll be perfectly honest that my kids wash their hair so infrequently that this isn't a serious...
  7. I found a great color tonight at CVS...went to pay and it was only $.49. Woot!! I might go back tomorrow for more colors! THANK YOU!
  8. Thanks all! Keep more ideas coming. Good to know! I pitched all my make-up and then trekked to Sephora (my personal hell). It took them a long time to come up with gluten-free products...and then I got home and researched to find not everything in the bag would work. UGH! Back for returns. Maybe I'll just go to CVS for an easier option!
  9. Hello. I'm interested in what you all use for the following items. Please note that the celiacs in the house are kids so I'm looking into the cheaper options (they can buy the Red Apple lipstick when they're shelling out their own money!). Shampoo and conditioner Leave-in conditioner Body wash Bar soap Shaving cream Lotion Chapstick/Lip Goo Hand...
  10. Thanks! I'll check it out!
  11. After trying several different recipes I found one that my family actually enjoys using Namaste Perfect Flour Blend. Ingredients 3 ½ cups Open Original Shared Link 1 ½ cups milk 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 2 tablespoons oil 2 tablespoons honey ½ cup cornstarch, a...
  12. Wonderful! I stopped by our gluten-free restaurant/bakery today to get each of my kids a gorgeous snowman cookie. The oldest gets to take hers to school tomorrow for the winter party. While all the other kids get Krispy Kreme snowmen she's going to have a fantastic cookie that won't send to to the loo! LOVE options to keep my kids "normal."
  13. I just want to say that this line is true for so many things... My son is not circumsized and every once in a while it comes up in conversation. Some people get totally weird and nearly obsessed about it. My standard answer is "Wow, you sure are putting a lot of thought into my son's penis." Shuts 'em up every. single. time. Once it's pointed out...
  14. Coconut oil is my go-to fatten-upper. It's awesome stuff! Cooking? Throw in a tablespoon. Popcorn? Melt it over the top instead of butter. Freeze a spoonful and eat it like that. Melt it on toasted bread. Heck, sometimes I just give my kids a spoonful before a meal.
  15. We're there too. I really do miss those three hour naps, though...
  16. Can I say that I'm jealous that you get one more gluten filled holiday? ENJOY the gingerbread cookies! And make a gingerbread house - it's a huge PITA finding a gluten-free gingerbread house kit. Poor bub, it really does suck putting them back on gluten for the biopsy. My oldest remembered every painful school lunch during that time. She was in the...
  17. Stephanie - thank you so much for providing input. I seriously hadn't given much thought to allowing communication between the school and the GI. You're right - they don't need that! I like our doctor, but she doesn't know the ins and outs of MY kids. I was supposed to meet with the 504 committee last week, but we had a snow day. I'm glad that it provided...
  18. dilettantesteph - This is the first I've heard of giving up HIPAA rights. I will sign a form that allows them access to speak with her GI, but it seems pretty basic. Hmm. That's interesting. My daughter is 7 (2nd grade) so workload isn't an issue yet, but that makes a lot of sense. I need to consider longer term to this document. She's nowhere...
  19. Welcome! I have my house under control (although I just spent two hours online trying to find gluten-free lotion to deal with our cracked hands) and am in the process of working with the schools. My oldest is in second grade so we're working on her 504. The youngest starts a kids morning out program in the fall and I'll develop one for her this Spring...
  20. I'm with the PP. That thing would be gone so fast... And I would just wait for my MIL to ask what happened to it. But I'm not a MIL fan. At all.
  21. We interviewed two camps last week - one in NY and one in NH. Both are 4-7 weeks. The oldest would *love* them. So we're still debating.
  22. I have: "If X has a gluten attack and needs to be absent from school it will not be held against her overall missed days and homework will be sent home to be completed." Do you think there is a better way to word it? I'm open to changing things around.
  23. Anybody that has one - please chime in and tell me if I'm missing anything or asking for accommodations that are not necessary. Thanks! *** 504 PLAN X (DOB: she is currently 7/2nd grade) Diagnosis: Celiac Disease WHAT IS CELIAC DISEASE? Celiac disease is a hereditary autoimmune disease that damages the villi of the small intestine and interferes...
  24. My daughter started showing signs at 12 months, but wasn't DX until 18 months. She had the same "rash" whenever she pooped. I just shrugged it off, but was clear as a bell that there was an issue. Literally the moment she pooped she would scream bloody murder and her poor bottom would be raw and often have little tears with blood (not from solid stool...
  25. Personally I would retest blood. That's what we did. And it all started with a 12 month old FTT that ended up with DX at 18 months.
