  1. Welcome - sorry you're here with us. I'm not sure the ages of your other kids, but I was really concerned about my older kids really resenting my youngest (the first to be DX) for taking away the "good food." Then my oldest got DX too...and the middle kid just realized that this was his life too and it wasn't worth crying over cheeze-its! We had...
  2. What activities did she do at Weekaneatit? I'm willing to drive the 10 hours - just want to make sure it's worth it. How many kids attend? Are they mostly older? Thanks!!
  3. Just wondering what you all use for your celiac kids. Shampoo and conditioner Body wash/soap Lotion Chapstick/Lip Goo - we are using eos and it's working ok (my oldest had "celiac lips" for years before DX and now I realize it's because our lip goo was just poisoning her over and over. UGH!!) We are going camping with the Girl Scouts soon and...
  4. I checked out their website - they look awesome!! I simply love the idea of non-GMO candy! Have you tried them already?
  5. That's a no go for me, too. We also don't use products made in shared facilities (unless they sanitize all lines before the wheat is thrown in - yes, I contact companies about this). My youngest isn't verbal enough to let us know she's been glutened...other than lots and lots of crying.
  6. Sadly, that's a seven year old thing and taking gluten away doesn't relieve mood swings and sass (oh how I wish it did!). Sorry!
  7. Have you all sent your kids to any gluten-free sleepaway camps? My oldest has gone to Girl Scout camp the past two summers, but there is NO way I trust their standards in helping her with her diet and providing suitable alternatives. I did try to contact them with questions (left a message and an email - both with no response) because I told her I would...
  8. Yay!! Awesome job keeping up with his needs!
  9. My youngest's primary source of gluten was via breastmilk and she tested off.the.charts. in her celiac lab. I'd get the blood test sooner rather than later. It's easy enough to do and will give you a ballpark of where he stands.
  10. My daughter (age 7) was invited to a birthday party this weekend. The birthday twins are good friends and I adore their mother. Before the party she asked where she could buy a single gluten-free cupcake to decorate like the others. I gave her some ideas, but told her I was happy to buy the cupcake for her and please don't go out of your way. Fast...
  11. Our GI DX two of my kids with blood alone. We only did the biopsy to get a starting point visual. Yes, he should have one serving of gluten a day leading up to the biopsy. It sucks when you already know and have to feed them poison!
  12. The best "kid fatten-upper" is coconut oil. When it's in the liquid form you can put it on a spoon and drink it - my two youngest will do that. You can also keep it in the fridge and eat it in a solid state. It really doesn't taste like anything. Toss it in a smoothie. Spread it on toast. Put it on cooked veggies like you would use butter. Seriously...
  13. It must be doctor specific, right? My one year old was DX on blood work alone. Granted, her numbers were off the chart. We even redid blood because they were so alarmingly high for such a young person. Then my seven year old was DX based on blood, having a 1st degree relative and lack of growth in a year. We did the scope, but she had her DX first...
  14. No shoes here, either. Before I even popped out kids I was disgusted by what's on the the bottom of them in my house. BLECH! I think my new sign is going to say: "Welcome to our gluten free house! Please keep your LPBs in the car and use the decontamination shower on the side of the house. Only naked people with wine welcome to come in!"
  15. Wow! Who would have thought a sign to protect the little safe home bubble for my kids would have brought out such emotion? I'm amazed by that! I see both sides of the coin. Truly. The vast majority of people that come over have kids that are friends with my kids - which means they care about my kids. I'm thinking a gentle reminder to wash any potential...
  16. I can't even tell you how sorry I am to hear this. Seriously, I had two kids scoped last week and they both came back negative. I cried! I wanted there to be clear damage so I *knew* I was making the right decision. The oldest kid is still going with celiac - even after a negative biopsy. The GI DX her before the scope and said that it's not uncommon...
  17. Weird - my post didn't show up! Oh, yes, I tell people to not bring anything! No worries about that. Our house is *the* house for entertaining so it's not uncommon to have families with young kids coming and going all the time. Since so many moms keep snacks in their purse/diaper bag I wanted ONE more reminder to not bring it in. Some moms have already...
  18. Because my celiacs are still quite young and can't control themselves to crumbs on the floor I'd like to make a sign for the front door. This would be a visual for adults to keep their Cheerios and their granola bars in their bags and not on my kitchen table! It would hang next to the doorbell so it can't be missed. Help me brainstorm ideas - this was...
  19. I so love that list! It's perfect for my little celiacs to know what they can and can not eat. We are going to a Trunk of Treat at our elementary school tonight and I alpha'd the list of the treats my kids would actually like. I'm printing off a copy for myself and my husband (since they know they need permission from either of us to eat anything)....
  20. You guys are awesome!! Thanks for the help.
  21. I'm looking to put together a list for Girl Scouts, soccer parents, etc of the absolute most mainstream gluten-free snacks that my kids can eat. We are talking about the people that usually throw individual cheeze-it bags and capri-suns on the table for the kids. Help me brainstorm! * Individually wrapped string cheese * Individually tubed yogurt ...
  22. I hope he starts to heal now. Please take care of yourself while he's getting care in the hospital.
  23. For reference, my youngest is 1.5 and has been gluten-free for a month. She hasn't gained any weight, but her face is looking fuller as if the weight is right around the corner. Right now I'm just letting her body repai itself, but don't withhold food when she wants more.
  24. Alright, I'm off the Target to buy wet ones, a big bottle for water, car soap and some towels. I now declare I am "that mom"!! Thanks for the help!
  25. Paraphrasing from the GI - the older two kids have enough symptoms collectively to say if they don't have celiac today they will receive a DX in the future (time unknown). The both have first relative (youngest kid had testing numbers off the chart for a baby), elevated numbers, no weight gain and stomach pains. GI said she would DX them today to help with...
