  1. Take it from a restaurant employee for 10 years.... 1. Make an appt with the General Manager and at least a Sous Chef (assistant chef) 2. Bring your Gluten allergy card with things to avoid 3. Explain crioss contamination w/ fryers and the like. 4. Tell them how much you love Roy's (or whatver restaurant it is before you got celiac disease...
  2. Where do you live????????????????????????????????
  3. Thanks QTSY, I'll see if he is on my insurance plan. Have you been to any support groups or gluten-free BBQ's around Vegas?
  4. Chef Roy Yamaguchi has a good reputation....Write a letter to any of his restaurants and ask for food recommendations that are gluten free. Mention wheat, barley, rye, flour, soy sauce, bread crumbs, rue, croutons, beer, etc. Normally, higher end (expensive) restaurants and heavily franchised restaurants are ok for you. It is the ones in the middle...
  5. I bet it is a mistake. Ask for clarification and cut 'n' paste the response you received. Bronco
  6. Also, Keep a journal of what you eat. Make a note of when you feel good and when you feel bad. You will be able to look back and determine which foods are ok for you. Just some friendly advice... Bronco p.s. Don't ever trust ingredients on a package. If you have to know, bring your cell phone with you to the grocery store and call the companies...
  7. FYI, At these meetings, make sure name tags are used that also list all of your allergies/intolerances. In addition, people need to list all of their ingredients if they bring a dish or potluck to the event. Any other action is negligent and dangerous.
  8. Helpful Hint -- Make sure your tortillas are cooked/warmed up on a different surface than the ones they use for the flour tortillas. Often times, they are thrown on together -- even touching!! Mexican is great -- I usually get Carne Asada tacos, side of beans and/or rice. Salsas are normally gluten-free. Always ask the manager for help w/ the menu!...
  9. I did a cursory search on the web for you. Here is a link with restaurants and phone #'s -- Open Original Shared Link Hope this helps, Bronco
  10. Use caution when ordering Nachos. Most restaurants fry their chips (they come frozen or need to be fried) in contaminated oil (other breaded things have been in the fryer prior to the chips). Always DOUBLE CHECK to make sure the chips are safe!!!!
  11. Take it from a waiter, NO restaurant can 100% GUARANTEE there is no gluten in your meal....They can take precautions and do their best to eliminate the problem, but there is no way top be 100% sure. Besides, it would be a grave error in a legal sense to put that gurantee out there (they could be sued if you got sick and they advertised a guarantee). ...
  12. At McDonalds, they have separate fryers for the nuggets and McChickens, etc.
  13. FYI, If something says "Modified Foood Starch" and its food int he USA, it is almost always Corn Starch. I would say around 90% of the time.
  14. If you live in Pittsburgh - go to Mitchells Fish Market. The guy who owns the place is named Cameron Mitchell -- 1/2 the menu is gluten-free (I used to work there). You can get almost any fish prepared how you like (grilled, steamed, sauteed) The Mashed Potatoes are awesome -- good spinach/vegetables also. House salad (no crotons) with house dressing...
  15. I saw "Supersize Me" and I read "Fast Food Nation" Bottom line - McDonalds fries will always be a part of my diet. I have had too many things taken away from my diet already. Eat right? Exercise? Die anyway?
  16. MCD's has dedicated fryers for their French Fries and Hash Browns --- at least they are supposed to -- check your local McD's for this!!! The one I eat at here in Las Vegas has dedicated fryers.
  17. One of my friends referred me to a company called "Say it with cheesecake". I e-mailed the company about gluten-free items and this was their response... "Sorry I took so long in responding. All of our no-sugar-added cheesecakes are completly gluten free. Our blueberry swirl would be a wonderful choice. Best regards, Nick Watson (Head...
  18. SFortney, Which chain did that to you???
  19. Coke from a Soda gun gives me a reaction. I have heard there is wheat in the the soda syrup, but not the bottles. Rampo Beer was pretty good (I havent had beer for 8 years, so what do I care?)
  20. Yum, Yum! Just had a Big Breakfast (Substituted an extra sausage patty for the biscuit) Everything was great (Eggs, HAsh Browns, Sausage) -- I actually went back and ordered another hash brown. I feel fine.........how refreshing!! ** I took the food home and used a glutino bagel and made my own breakfast sandwiches. THis may turn into...
  21. 1. Papa Johns Pizza 2. Breadsticks (Noble Romans had some good ones!) 3. Meatballs (everybody puts bread crumbs in them) 4. Guiness 5. Fried Mozzerella cheese Stix 6. Fried Mushrooms 7. Pizza Rolls 8. Cream of Chicken Soup 9. English Muffins 10. Crumb Cakes (Hostess)
  22. Their chips are good (put gluten-free cheese on them and then the oven or microwave -- gluten-free Nachos!!!) Corn Tortillas take a while to get used to, but I like them now.
  23. Done and Done...
  24. I would be cautious about non-tipping. Clearly, the girl misunderstood your communication -- she did not maliciously screw up your order. Servers remember who "stiffs" them and who does not. Those who "stiff" people tend to get bad tables and "new" servers (experienced servers refuse the tables). I have never "stiffed" anyone, even if they make a mistake...
  25. I go the Buffalo Wild Wings here in Las Vegas all the time! (I'm originally from Ohio, so I have always been hooked) When I eat there, I usually get the bacon cheddar burger (no bun) and hot sauce on the side (spicy garlic). I have heard their chicken cesar salad is gluten-free, but I do not know yet!....Man, I miss those wings!!!!
