Usually restaurants that serve risotto use real chicken broth. As a waiter for 8+ years, I can tell you that 90% of the risotto I have encountered is gluten-free. "Cheap" places do not normally use "fake" chicken stock ---- but always ASK!! I find it best to ask the waiter for a pad and paper -- write down your question to the chef and also give...

I was a bartender at GB. They use the beer in many sauces and salad dressings (yes, beer is used in some of the salad dressings Having said that, I used to have the NY strip w/ mashed potatoes (no gravy). They can also do a green salad with veggies (no croutons) and oil and vinegar on the side. Also, call ahead and ask the chef about the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gf Beer
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to GlutenFreeGirlie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is great. I had it in Ohio when I was there in May-June. They are selling it as West as Iowa/Minnesota. I talked to the CEO of the company and he said they are "actively looking" for a west coast brewery. It should be out here by Nov-Dec 2005. Cross your fingers! -

My buddy in Indianapolis is a food inspector for Hebrew National. All the dogs are gluten-free. They are also kosher. -
FYI, The Wendy's near me does keep the fries and chicken strips in separate fryers. The manager told me they were cognizant of cross-contamination. I am still concerned as the fries and the chicken strips are separated under the heat lamp by a piece of metal and the "fry scooper" and "chicken tongs" are kept in the same shelf... Bummer...

How was it served? Did you watch them make it? Did you tell them to make it fresh? I always say "Ketchup only, no bun, LTO on the side." Did you have fries? They are not 100% gluten-free anymore....

ARCHIVED Discrimination - Glutein-free
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Dittenheim's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The commission may have taken the issue up to "pressure" the restaurant into changing their policy. I just did a little legal research here in the office. I have been unable to find a law or case that would "force" the restaurant to offer substitute items. Restaurants can refuse service to anyone they desire as a private enterprise. What is the name... -
ARCHIVED Discrimination - Glutein-free
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Dittenheim's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Also, the dish may be priced out because of the selections on the plate. In restaurants, pasta is extremely cheap, potatoes are more expensive -- if this is the case, they do not HAVE to substitute items. It would be like going to Mc Donalds and telling them to substitute a milk shake for soda. Having said that, I was suprised they did not offer an... -

I am a lawyer, I don't think you have a complaint that can result in the relief you are seeking. Having said that, some bad publicity for the restaurant can always effect change. What is the name of the restaurant and the address? You have a few thousand people on this website that could drop them a letter/e-mail telling them how much we disapprove... -

I think a lot depends on how much you arev taking. Some people when they start take like 200MG a day. Currently, I take 25mg (1 pill) every day or every other day). If I stop taking dapsone, the DH will come back - it always does -- and yes, I have new pots and pans, gluten-free toiletries and I rarely eat out -- for some reason, it doesn;t go away. ...

Order it "no Bun" everytime! Even crumbs can hurt your intestine and invoke bad symptoms (nausea, diarrhea, DH, etc). If possible watch as they make your food (it is easier at Wendys, Mc D's and Arby's because you can see the kitchen. -- Sometimes the employees will just taka an old sandwich and "remove the bread" -- this is unacceptable -- make them... -
