ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tdrew, The short answer is yes. Even if you do not feel nauseated, abdominal cramps or diarrhea, you may be hurting yourself. Think about times when you had diarhhea but did not feel bad. Many celiacs have osteoporosis, but have never felt any nausea. Some people are "silent celiacs" that will never feel symptoms until it is too late (cancer... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to minivanmama0300's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed via a biopsy sample from one of my DH blisters. Some doctors believe in one way and some believe in several ways to diagnose. -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Laura, I had the garlic mashed potatoes and didn't have a reation. They were great too. I'm sorry they had a malevolent effect on you The best part of the meal was the pollo rosa maria. (The soup and salad were no slouches either) Bronco -
Make you own chicken stock. Take a big saucepan. Boil a chicken (with bones) with some carrots, onions and peppers diced up. Add salt (and garlic/basil) Cook for around 60-80 minutes (boiling) Voila, fresh chicken stock

ARCHIVED Burger King, Macdonalds, Wendys, Arbys
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to deener's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
FYI, I always take some gluten-free bread with me in the car for these little inconviences. I eat at the Arby's next to my office at least once a week. Be careful though, I always tell them to put the meat directly into a plastic "Montana" container -- and not to remove the meat from another bun!!!!!!! P.s. I have never had a problem w/ Arby's sauce... -

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Roo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
9 times out of 10, it is corn starch (if made in the US) But you should ALWAYS call -- you don't want to encounter the 1/10 badluck. Bronco p.s. The 9/10 thing is not backed up by any research -- just my own personal experience. -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to LLH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

FYI, They have the big baskets for the fries at McD's. They have smaller (individual holders) ones for the other food. They don't use utensils for the fries -- they just sort of take the basket out and "throw" them onto the fry sheet........the nuggets and Fish/Chicken don't ever touch the fry sheet. Jeez, I remeber alot from my working days at...

ARCHIVED Sick From Spag. S., Stewed Tom, Tvp, Lip Medex?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Lesliean's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Be careful, I have heard Heinz "organic ketchup" has gluten. Anyone else know if this true? I will e-mail the company. -
The nuggets, Filet o Fish and Mc Chicken have a separate fryer from the fries and hash browns. According to McDonalds corporate office, that is the guidelines the restaurants follow. Whether or not they do depends on the individual McDonalds. It is best to ask.

Found this recipe.... ARCHIVED Crab Legs And/or Other Fish?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Turtle, I think I am confused by yuor query to the restaurant people. Being a former waiter for 9 years, I can tell you that nothing in a restaurant can be "guaranteed" gluten-free. However, if salads are just veggie salads (i.e. lettuce, tomatoes, veggies, etc) and you ask for them to be served "dry" (i.e. no dressing) and you ask for oil... -
ARCHIVED Going To Central America
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to chels12's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Be cautious of "Mole" sauces -- very traditional in Mexiaco and Central America -- they are often made with nuts and such. You defintely should make your won cards up that discuss your individual allergies and that explain cross-contamination. Have fun.....I hope to travel to Costa Rica/Panama later this year... -
ARCHIVED Crab Legs And/or Other Fish?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Turtle, The problem usually lies in the "bowls" they mix the salds in. If you order your dressing on the side -- they will not touch the contaminated "bowls" I have never heard of a problem with Red Wine/Balsamic Vineagar and Olive oil on the side -- 99% of restaurants have little cruets you pour on yourself. This is assuming we are talking about... -
ARCHIVED Crab Legs And/or Other Fish?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
"Salads are usually never gluten-free" Not true... Just ask for no croutons and oil/vinegar on the side.....easy! Or got to the store and buy one of Annie's dressings ( I like the Green Garlic) -- she has like 30 salad dressings that are gluten-free -- it says it on the back! -
I live in Vegas. Born in the U.K. Raised in Dayton, Oh. College at Ohio State (Columbus) Graduate school in San Diego Whew!

Take it easy guys, They are at least trying to help. Again, I would ask for clarification. Aftrer the responses we get from Outback and PF Changs (which still makes me ill), we expect all other restaurants to measure up. I would say this place has a large amount of cross-contamination -- same with Bob Evans and any "diner-esque" place. These places...

ARCHIVED Old Spice Soft Solid Deoderant...
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to flboysmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
DH can appear on the body where there is friction or rubbing. Your underarms are being "rubbed" all day by your arms. I usually get DH there or where my belt goes around my waist. It is a histamine reaction....its common for DH to be under his arms. I beleive the Deodorant is ok......probably something else.....
