  1. Hi. Just wondering if anyone is from the Pensacola Florida area? We were trying to find a local support group but haven't had any luck yet. If anyone knows of one around here please let me know. Thanks, Jennifer
  2. Just wondering if its a common thing with Celiac patients to at some time have elevated liver enzymes come back on the blood work. Shane (my husband) had a dr's appt. on Friday and he ran blood work (routine) to check vitamin levels (he's been getting B-12 injections since November 05), ect.... the full work up, he does this every 3 months to keep an eye...
  3. Can you give any information about these conferences you are talking about and how do you find out about them? Thanks. Jennifer
  4. Does anyone know if the Quaker Grits are cross contaminated? I was buying them for my husband because I had read I believe on the Delphi List that they were gluten-free but he was having a lot of gluten symptoms and I narrowed it down to those. Just curious what everyones experience or opinion is of the Quaker Grits. Thanks. Jennifer
  5. My husband has been gluten free for about 3 months. He has good days and bad. He also gets the pain like you described in his chest. He has had his gallbladder out so I know for him its not the gallbladder but that is a very simple test that can be done to rule it out. He has also eliminated soy and casein from his diet. Hope your feeling better soon...
  6. I just noticed the other day that his hair seems thinner on the top too. I didn't relate it to this but who knows. He is very fatigued also. Hoping the B12 shots help with this but so far he hasn't noticed any improvement from them. Jennifer
  7. Hi Emily Welcome to the board. It has been a real life saver for me and my husband. There is a lot of helpful information here and a lot of super caring and supportive people to help with your questions and concerns on your "journey". Good Luck. Jennifer
  8. I bought this same bread machine at Dillards in the mall. It was $89.95 or $99.95 I don't remember. Works great. I made the Breads by Anna from www.glutenevolution.com and they were great. You can get them with different ingred. for your diet (gluten-free - or gluten-free,c/f,s/f, y/f and so on). Jennifer
  9. Thanks for this info. I am definately going to ask for the test. We know for sure he has Celiac so if he has malabsorbtion it is a complication of the Celiac not instead of. I have been doing some research on malabsorbtion and I haven't seen anything about the insulin pills as a treatment so I'll ask him about that if the test comes back positive. Thanks...
  10. Now that I think about it the other day Shane had a bruise on his cheek and we couldn't fiqure out where in the world it came from. I kept thinking maybe he slept on his hand or something and we never could figure it out. I noticed he has a bruise every once in a while on his legs and arms. He tested negative for malabsorbtion thru entrolabs several months...
  11. We got the pizza crust and chocolate chip cookies from their Gluten Free Bakehouse also and they were great. We also got a loaf of the gluten-free fresh bread and it was good too. The closest one to us is also about 1 1/2 hours away so we don't get there to often either. Jennifer
  12. There are several lists available on this site - if you go to the site index and go down the list to about the 5th or 6th item it will say safe and forbidden food items that should help you get started. My husband has been gluten free for about 3 months now and he is still having a lot of the same symptoms you are having. He feels better than he did in...
  13. Thanks for the comments. I'm so glad your husband is doing so much better. My husband has only been gluten free for about 3 months now. He has been ill since July 2005 and got a diagnosis in August and then the doctor had him do a gluten challenge after only 7 weeks gluten-free so after all that he is now gluten free for 3 months with 2-3 accidental glutening...
  14. Anxiety can do many things to a persons body. I swore I was having a heart attack a few months ago and went to the emergency room and they said it was a painc attack. I'm assuming I got myself so worked up worring about Shane that I gave my self the attack, and it is totally out of your control. Dani - Since you seem to be following along the same path...
  15. Hi Dani. My husband (Shane) is the Celiac in our family and I have been reading alot of your post lately and feel like you are writing about him. He had chest pain last night also. He was having some terrible stomach pains and I gave him 2 pepto chewables and then he woke up this morning with a black tounge (I found out this was from the pepto) but his...
  16. For any of you who have currently or had malabsorbtion in the past can you please tell me your symptoms and what you did for it. I'm not sure if my husband (Shane - the Celiac) has it and if he does do you just stick with the diet and wait it out or is there something you can do to help maintain the weight and help w/ the absorbtion. The symptoms that are...
  17. Hi. My husband has been on disability since July 1, 2005. He has disability insurance thru work though not the social security disability. He works for Comcast Cable and they provide a short term disability program that last for 6 months and after that the insurance company evaluates if you qualify for long term disability if you have opted to purchase...
  18. Thanks Jessica. I just came across a site about pepto causing this and everyone (a long list of complainers) said they had black spit and it brushes off same as my husbands. And yes he took two pepto last night before bed. Thanks again for the help. Jennifer
  19. My husband woke up this morning and when he went into the bathroom to shower and brush his teeth he noticed the back of his tounge was black in splotches. Has anyone else had this happen or know what it could be a sign of? I was worried about dehydration. I am waiting until the doctor's office opens and I'm going to call - but I'm impatient at waiting...

  21. I just read on another site about a bakery in NY that makes all gluten and dairy free items. All ingredients are listed for each individual item so you can look for any other food intolerances if needed. It listed cookies and cakes but it was pretty expensive. You can order online and they ship the items to you. The web site is www.happyhappyhappy.com...
