  1. Sounds comforting. I'd buy one. I'm sure we wouldn't be the only ones. Jennifer
  2. My husband recently found out he is casein intolerant in addition to having celiac and I have been trying to go thru everything the past few days and figure out what else has to be eliminated from his diet. I emailed a few companies about the gluten-free & c/f status and thought I would share them in case anyone is else is interested. I will post the...
  3. My husband was very nauseous. He still has nausea but now it comes and goes. His main symptoms were nausea, bloating, belching and extreme fatigue. He ended up being casein intolerant also which is why he was still bloating and having nausea while following the diet so carefully. Now we are eliminating both. When he first started the diet he stuck...
  4. Can anyone explain to me the difference between casein intolerance and milk allergy? I understand the difference between gluten intolerance and wheat allergy and I have been researching this today and I'm more confused than when I started. Going gluten free limits food options severely and now I'm trying to figure out all this casein stuff (for my husband...
  5. Jenvan - Thanks for posting those sites. My husband loves hot sauce and I didn't realize all those as well as the French's mustard was ok. He'll be so excited maybe he'll forget about the tobacco issues he's having right now. Jennifer
  6. I bought a bread machine this week from Dillards. It was a Cuisinart Convection Bread Maker for $106.00 including sales tax. It has a cycle specifically for gluten free bread and a few recipies in the cook book that came with it for gluten free recipies. I was excited to see right on the box that it had a gluten free cycle. I stopped at the local...
  7. My husband also had negative blood work and a positve biopsy. He tested with Enterolabs later and had a positive IgA, Gene Test positive for DQ2 & DQ1, & Casein Intolerant. His symptoms when glutened got worse after going gluten free also. I think that is very common. His symptoms are nausea, bloating, belching, and extreme fatigue. Hope...
  8. I tried finding a phone number to check on the ingredients and I couldn't even find a company that would let you contact them by email. I guess they really don't want anybody to contact them regarding ingredients. I would love to know if anyone has actually ever been able to verify this (even though everybody should give it up anyway ). Jennifer
  9. Hi elonwy - Thanks for the reply. I will tell him what you said about feeling like you are going insane. He said he feels like he's going crazy & about to loose his mind. His mother is a smoker (he uses the smokeless tobacco) and she is quitting also for moral support. I think what he is going to have the problem with is the habbit & will power...
  10. Tiffany - Thanks for the reply. I keep telling him that he can do it that he can make it until Monday. He really wants to quit but that crap is so addicting. I was really hoping it was full of gluten because then he'd never put it back in his mouth. I tried telling him it had gluten in it and that's why he gave it up but now he's looking for proof. ...
  11. Does anyone know if cigarettes and smokeless tobacco (chewing tobacco or snuff) contain gluten? My husband gave it up because we weren't sure if it contained gluten and he didn't want to take a chance but now the withdrawls are starting to over take him and I can't find this information anywhere. I've looked online and tried finding phone numbers but these...
  12. CarrieFaith Would you mind sharing your Blueberry Smoothie recipie? I would like to try something like that for my husband. He is also casein intolerant so when you said you used soy milk it got me thinking. Thanks, Jennifer
  13. When my husband had his 1st biopys in July 2005 the doctor told us everything was normal that he didn't see anything, but that he did take some biopsy samples to send off to check for Celiac, H Pylori, ect.... but he didn't expect them to find anything and that we should go back to the GP that refered him. When the report came back it was negative for the...

    ARCHIVED Weight Loss

Hi Jenn M. I don't know if its normal to loose weight on a gluten-free diet but my husband is loosing weight also. He has been gluten free for about 3 months but had to do a gluten challenge a few weeks ago so it was like starting all over for him. Before the gluten challenge once he had been on the diet for about 4 weeks his weight loss had stopped and...
  15. George Thanks for the in depth explanation. It really helped and thanks for the link to the Gluten File. Good Info. Jennifer
  16. I have another question. Does everyone have 2 of the HLA genes or can you have less or more? Like my husband has the DQ2 & DQ1 - does this mean he got one gene from his mother and one from his father? I am so confused. I understand the results I just am baffled with all this gene stuff. In Dr. Fine's explanation it says if you have one gluten sensitive...
  17. My husband (Shane) gets blisters also. Only a few and they burn like a blister (from a burn) when touched. His don't always itch either. I'm not sure what they are but I'm pretty sure they are related to gluten. He got a few right after starting the gluten-free diet (while we were learing all the ins & outs) and they faded and then he had the gluten...
  18. Rachel & Steph thanks for the replies. What exactly is gluten ataxia? And what kind of neurological reactions are seen as a side affect from this gene? Yes he is gluten free. He has been gluten free for several months now with the exception of a 1 week gluten challenge for a repeat biopsy. He had a biopsy begining of July 2005 that showed changes...
  19. Hi. I just got my husbands results back from Enterolab and was hoping someone could help me. Gluten Sensitivity Testing Fecal Anitgliadin IgA 17 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 7 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Microscopic Fecal Fat Score: 99 Units (Normal Range <300 Units) HLA-DQ Gene Molecular...
  20. I just bought some at Wal-Mart and it was made by Kraft so I just read the label and new it was safe. Jennifer
  21. I changed all of our pet food to gluten-free. The dog food is easy to find in gluten-free and its one less thing to worry about with cross contamination. We have an African Grey also and there is more gluten in the bird food than I could have imagined. We now do all fresh fruits, vegtables, nuts and seeds. My husband had actually shown major improvements...
  22. My husbands symptoms are nausea extreme fatigue bloating belching undigested food in stool lightheaded/dizziness weight loss stomach aches/cramping brain fog cold intolerance thirsty all the time problems sleeping thru the night (getting better) dry skin (on face around sides of nose & forehead are "T" Zone...
  23. Thanks. I'll start watching the email for it end of next week then. I hate the waiting. Jennifer
  24. Just wondering how long it took to get back your test results from Enterolabs. The web site and the information that came with the kit said to allow up to 3 weeks just wondering if anyone got thier results any quicker than this. I am waiting on results for the full kit with the gene testing as well as the other items. Jennifer
  25. The doctor called today and he is is ordering a D-Xylose test to check for malabsorbtion. I guess he finally listened to me yesterday about the food in the poop issue. He also is ordering a gastric emptying test because he is sure that he does not have a problem with gluten. I'm just glad he's doing the D-Xylose test that should show something. Jennifer
