    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

my friends doc said the following when she asked for a celiac blood screening: "do you know how rare that is?" "if nobody in your family has it, you don't have it" "it's not common in this area" (orlando, fl) "you will have to have a part of your colon removed" I am truly hating doctors more than ever! Whoever said that lawyers were the biggest scum...
  2. you have confused my thread with another- please doctor bashers only! too many positive ones. i need to restore balance.
  3. Hey, just in a doctor hating sort of mood....so I came on here and EVERYONE'S LOOKING FOR A DOCTOR! What happened to you guys? Where's your spunk? Are we not the chronically ill? Do we not hate the doctors for not listening, and thinking we're crazy? Do we not hate them for all of the years of illness that we suffered because of their lack of concern...
  4. There's a guy named rammacable in the St. Lucie area. He's not a celiac or gi, but he does deal with unusual cases that other doctors cannot handle. he's supposed to be good. i've decided that i hate doctors, so have not tried myself.
  5. Celia: I am VERY VERY DISTURBED by your notion that "wheat is a good thing." Firstly, the wheat that was in existence during biblical times is not the same strains of wheat that we eat and grow today. Secondly, lets forget what the bible says, let's use a little thing that I like to call logic. If you believe what the bible says, please do not take...
  6. My overall disregard for the medical profession, is due to the fact that the vast majority do not seem to care about solving their patient's health problems and they are very quick to "diagnose" people like us as hypochondriacs far before exploring another diagnosis. I cannot count the times that I have had unexplained illness, all of which symptoms of celiac...
  7. Just wanted to let everyone know that Nutrition World (I go to the one at PBG) has a HUGE selection of gluten free products at reasonable prices. They have plenty of cookies, crackers, cereals, breads, chebe bread products, glutino bagels, etc. I love that store! They had pamela's cookies ons ale for $2/box for certain flavors (I got giner bread, they...
  8. I am reffering to the plain whole flavor in the large container. Most yogurts, I find, have some starch in them, so as a general rule for me, I do not eat yogurt, except for plain in the large container. Most of the smaller containers are "low fat" or "low carb" or have a million ingredients in them, some of which are questionable. If you cannot have milk...
  9. walgreens.com has a gluten free list on their website, most store brand items are gluten free. hope it helps you!
  10. Hey all: I just read another post, stating that someone had emailed Oprah, but no response. I have emailed her also, about a month ago. We need to keep emailing her about doing a show about Celiac in order to reach those who are sick and not knowing why. I suffered for 15 years with symptoms, many you have suffered just as long or longer. I wouldn...
  11. As a general rule, anything that says "modified food starch", I do not eat. Maybe you should follow this rule as well. Stonyfield makes yummy, wholesome, gluten-free yogurt, you should try it.
  12. yes, we should keep emailing her. I have emailed her and same thing, no reply. I already e-mailed Oprah about doing a show about celiac disease. I told her I wouldn't be a candidate to be on her show as I'm still in testing and have only been sick a year. But I said she could find MANY people that took well over ten years to get diagnosed and we...
  13. I have been getting this weird cramping in my abdominal region and it feels like my stomoch falls asleep (pins and needles). Also, I look very bloated and have not had a normal period in 3 months. Were any of these symptoms of the "kinks"? I keep thinking something isn't right, but dont want to go to the doctor. I hate going there.
  14. I think that I am getting "glutened." I am trying in the meantime to eat only non gluten items processed in non gluten facilities, as well as produce and meat. I think that I was getting cross contamination from Barbara's cereals. I eat healthy, I drink plenty of Ensure (at least 1 per day), fruits, veggies, protein (a lot of grilled chicken, steak). I...
  15. That quote of course, is based on the theory that everyone is gluten sensitive because gluten is a more modern "man made" grain and our bodies (the human race) have not had time to adapt to this protein. There are studies and such that suggest that gluten damages all human epithelial tissue, not just celiac tissue. Celiac is an autoimmune response ("disease...
  16. I agree with everyone else, gluten is terrible. Please read dangerous grains if you do not believe me. Furthermore, if your other child is gluten free, the best thing for that child would be to have a gluten free kitchen at home, a safehaven where that child can eat and no worry about cross contamination. It is very, very difficult to clean gluten off...
  17. This is so strange, and has nothing to do with the board, but my dad was dx'd with heart disease after eating KFC
  18. My bones hurt, I don't know if I should go for a bone scan? Anything other than walking hurts my body, literally. I stopped rigerous exercise when I was 17. I always thought that I "destroyed" my body from 10 years of soccer and 2 years of cross country, but I guess it was a combination of overworking myself and celiac malabsorption. I also have vein...
  19. ME TOO!!! I have been feeling crappy since eating it, but couldn't figure out what the heck glutened me. I have been practically pulling my hair out trying to figure it out, I even restricted myself to eating at home only, assuming it was something from outside my house, but it's not! THANKS!
  20. If you go to walgreens.com there is a list of gluten free products. Most of their store brand stuff is gluten-free.
  21. I spoke with Boar's head on the phone and the woman told me that the "loafs" olive loaf, pimento loaf, etc are not gluten-free becase of the vinegar, and there was one cheese, a weird cheese that I would never eat so I forgot the name.
  22. I think the chocolate enjoy life bars taste the best. Also AlpSnack, doesn't taste very good (chocolate/espresso is ok) but I feel really good after I eat it. I think its a good balance of sugars and protein. Also, thank you from another post regarding Barbara's cereals. I have been feeling sick lately, like I've been glutened, but couldn't figure...
  23. I am going to the companies' websites who have changed their formulations and added wheat and/or gluten to their products. I am complaining to them all via email and urge everyone else to do the same.
  24. As a former student at Florida State, I miss tailgating before football games or watching football with beer and snacks. SO... what the heck beers can I drink? Bards beer isn't sold in FL...I heard a rumor that Rolling Rock is gluten-free and made from rice, anyone know what I can drink? I feel like an alki drinking a screwdriver at 10am, lol.

    ARCHIVED Struggling

You probably are eating things with wheat, oats, barley or rye in them if you don't feel better already. You may want to clean out your kitchen and "de gluten it", by wiping everything down really well and making sure that all of your utencils are really clean and don't have any gluten residue on them. I also cleaned out my cabinets, I had flour in them...
