  1. And Laura, I actually do eat a lot of fiber. I took it upon myself to lose about 70 pounds, and my biggest thing was eating 9 servings of produce a day! So my body is very used to fiber.
  2. Hey everyone! Sorry I basically fell off the face of the earth, but I did read every reply as they came to my inbox. I took everything into consideration that you said, and I thought that maybe it was something else I had eaten, or it wasn't related at all to eating the Amy's meal. I tried another one last week, it was the tamale verde. Same reaction....
  3. Hey all, I just wanted to share my excitement. For the past 4.5 years, I have foregone everything that involved using a toaster. I don't know what stopped me, but every time the thought crossed my mind, I pushed it back and never got one. Well, no more soggy Udi's Bagels from microwaving them!! PS: It's a pretty teal blue!
  4. Hey everyone! Everything I found online about this was pretty old, so I thought I'd ask the incredibly well-educated people here! Last night at work, I bought one of Amy's Mexican Bowls. It was labelled gluten free, none of the ingredients seemed suspicious to me, but I'm concerned that I got a mild reaction. Then again, it didn't last very long...
  5. Oh, no, I am diagnosed! I meant that's not why I'm gluten free instead of that's now why I'm gluten free (night shift is killing me right now) so sorry about that! I felt so miserable after my suprise glutening last week, that I can honestly say I will never willingly eat gluten. So sorry about the mix up!
  6. I know this has a name and has been covered somewhere on here, but I cannot remember where to save my life. Also, is this "Certified" Gluten-free compliant with the government standard of 20 ppm, or is it 100% gluten free? I've never had a problem with anything I've eaten with this symbol on it, but I was working tonight (I work at a national superstore...
  7. Before my diagnosis, I was heavier than I am now. If I look at gluten funny, I gain weight. I can't explain it, but it's true. So, I guess going gluten free made me lose weight...but that's now why I'm gluten free! I really don't understand how some of us can be super skinny before we are diagnosed (that one makes sense, since we are malnourished), but...
  8. These are hilariously absurd...and scary at the same time. I guess they say that ignorance is bliss...and that laughter is the best medicine. Hey, it looks like we all win!
  9. I'm still waiting to get a new toaster. I never thought I would miss it, because I never ate a lot of toast...but it would be very convenient when having something like a bagel. I'm trying to find an affordable pink one! I'd love to get a new magic bullet. I haven't made a smoothie in years! We have used it for graham crackers, making bread crumbs, etc...
  10. I actually had a conversation on the phone today about this very thing. Celiac or not, if you are gluten free for ANY health reason, I'm backing you up one thousand percent. However, if you come off with "to lose weight," "because *insert your favorite "gluten-free" celeb here* is doing it" or even start to say the word "trendy," I sincerely want to punch...
  11. As some have said before, getting plenty of fluids is your wife's best bet. I try drinking at least 2 liters of water every day, but when I'm feeling particularly ill from gluten, I try to set a goal of 8 oz per waking hour (I don't vomit from getting glutened, so I don't have to worry about it coming back up) to try to keep hydrated from my incessant runs...
  12. It sounds like you have emetophobia. It is actually the fifth most common phobia, and I am an emetophobe too! The sheer thought of vomiting terrifies me because it is, like you said, a pretty foreign concept to me, too. I wasn't very sick as a child, maybe only a handful of times, and as an adult I've only ever thrown up once from, like you said, possible...
  13. This is brilliant!! We have a pretty celiac-heavy area where I live. I wonder why none of us thought about this!!!
  14. Thanks! I highly doubted that I was actually feeling "holes" being chewed through my body, but as you probably well know, I was certainly in a lot of pain. It's subsided a little bit now, but every so often it gets strong again. Thank goodness I'm off for the next three nights...I would be absolutely worthless at work for these next couple of days.
