  1. @notme! - I'm just curious why you said feeling fine until you have a baby is a red flag. Does celiac disease often get activated after a pregnancy? It seems like that's what happened to my mom. After she had me, she had extreme fatigue, ferritin plummeted even though before she had great irons store, and so on.
  2. I second the recommendation to check out thelovevitamin.com! Great site with lots of info. I had mild to moderate acne for many years. I did use Proactiv for a while and that helped, until I developed some kind of allergic reaction to it and my face completely swelled up and was all red and puffy. Fun times. Obviously I had to stop using it. Changing...
  3. Hello, I was wondering what nutrients are recommended to have tested to see if you have deficiencies or if your nutrient levels are improving? My GI said I could have my family doctor test my nutrient levels around 6 months gluten-free, but he didn't specify which nutrients. I know ferritin and vitamin D would be ones...what else? I think I should also...
  4. Thanks for the reply. I am feeling better now. Yes I guess I need to wash my hands before everything haha. My house is gluten-free so it's not such an issue there, but things get trickier away from home!
  5. Is it possible I got glutened from something like this? I was at Christmas dinners/parties and I brought my own gluten-free foods/desserts. However, other people were of course eating gluten-filled crackers, cookies, etc. I had someone toss me a mandarin orange and then I peeled it and ate it without washing my hands or anything. People were also passing...
  6. The Gluten Free Epicurean (633 East 15th Ave in Vancouver) has great reviews, and I believe its food items are also often free of other common allergens like dairy and soy. I have not personally been there, but it's where the Vancouver Chapter of the Celiac Foundation holds their meetings. Rocky Mountain Flatbread has gluten-free options for most of its...
  7. CanadianK - do you know if it was your doctor that didn't put the tests on the form even though she said she would, or maybe it was the lab that just didn't do them? I'm in Canada (BC) and the lab won't do certain celiac tests and also has certain rules about what can be ordered together. My doctor was super willing to order any celiac tests I wanted and...
  8. AnnaChristine18 - how is treating your SIBO going? There are a few things I've come across that are supposed to be beneficial for SIBO, beyond diet modifications. One is making sure you have adequate stomach acid levels, which ensures that food is properly broken down rather than fermenting and feeding bad bacteria. Stomach acid also helps kill bad bacteria...
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions! There are some good ideas here
  10. Hi, I'm currently completing a gluten challenge and will probably be getting a celiac panel done in a few weeks. However, in the meantime, I have to get my wisdom teeth removed. While recovering, I probably won't be eating much (or anything) with gluten in it, because first I'll be having liquids, then soft things like milkshakes and pudding, etc. So my question...
  11. I wonder if something like this is what happened to my cousin. When she was in grade 5, she started getting really bad migraines. One time in class she got one, and then her speech started slurring and one side of her face got all droopy. She was taken to hospital but they didn't find anything. It happened a second time too. My cousin has never been tested...
  12. Wow lots of replies and lots of information to look into. This seems to have sparked a bit of a debate. thank you all for your replies! In any case, I need to get tested properly so I can rule it in or out.
  13. kareng - I'm being tested because I have symptoms such as fatigue, deficiencies such as iron and vitamin d that are dropping despite supplementation, bloating, high thyroid antibodies, sudden problems with dental enamel despite excellent oral hygiene (and I'm only 22 years old), and so on. NatureChick - that's interesting about it being an opiate peptide...
  14. Hi all, I have not been diagnosed with celiac disease, I'm just in the process of pursuing further testing. So right now I have gluten at breakfast and in the evening. However, on the days that I have extra gluten in addition to that - for example, having a fair amount at dinner as well - I notice that in the evening I feel really good and really calm. Is...
  15. Hi, I was wanting some advice on my test results. In Sept. 2013, I had the TTG IgA test done and my result was: <2 (reference range: <20) However, I had been gluten-free for 2 years at that time so obviously that result is not going to be accurate. Then I had the TTG IgA test done again in May 2014, after eating the equivalent of at least ...
