  1. Before I went gluten-free, it would happen within seconds of eating gluten. That's one thing that happens as soon as I get glutened. However, excessive dairy does it to me, too, still.
  2. mlana- what is your son's total immunoglobulin IgA? You always have to view this in relation to other test results. If the total IgA is deficient or on the low end, it skews the test results, raising the IgG count and keeping the IgA's down.
  3. Tim, I agree w/Jersey Angel. Since you were diagnosed Celiac by biopsy, then Celiac is definitely behind your symptoms. I have/had the same thing going on. Just after eating, I would feel instant reflux felt as "flutters" in my esophagus. It felt like palpitations or bubbles, and then my breathing would feel restricted. After 5-6 days, for the most part...
  4. katshow, I also have breathing difficulty associated with gluten ingestion, and I am NOT allergic- IgE mediated) to any foods. Last time I was glutened it felt like my throat was closing up and I couldn't talk very well. Do you have asthma? I was recently diagnosed- and I think it's due to gluten. Apparently., I am having bronchial spasms associated...
  5. Sawyer, I'm new at this and struggling, too! Most of the time gluten makes me feel horrible, so I am sometimes afraid of it and treat it like poison. However, I will admit--for the second time- I purposely ate gluten. I was at a wedding and the chef said the chicken only had salt, pepper, and garlic in it, so I gave it a shot. While I was eating it,...

    ARCHIVED Shakiness

Yeah- I feel jittery, too when glutened.
  7. BLUNTED VILLI?? To my knowledge, that's the first stage of Celiac. Given your genetics and family incidence, looks like you have Celiac.
  8. My blood work was only slightly positive (Elevated AGA IgG), and my doctor did both an endo and colonoscopy. The bio came back negative, but she says she is surprised b/c she has pictures of damage (but also says she can't clearly diagnose me with Celiac). I'm waiting for a second opinion on the biopsy itself. I'm glad I did the biopsy-even though it...
  9. I've had low Potassium on 2 different blood tests. I believe it is from malabsorption. I'm also intolerant to bananas, if that means anything. At the time of testing I was eating bananas daily so I don't know why I came back low. My friend is a nurse and she says that Potassium, since it is an electrolyte, is something that is abnormal or more of a big...
  10. Thanks for this thread. I'm having problems with joint pain, too. I definitley think I notice it with glutening. It is primarily in the knees, but sometimes my elbows. When I wake up in the morning it feels like a tight, sharp stabbing pain/ache in the knees. Last night, it seemed to get worse after I ate, (but not gluten) and I woke up with aching knees...
  11. Carolita- i also had only a slighltly elevated IgG, very symptomatic, and the dr saw damage during my endoscopy. the + bloodtest doesn't mean you have celiac, but it does mean you are gluten intolerant. even though the other tests may be more specific, you could still have celiac. i did not have anemia but i had a b-12 deficiency; the MCV was elevated...
  12. Ditto. That's my question, too. If the body is treating it "like gluten" could it also be damaging your intestines "like gluten", or is it just producing the symptoms without the damage?
  13. FitNut- Where did you read about eliminating corn syrup? I would be interested in reading that!
  14. I have a huge problem with HFCS, corn syrup, and now corn oil, I think. This has been since pre-diagnosis. I did not test intolerant to corn, either. Did your doctor tell you to go off corn syrup, or do you have problems with it? You could be having a cross-reaction, or you could be getting glutened.
  15. I read on another website that CORN is involved in cross-reactivity? (soy, casein, corn, oats) The light is finally coming on! Before being diagnosed, I was reacting SEVERELY to High Fructose Corn Syrup- figured it was the sugar content, or the fructose. Well- I few times I got SEVERE reactions from Trader Joe's chicken taquitos (CORN tortillas)........
  16. Before I found out about the diagnosis of gluten intol, I seemed to get frequent "24 hr" or a few day long "stomach flus" with a very low (98.8-99.4ish) grade fever. These seemed to happen about once a month or so, or once every 2 months (more frequently than other people) and I even had it happen for the first time gluten free about a week ago- Nausea upon...
  17. jersey angel- i just saw an allergist, too, and i was just diagnosed with bronchial spasms due to reflux, as well as asthma. it's definitely the gluten that causes the severe (not helped by meds) reflux which triggers these bronchial spasms.
  18. I think that's telling that you DO have the gene that those in the 5% have. Given your symptoms, your Enterolab testing (atleast you had a positive tTg which is more Celiac specific, right?) and what the doctors are saying- I'd run with Celiac. You could very well be in that 5%. Those 5% people are still out there SOMEWHERE, and I believe you are one of...
  19. Someone mentioned an anti-spasmodic......can you share? What is the name of it? I want that- yeah- I feel like someone is poking my stomach from the inside- like I haven't eaten in a week......
  20. For me the worst is the anxiety/panic/difficulty breathing/reflux/chest bubble symptoms(looks like I'm in the minority here) and 2)brain fog/fatigue. I'd also like to add: 3)the fact that I get symptoms at all when I am adhering, to the best of my knowledge, to a gluten-free diet 4) that the "glutening" seems to last for about 5-7 days 5)explaining it...
  21. It's hard not knowing for sure. Sometimes I wonder if it is something else entirely, though I have improved SO MUCH gluten free. My GI said that she definitely sees disease in my small intestine- though she wants to rule out bacterial overgrowth, intestinal lymphoma, and maybe crohn's I think she said. My blood tests also were borderline positive-(positive...
  22. Exactly- me too Rachel. I have been a waif my whole life. I remember in High School at McDonalds I would eat 3 cheeseburgers and fries every day! It makes me wonder how long I've had this *gluten* problem. At 5'8'' I only ever weighed 125 when I was about 20 (I'm 31), and since then I had shrunk to 98 lbs. And they tell me they cannot *confirm* that...
  23. rusla- so it seems like the diet is working for you? That's good. You are losing pounds that you gained, right? I'm glad at least that I seem to have stopped losing weight since starting the diet. During the time you gained weight, did you feel hungrier and thus ate more? Rachel- so then the gluten made you gain weight? do you think that...
  24. Before diagnosed w/ gluten intol. I weighed 107 for a long time. All of a sudden, I went up to 115 pounds (gaining weight for me has always been extremely hard so this is significant). It stayed there for about 2 weeks and then I started suddenly losing- down to 98 in 6 months. Since going gluten-free I've gained 3lbs. Just wondering- did anyone else...
