ARCHIVED How Bad Is Wheat In Shampoo?
slpinsd replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I use Paul Mitchell (has wheat in it), and I haven't had a problem. Honestly, I haven't even got around to checking out my shampoos/cosmetic products yet. I guess I should do that when I run out of this one- I'll get something gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia (megaloblastic Anemia) And celiac disease
slpinsd replied to Robix's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also had a severe vitamin B-12 deficiency, and I am on injections. I do NOT have pernicious anemia, though. Testing B-12 levels is not enough to diagnose Pernicious Anemia. Correct that pernicious anemia is where you lack the intrinsic factor to absorb B-12. Your doctor would have to test anti-parietal cell antibodies to see if you have Pernicious Anemia... -
ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hmm.......none of that in there. ingredients: brown sugar, evaporated cane juice, garbanzo bean flour, potato startch, semi-sweet choc chips (sular, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, soy lechithin, vanilla), tapioca starch, WHOLE GRAIN WHITE SORGHUM flour, fructose, fava bean flour, xanthan gum, baking soda, sea salt, natural vanilla powder. that whole... -
ARCHIVED Aauggghhhhhhh Doctors!
slpinsd replied to moonunit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Aw man, we can all empathize with you. I'm pretty sure I don't have the full blown villious atrophy either, but we can still have Celiac! I hope the diet works for you-it has for me (except for mysterious glutenings!) I had a horrible appointment with an endocrinologist a few months ago. I wrote a 4 page letter to him, explaining and backing up what I... -

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
slpinsd posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had an appt w/my Naturopath and I told her how I believe I was glutened from Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Chip Cookie mix. I have had instant reflux and breathing difficulty after eating the cookies. There is another post on the gluten-free Product Thread. Anyhow, she said that I may be experiencing CROSS-REACTIVITY- where there is something in the ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill?
slpinsd replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm so confused! It's hard for me to pin down what REALLY is the cause of the mysterious "glutening" symptoms. Is it cross-contamination? Gluten that really is in the product? Or something else that I'm intolerant to in it that is causing the symptoms? Is it really "greasy foods" (I put extra oil in the cookies) that causes my reflux, and since I went... -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill?
slpinsd replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
YES! I am so glad that I found this post. I believe I was just glutened by the gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix-gotta toss that whole batch Also, I have had symptoms after using their gluten-free Pancake Mix, as well. Unless it's something else I'm reacting to? I haven't had a problem with any other of their products, including the gluten-free... -
GI JANE- I am PRAYING to weigh what you do. I am 5'7'' and I weigh 100 lbs. 125 is the most I ever weighed, I would be happy to be at 110. All in all, I lost about 20 lbs due to this thing- I've gained 3 lbs in 2 mos. going gluten-free. Don't worry, you look great! I think some people say that because they are just jealous.

ARCHIVED Asthma
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep- it's Asthma- got diagnosed this morning. My % was so low on the machine they could not do the testing they were going to do and she diagnosed me with Asthma on the spot. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis.....
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Claire: what meds are you on for it? i was on flagyl, tetracycline, tagamet. those DO cause D, but your weight loss could be from celiac? were you losing weight before? i will get a breath test, soon! -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis.....
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
the h.pylori treatment was not fun. the flagyl tastes nasty, and I had D the whole time, funny thing, i did lose weight during that time, but i don't know if that's' the treatment or the celiac. haven't been retested yet but the dr thinks i probably still have it. -
ARCHIVED Allergist And Food Allergy Scratch Tests
slpinsd replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had allergy skin scratch testing, too. I'm allergic to dustmites, ragweed, and CANDIDA. I don't get it? Don't we have candida in our body? I supposedly have candida because of gluten intolerance. How can I be allergic to CANDIDA? -
ARCHIVED Poll: How Many Of You Had Elevated Liver Enzymes?
slpinsd replied to trents's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine were in the normal range- but I did have elevated platelets- which I was told was due to inflammation. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis.....
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes- I was dx w/h. pylori too- i think related to gluten sens. causing increased intestinal permeability- and treated for that. I felt better after the antibiotics, but seriously, I think gluten-not h.pylori was causing all my symptoms. -
I, too, had horrible night sweats which have resolved after going gluten-free. I would wake up completely soaked, wet hair, sheets, and all. I guess that anything auto-immune (Celiac) can cause night sweats.

ARCHIVED Those Of You With Positive Biopsy......
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for your input. I went back to the GI doc, and she showed me the pictures showing mild scalloping of the folds. She said it wasn't "classic" damage, but it looked like damage. My biopsy was negative. She won't dx me with Celiac b/c of that, but I'm getting a second opinion on the biopsy! -
ARCHIVED Other Food Allergies/intolerances Or Minor Glutening?
slpinsd replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
cassidy, your symptoms sound VERY similar to my experiences. Before figuring out that it was gluten intolerant- after I ate, I would get an almost immediate pressure/pounding/spasming in my chest, and felt very jittery, shaky, anxious/panicky. I could not figure out if this was GERD, anxiety (except only happened after I ate) or some sort of immediate... -
ARCHIVED Not Understanding Lab Work
slpinsd replied to mbg98's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't seen any testings like yours, usually, I see antitTg antibodies done. I would ask your doc for clarification? Blood tests are not always accurate, and if you did have a positive biopsy, that is important. What were the findings from your biopsy? What is the response to the gluten-free diet? -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis.....
slpinsd replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yes- i've been gluten free for 2 months with positive results. The iffy thing is whether or not I have evidenced intestinal damage -

ARCHIVED Diagnosis.....
slpinsd posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Finally met with the GI who saw the flattening on my endoscopy, but the biopsy report was negative. She said that she was surprised to see those findings, and showed me the mild scalloping looking folds of the small intestine pictures. It's been 2 months since my biopsy- but if I would have gone in earlier (nurse told me not to), and gone over it with her... -
So, I went in for allergy skin testing today.....found I am allergic to dust mites and a few other things, plus.....highly likely that I have ASTHMA! I failed the breath test and am going in for more extensive testing. Ironically, the "difficulty breathing" that I had, right along with anxiety, depression, adrenal exhaustion, reflux, weight loss, D, lack...

ARCHIVED Please Help! What Does This Mean?
slpinsd replied to Jocelyn357's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jocelyn, given your test results, it is highly likely you have Celiac, although yes, Enterolab does not diagnose Celiac. I would take your test results and review them w/your doctor, preferrably a good GI, and get a biopsy done before you go Gluten Free, if you are looking for a solid diagnosis. If you are gluten-free during the biopsy, the damage that... -
ARCHIVED What Was Your Total Immunoglobulin Iga?
slpinsd posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just wondering: What are people's results for total immunoglobuin IgA? Mine was: Immunoglobulin IgA 108 (normal is 70-300) (In the low end) Wondering if this affects the total results: Antigliadin IgA 14.54 (.01-20) Antitransglutaminase, IgA 12.54 (0-20)
