  1. I cannot tolerate soy at all. It's gotten so bad, I can't tolerate "regular" toothpaste. First, it was just hives. Now, I'm having attacks where I can't breathe. The most recent one, I really thought I was going to be a goner for sure. (I've renewed my rx for the EPI pen after that one...) And this was a drug reaction, in which I discovered that one of the...
  2. Thanks - this is very helpful, and kind of a real no-brainer. Why didn't they suggest this instead of having me be like a lab rat????? Thanks!
  3. Sometimes, family just don't "get" it. They don't suffer from food intolerances, they don't know how it is/feels/etc. for whatever reason (mostly selfish reasons...) and may think you are the biggest freak. You just have to take care of yourself, if it means bringing your own food... Food shouldn't be the main event, anyways. At my wedding, my parents...
  4. Anybody know of one??? I was prescribed Sprintec, but reacted very badly to it - apparently one of its ingredients is derived from soy oil. Now, I was given Kariva. I asked the pharmacist if it had soy in it, and was basically told that he didn't know and if I react, it does. Yea - I don't like taking something not knowing, and I also my reactions are extremely...
  5. Do you know if the Kariva is soy-free, too? I reacted terribly to the Sprintec, and that had soy oil in it.... and now the doc prescribed Kariva for me.
  6. Help. I am extremely allergic to soy - I cannot tolerate a molecule. I suffer terrible consequences. Anyways, I need to know what medications are soy-free. Is there a website like this for people with soy allergies? Specifically, I need to know a soy-free birth control (I am taking it for reasons other than birth control.) I was taking Sprintec, but...
  7. I feel like I am becoming a total obsessive-compulsive freak, always having to check and recheck things before eating, suspecting things having gluten when it is not very clear that it does, always on high alert.... Now I'm reacting - I think- to the stupid Whole Foods 365 Chicken Broth that was God-awful tasting, and which I later discovered is just some...
  8. And another thing, before I forget again - do not eat the sushi at Marks and Spenser. My husband did and was sick for 3 terrible days. Luckily, we were home by then.
  9. Hi there, I appreciate that food is not wasted overseas; I think it is great. I think food over here in the US is sold/"manufactured" too cheaply with inferior ingredients. It was really refreshing and joyful to find simple foods in the UK that were very tasty and good for you. However, $11 for a tiny bowl of grilled octopus with no side veggies or potatoes...
  10. I've just returned from travelling to London. I brought food with me going, and returning: I took a bag of cashew nuts with raisins, a disposable plastic container (from Whole Foods...) of a salad with chicken, a sandwich (with gluten-free bread, of course) and a peach (I think) going there; returning I brought a pre-packaged container of salad from Marks...
  11. I'd just like to start off by saying, that no matter how hard you try to be gluten-free, it is inevitable you will eat some gluten when eating out at some point. You can only do the best that you can do... That being said, there is gluten-free food to be found in London. One sure bet to find gluten-free foods for sure is at the Marks and Spenser stores...
  12. I think there is wheat flour in the paprika. Anyways, on with the list - any food that lookd to be gluten-free but gave you problems. I'm going to add Penzy Spices. I believe some of their spicves has flour in it, even if they claim it doesn't. I know I reacted. (Incidentally, I only react to gluten or peanuts, so my list of intolerances is...
  13. Just wanting to start a list of foods that look like they may be gluten-free from the ingredients list, but from actual experiences, seem not to be and have caused problems. I am going to start the list off with: Wellshire Farms' Primo Naturale sliced and dried Hot Chorizo. The ingedients list has "spices" listed. I have reacted very terribly...
  14. I usually eat white rice, with no problems. I keep reacting from various brands of rice pasta, or so I believe, all of them having rice bran. Someone else, from another forum on the matter, suggested that it could be the rice bran that is the culprit.... So I'm just wondering.
  15. Does anyone know exactly why rice bran can be a problem? I'm not improving, and the only thing I can think of is the rice bran in the rice pastas I've been eating. I react everytime I have a pasta meal, it seems. What is rice bran anyways? Would that entail brown rice as well?
  16. I buy the plain 365 brand yogurt and add my own jam plus a lil' sugar for flavoring... I have not had any problems with their plain yogurt. I think it tastes really good, and it's a really nice, thick and creamy yogurt.
  17. I think that Whole Food's ground Ginger that they sell in their bulk section has wheat flour in it. Just thought I'd pass it along as an FYI... I also think the spices from Penzy's Spices may have wheat flour in it as well. I'm going to be giving them a call.
  18. I react terribly to quinoa, millet and amaranth. I cannot tolerate any of them. I did a little research to see what exactly is their gluten-free status, and I found a website that does state there is no definitive answer. It's most likely to be gluten-free, but not really completely proven to be. I stay away from them, which can be frustrating because other...
  19. I've replaced the pasta with a different brand, Grandma M-something (I'll have to get the full name later - it's a company in Wisconsin operated by a woman who has celiac and is extremely food sensitive, or so I have heard. She has the best corn chips I have ever tasted, by the way) for a little while with the usual pasta toppings, and I didn't have any more...
  20. No, I haven't had any problems with rice... I eat a lot of rice with no problems.
  21. No, I make my own "sauces" from scratch, using canola oil and various vegetables and/or cream.... It just seems like everytime I eat that brand of pasta, I am reacting to it now, or so it seems. I've only noticed this to to happen in the past 2 months.
  22. I seem to be having adverse reactions to the Tinkyada brand of gluten-free rice pastas lately, which hadn't been a problem in the past for me. Has anyone else been having problems? I am wondering if they've changed something with the manufacturing process or the ingredients being used or what???
