I was upset last night that Gina got booted. I loved her spirit, she really loved being there. Her video at the end made me tear up. I know this happens every year so hopefully this is the one big surprise. I'll stop watching it when Sanjaya stays before anyone else that were in the top two catagories last night. Really that is starting to get to me. I suppose thats what the intention is and I shouldn't let it bother me.
Hopefully next week the song choice will be better.

I agree it was boring last night, I had a hard time paying attention. My husband loved it because he's a Tony Bennet fan. I'll have to play him and Frank Senatra whenever I'm making a big Italian meal.
I agree Guhlia that Blake was not his best the last two performances. He has such a big following that he can get by with it though. He has a velvet voice but not a big range. He'll tend to sing safe songs and compensate with his moves. But he's cute.
Phil Stacey has a better voice yeah but he doesn't play to the audience. Not even to the judges and I think that's what Randy J was trying to say last night. I mean singing to your wife please, you have to make the audience believe your the one who's being sung to. Sung or Sang whatever.
Melinda is such a good singer but the minute she stops she just looks like a insecure child. The opposite with Lakisa she scares me. She looks like she could stare holes in you. I hope she goes soon. They're not saying it but I think she's hard to get along with. Notice that she never takes advice from any of the guest singers? Last night she did it her way instead of Tony's advice. He told her to hit the big note and end it and she went ahead and did the little do hickey thing.
Jordin and Gina were good. I like em both. I still think Jordin will do better... just thinking about all the other rockers in the past they always get voted out right toward the end. What was he's name (Chris?) last year he was better then Gina but people voted for Taylor Hicks. (doesn't matter anyway because Kathrine Mcphee out sells Taylor in C.D. sales)
The worse of the performances goes to Haley though. Her voice is bad she doesn't move well. She was all jerky last night and made a funny face. She's gotta go. I think Chris and Phil will be on the bottom also. It depends on if Sanjaya is getting symphony votes or is getting the votes from the worst singer campaign going on, but the judges purposely didn't say anything last night just so he wouldn't get the symphony vote.

I was doing some research on high fructose corn syrup this weekend since its in everything the worse being soda which is whats getting children in trouble with weight and diabeties. I was amazed how bad it is for the liver. Not only that but just "fructose" which I always thought was better then table sugar. Well here's the results of a study that I copied and pasted.
" Sucrose is composed of glucose and fructose. When sugar is given to rats in high amounts, the rats develop multiple health problems, especially when the rats were deficient in certain nutrients, such as copper. The researchers wanted to know whether it was the fructose or the glucose moiety that was causing the problems. So they repeated their studies with two groups of rats, one given high amounts of glucose and one given high amounts of fructose. The glucose group was unaffected but the fructose group had disastrous results. The male rats did not reach adulthood. They had anemia, high cholesterol and heart hypertrophy--that means that their hearts enlarged until they exploded. They also had delayed testicular development. Dr. Field explains that fructose in combination with copper deficiency in the growing animal interferes with collagen production. (Copper deficiency, by the way, is widespread in America.) In a nutshell, the little bodies of the rats just fell apart. The females were not so affected, but they were unable to produce live young.
"The medical profession thinks fructose is better for diabetics than sugar," says Dr. Field, "but every cell in the body can metabolize glucose. However, all fructose must be metabolized in the liver. The livers of the rats on the high fructose diet looked like the livers of alcoholics, plugged with fat and cirrhotic."
Wow that just amazes me. I had no idea.

I think with every holiday I go through sugar cravings. Now with Easter all you see is the pretty Easter candies and brings back memories of Easter baskets and fun. Its seems the only time I buy a bag of snicker bars are during one of the holidays. Memories will bring up cravings for a certain dessert or sweet and of course you associate the fun along with how good it tasted.
Another thing sugar and sweets do is give you that surge of energy and calms down the nerves because of the serotonin it produces. Alcohol does the same thing and its why I would make myself a drink around 4:00 every afternoon to get the energy it would take to make supper. A habit I'm happy to say has left me.
If you think you might have a problem with control I wouldn't have it around. How do you feed a little of anything to a monster right? Or make it hard to get seconds like go to Baskin Robbins for a cone and get into your car and drive away.
I find if I'm eating a cookie and know that there's a whole bag where I left it in the pantry I'm not even enjoying the cookie cuz I'm thinking about just getting one more. If I had no possibility to get another one I then can enjoy that one cookie.
Its all a game sometimes.

Hi Goodlife,
Its true those with gastrointestinal reactions to gluten run very high in lactase deficiency because of the damage that has occurred to the upper intestinal tract. The classic reaction to dairy products due to lactase deficiency is gastrointestinal pain, diarrhea, and anxiety attacks. The anxiety attacks occurs because in the presence of low lactase, lactose ferments and produces lactic acid, which is absorbed into the blood and consequently ties up calcium magnesium.
There is a condition called galactosemis in which the liver is unable to adequately change galactose into glucose. The first step in the metabolism of lactose is to split lactose into glucose and galactose. The second step changes the galactose into glucose. So it could be a problem with the liver and usually its inherited. For some reason chedder cheese can be consumed for those with galactosemis.
I would wait for awhile before trying dairy again. It takes one to two years for an adult to heal and sometimes people never regain a total healing. But give it another try every so often.

I have sensitivities to everything it seems but I have to eat and decided that I can't afford to lose anymore weight, so after reading a book titled "Brain Allergies" by William Philpott, M.D. I decided to do the rotation diet. I'm having corn but then won't have it again for 7 days. I'm alittle more relaxed with it then he is though. He won't have you eating anything from the same family for 7 days. So that would mean corn is in the grass family along with rice, millet, oats and sorghum. I would have to wait 7 days just to have rice and then 7 days to have oats. Where I'll have corn one day and rice the next. I do recommend the book, its in paperback and explains so much more. He really believes in what Hippocrates said "Leave your drugs in the chemist's pot if you can heal the patient with food."
It does talk about how doctors put so many on tranquilizers and antidepressants for example where there is dangerous side affects when many times allergies are responsible for behavior, or reactions to chemicals or inhalants. There are times you'll have to totally eliminate a food and other times if you just rotate them and having that break in between is enough.
I find that is true for me with corn, tomato, legumes and dairy especially. I can have them but not to often. Its the frequent contact with these foods that will do me in. I don't want to be as intolerant to these foods as I am to gluten so I'm finding this to be my answer.
Hope this is all it is for you so I thought I'd pass this along,

I know french fries are high in sulfites. The reason being they would turn brown once peeled and exposed to the air. Some people will have a sensitivity to sulfites if you want to do a google search on it. I can't recall all the foods high in sulfites other then wine, greens in a salad bar (so they stay fresh looking, dried fruits, and I believe lunch meats.

Final three? I like Gina's style, but I think she needs more training. Lakisha is good, but lacks a interesting stage persona. I also think Melinda is awesome, but I don't know if she will pull in the votes. My favorites is Blake and Jordin. They are both hugely talented, good looking, and have awesome stage presence. I don't vote. I can hardly stay awake until 10:00 pm to watch ( I have a kid who's internal wake up clock is 5:30am, and it adjusts it's self back to 5:30am when the time changes
).
I think the final three will be Jordin, Blake, and Melinda. Melinda has a great voice but her acting like "little ol me?" everytime you compliment her is getting old. There's no question she sings good though. Jordin is funny when she tries to squash down when standing next to Ryan.
I think Ryan gets annoyed with it. Blake would be my no. 1 choice. He's uniquely different then any male contestant that has gone this far in the completion. I think he's also liked by people who are older as well as the younger viewers.

Hmmmmmm....... Verrrrry interesting.......
I wonder if perhaps my cravings have to do with the fact that one of the major employers here in Bowmanville is:
Open Original Shared Link
Here's a stab at what it could be, if your soil is low in PH you add lime right. Adding lime raise the PH. If your area is rich in lime maybe thats what your body is craving by going down in the basement and breathing it in. I've even heard of adding ashes to the soil in place of lime all though its not as good, well you also crave ashes.
So could it be your body PH is low? Low is 0-6 which is acid, 6-14 is alkaline. Maybe its your body telling you to neutralize your PH levels.
Does that make any sense?

Gail, thats not entirely true (no offense, its a subject I know a lot about), it really depends where you live and where the crops come from... (Honestly this is my specialist subject if I ever had to go on a TV quiz thing and my undergrad geology dissertation)....
The USGS publishes maps... without boring you with the geology, the US has some very monotonous geology... the dustbowl for instance is actually caused by too much selenium, the soil has so much its toxic and crops grown in it are toxic...
It depends massively where you live... where tyour crops come from etc. Selenium is one of those trace elements that has a very low tolerance between what you need, an ideal amount and a toxic amount...
If you phone your local state USGS office you should be able to ask someone about your area... don't just assume and take selenium suppliments because its quite dangerous...
You would of course have a better understanding of this subject then me but I'm just repeating what I've been told for years. If you live in a cold climate during the winters you don't depend on just your area for fruits and vegetables. I just did a quick reference check on areas and found this:
SELENIUM
The selenium content of our food depends entirely upon the selenium content of the soil where the food was grown. However, nearly a third of the United States and three Canadian Provinces have soil that is seriously selenium deficient. This is unfortunate because selenium is a powerful antioxidant (a substance that prevents tissue damage from oxidization) and therefore is one of the best cancer-blocking agents. Selenium offers important protection against heart disease, as well. In fact, there is evidence that selenium can actually heal already damaged cells.
Additionally, selenium plays an important role in cleansing your body of heavy metal poisoning, such as may occur from exposure to mercury (as in dental fillings) or lead (as in old paint). It does this by speeding up the rate of heavy metal excretion in the urine and feces. Selenium also enhances your immune system in a powerful way and has been found to be very beneficial to chronic allergy patients.
Selenium is not only an effective tool against cancer and heart disease, but is effective in preventing the onset of other chronic degenerative diseases such as premature aging, multiple sclerosis, diabetes and arthritis.
Geographic locations in North America where the soil is low in selenium are Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Western New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Washington, Rhode Island, Oregon, New Jersey, Vermont, the Carolinas, Florida, West Virginia and Connecticut. The Canadian provinces of Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba are also selenium deficient.
I agree you should not rely on selenium suppliments and even be careful on eating to many brazil nuts but one or two aday is a great insurance policy.

Remember the old clips of the beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan show and girls in the audience where crying and passing out? I think thats why they had the cameras on that little girl crying. I thought it was so cute. She was just overwhelmed by it all.
I thought Lakisha totally blew it last night. I didn't like her last week either but it was tolerable. I don't think she going to be down to the last 3. Melinda is better and one will edge out the other when it comes down to the end.
I wish Phil would wear hats and he would get edgier. He's got the voice but he's losing the confidence. I'm afraid he'll be at the bottom this week along with Sanjaya and Stehanie.
I don't like her anyway. It's like she trying to be Beyonca to me.
I loved Jordin and Blake last night the best. I thought last night was alot of fun. I love the 60's for music. I wish someone would of picked one of Petula Clark's songs. She's the one who sings Downtown. Isn't she the one who sings "The son of a Preacher Man"???? Anyway can't wait to see the results.

I forget what t.v. show had this deficiency as a story line. It was years ago and I think social workers were trying to prove child neglect because this girl keep eating dirt and garbage stuff.
Does it help to take mineral supplements? I know we're all deficient in selenium and brazil nuts are about the only thing that's full of it. Basically our soils are depleted of selenium and so we're not getting it in our diets.

I know that MSG can give you headaches and stuff, but is it gluten free? I see a lot of people on here say they dont eat it. Is it bc it is not gluten free, or bc they just cant tolerate it?
There's a Celiac website which mentioned that a veterinarian, diagnosed with celiac disease, developed a theory about
how celiac disease and the excitatory neurotransmitters glutamic acid and aspartic acid play a role in the damage
caused by this disease.
We have recently found that many persons who report a sensitivity to MSG also report an inability to tolerate wheat
products in general. This seems an odd coincidence until we realize that, grain products have been bred to contain
more and more gluten which is very high in the amount of glutamic acid bound into its protein chains. This fact figures
prominently in this veterinarian's theory on why wheat can be such a problem for many people, and why, perhaps, it
wasn't meant to be in our diet in the first place. See: Open Original Shared Link Advertisement
MSG is on the list of foods for celiac patients to avoid. Wheat is such a good source of glutamic acid, as is soy, and
corn, that MSG is often made from these foods.
You'll like this website, I know a couple of people here have read it.

When I had a case of the yeasty beasties (long before I knew about gluten), I didn't eat anything with yeasts or sugars, and of course things like vinegar where out too. So I didn't eat yeast breads, but still ate baking powder biscuits. I avoided all fruits for quite awhile, as well as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, many salad dressings, etc. I also took caprylic acid capsules for a short time (I think I only went through one or two bottles). Other than that, my diet was the same, including loads of pasta and other carbs such as rice, potatoes, etc. So I don't think it is necessary to avoid all carbs. As I understand it, the yeast thrives on sugars, and though carbs can be converted into sugars, that's not such a large food source for the yeast if at all. I guess it depends on where the carbs are converted, and what types of sugars they get converted into. I haven't looked that up so I'm guessing based on experience and some knowledge of the digestive system.
The recovery began almost immediately, and I was feeling far better in just the first two weeks alone. The cavings for yeasted breads was quite intense at first, but controllable. I'd have to say it was probably about two or three months before the recovery leveled off, but various symptoms continued to disappear for perhaps years after that. I would point out though that my consumption of wheat was reduced because of the avoidance of yeasted breads. I had been eating loads of that stuff, so some of the improvement I attribute to consuming less gluten.
There is differences of opinions on what diet to follow. Some say starches are o.k. and others say no especially in the beginning. I think once you start to feel better you can add brown rice for example. I do believe however yeast thrive on starches because its a source of sugar. I think milk is bad too. Yogurt might be ok if you make it yourself and let it cook for 12 hrs at least maybe longer.
MinxyMandy, The OMG thread in "other tolerances when gluten free isn't enough talks about candida alot. Its very long so don't read it from the beginning. The women are very nice and helpful. Also very knowledgeable.
hope your feeling better. You asked if my skin looks better when I do candida diet and the answer is definitely yes. The skin is another organ of elimination so when your toxic it will use it to get the toxins out. I really don't know whats happening to your eye. I think it might be a separate issue.

Here's a scary one for you:
There is a product called Marmite. It is actually a waste product of industrial brewing, and was once discarded. However, someone eventually decided to offer this to the unsuspecting public as a "food". Marmite has 1750mg of MSG per 100g. That's a higher concentration than any other manufactured product on the planet, except a jar of MSG from the Ajinomoto MSG factory.
The scariest part is that MSG is NOT on the list of ingredients! Even if the stuff was safe, how could anyone justify its omission from the list?
When I buy a package of plain frozen peas for example, the ingredients list "Peas". Obvious yes, but none the less an accurate description of the contents. If you want to assert that MSG is safe, and you are willing to consume it, that is your decision. But if it isn't properly disclosed on the label, the consumer is not being given the information with which to make that decision. Believe anything you desire about any ingredient, but don't hide the ingredient from the consumer. That fact alone draws suspicion, don't you think?
This what angers me also RiceGuy. For instance, and I learned this from Rachel, they spray a chemical called Auxigro on vegetables as a pesticide that has L-glutamic acid in it. Its right in the vegetable and you can't wash it off cuz it remains in the plant itself. There just seems to be alot of cover-up. I don't like it.
I just want to know where I'm safe and not safe with buying my food.

Hi Flower girl..x
I am so down on day 8 of eating gluten I know I sound crazy but Ive been told I have so many different things I just need to know if I have or not. I am really worried that the test is going to be negative even if I have got it!!!
I have tried experiementing and still cutting out the sugar and yeast but as soon as I eat even a ryvita my tum swells up also with milk. Its not just swollen its rock hard and massive..
I feel so up set did you really have canida and get rid of it?? Thanks I need someone to tell me that.
Thats why I am getting in a state as if its celiac and my guts damaged it makes sense that even though I did teh Candida diet 7 months it didnt go!!! So thats why I am hoping it is celiac as it makes sense to me..
But I am worried taht if its negative I will fall apart..as what the bloody hell is it I do feel better on the diet but with candida diet aswell I get so fatigued and thin and start getting down...
When I did the candida diet I only ate rice , fish, meat, some veggies Homeopath said I am allergic to caffine, sweetners, msg, wheat, choclate but she said I am okay with skimmed milk so I was have bio yogurt she said I cant have any fat either.....she said I can have ryvita but that played my tum up so I stopped it...
Also took caprylic acid, acpdillolous, vi B's, Mineral complex, Glutemine, homeopathic antifungal and tried enzymes....
If I havent got celiac do you think I should do candida diet again but with no carbs as I have read that carbs also feed candida what did you do did you cut out all carbs???
I am so sorry going on but I am sitting here day after day trying to find some info to lift my spirts as been like this since August 2005 and starting to feel like giving up ...May be eating gluten is making me more depressed..
I just need to know why I did diet for 7 months and it didnt go.....she said I have an underlying problem..
THANKS SO MUCH FOR REPLYING ..I AM SORRY FOR GOING ON...I havent got any support I think people are bored of me being ill so they stay away even my family ...
Take care x
Candida takes awhile to get under control and it sounds like you have it pretty bad. I don't think it would of went away iin just 7 mo. because you were eating rice and milk. Thats enough to keep them alive and well. Even some vegetables.
I hope you get the diagnoses you want if its celiac but don't be surprised if its not. I've opted to forgo the wheat eating challenge because even though it sounds like I'm celiac I also have the same history of candida yeast. So it may be that one causes the other but who knows what comes first. You might test negative and still get it down the road if you continue to eat gluten.
I understand about getting a doctors excuse for your disability to work tho and hopefully you can get a better understanding of what your dealing with.
It's pretty hard to starve yeast if your eating bread so I guess try the best you can to eat so your bowels move. If fruit makes you constipated then maybe again its too high in sugars. Try and eat so that the only carbs your eating is the wheat you have to eat. Make everything else leafy green vegetables and protein. I have a large green salad with protein for lunch and two vegetables that are low glycemic for supper again with as much protein as I want.
For breakfast I usually have two egg omelette's with veggies and ham or leftover chicken, turkey sausage etc. I gave up on the kefir and yogurt. They just give me problems. I do take a strong probiotic. There are so many anti fungals and I really don't know what is better then the rest.
Stay away from the refined flours. Drink lots of water...that is so important.
Let us know how your doing. I feel bad your going through this and I hope yur getting some support from friends or family. If not don't give up we'll help you get through.

It continues to perplex me as to why so many people think wheat flour is the thing to used for thickening sauces. Seems like the average person isn't aware that professional chefs around the world use arrowroot or cornstarch. I've never heard of any decent chef using wheat flour to thicken a sauce, gravy, stew, etc.
No wonder why people often end up with lumpy gravies. Wrong thickener = poor results.
Sorry if this is a rant.
The reason you don't want to use cornstarch to thicken gravies is because it turns clear. That's ok for some things like maybe to thicken a stir fry, soup or barbecue sauce but in your gravy, traditionally its an opaque creamy color. But that never bothered me. If I'm having company I'm alittle nervous about it though.

Doesnt China have some of the smartest healthiest people alive? I thought MSG was mostly in Chinese food. Is it just in America? I searched all my lables tonight and I didnt see anything that said MSG, hydrolyzed soy protein, or yeast extract. What is it usually in?
I don't know if China has smarter and healthier people then other countries but if they do it might be something as simple as eating less saturated fats or they walk more or get more fibrous vegetables .... who knows but I don't thing its because they eat MSG.
Some people aren't as sensitive to MSG as others. If your celiac or gluten intolerant your gut is already compromised and you'll run the risk of being sensitive to it.
Some of the foods high is MSG are highly flavored snack foods like Doritos that have powdered flavorings on them. All canned soups. Alot of sausages and lunch meats. Canned gravies and broths. Restaurant meals with sauces or seasonings. Even some ice creams and coffee creamers. Alot of boxed/ prepared type foods or canned foods like ravioli, macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper. Tuna fish in broth. T.V. dinners of all kinds. Pizza. Frozen vegetable with flavor packets. Breaded fish or chicken thats frozen.
You get to know it by trial and error. I'll get an immediate reaction to it. Just this morning I had yogurt and felt funny and sure enough it was in that to.
I might cheat on a few of my intolerances but never on gluten and MSG. Its not worth it to me.

Hi, is there such a thing as something all natural to boost energy levels?
I have chronic fatigue and take vit B but I'm so tired everyday its scary, I also have hypothyroid and take synthroid. I'm at the point where its hard to get through the day no matter how much I sleep or coffee I drink
thanks
Something that helped me is taking 200 mgs of SAMe twice a day in between meals. I think I even went up to three times a day for awhile. It really elevate my mood and had lots of energy. Its alittle expensive so I don't take it all the time anymore. I also cut out all grains except alittle brown rice once a week. For some reason I just do better eating the paleo/caveman type of eating. My head gets clear and I'm just never tired when I cut out the grains.

Kris you are so gentle and understanding of your son. It makes me want to cry. He'll be all he's meant to be simply because he's in an environment of love and compassion. I really believe he'll be fine. I'm also glad for this discussion, its been so enlightening.
I always wondered why I attract kids with special needs. For instance about 3 mo. ago I was in barnes and noble with my husband. I went over to the magazine racks and there was a boy about 9 or 10. I could tell he was looking at me and he started up with making noises like someone with tourettes syndrome. Someone then came and got him.
I was over in the music part of the store and he came bounding in looked at me and said "there you are I was looking for you. "
I didn't want to get him into trouble so I didn't say anything back and along came someone again to get him.
This has happened more then once were kids would follow me around. I do know when I'm in a place like a book store my demeanor is happy and I'm clear of all worry and whatever would pull me down. I'm there in the moment and enjoy it.
I try to notice all the little things that comes my way because I never know how God talks me. People never cross your path by happenstance everything happens for a reason.

I have an internet friend, met her years ago, who sees colors over people. She sees it as a gift she has and uses it for the ministry she's in. She's very involved in the ministry and when people are in God's Spirit and being used by God she knows by lights around them that are green. When a false prophet comes or someone is not being used by God but they are using their own might she knows because she see's red lights flashing all over them. You can see this is most valuable because its hard to know the difference expecially upon first meeting people.
Also I don't like hugs from people either. It's just to intimate. I do it because its customary but I tend to hold my breath the whole time. My smell is super sensitive and I can smell everything! I pick up odors like a dog. Its strange but I know the minute my husband hugs me if a woman has hugged him that day. But its not unusual that he'll get a hug because he's with patients all day and when he really helps them they're so happy they hug him.

Cheeses are very high in Amines also if you want to consider that. These foods include dark chocolate, alot of fish and sausages. Amines are a result of protein breaking down. Therefore, aged orvercooked and processed meats are high in amines. Browning, grilling, charring will increase amine levels. Amines increase in ripening fruits that go soft, e.g. bananas, avocado.
I'll react to the overipe bananas, avocado and chocolate. My stomach can tolorate a certain level of the amines in cheese as long as the cheese isn't aged long.

Celiac Leading To Social Anxiety?
in Related Issues & Disorders
Posted
If you've had a panic attack you know how debilitating they can be. For years I've had them and hardly get them anymore since I've been gluten free. I still have strong memories though of where I would get them and the memory itself will trigger one on. I used to have layered hair cuts with highlights which took so long in a salon chair that I decided it wasn't worth the anxiety it took to keep myself calmed down. I have chemical sensitivities so I think just smelling all the chemicals and hearing the sounds of hair blowers over loud people just got to me. I now color my own hair and just get trims since its just one length.
Also about 5 min. into the grocery store I have to go the the bathroom. Not all the time but when its a big store and I have a list with over 20 things on it. It just kicks in the peristalsis movements. I'm anxious in a store but I know I can leave anytime so I don't get to bad.
Alot of this has to do because I didn't understand hypoglycemia. If I'm going into a stressful situation I'll make sure I eat more protein and keep carbs to complex so that my blood sugars stay stable. The worse thing to do would be to have a sugary thing or caffeine. Nuts are good to have handy to munch on.
In a restaurant I'll ask to be seated in a booth along the wall or by a door many times. Maybe looking out the window. Its just makes the experience more enjoyable. Also I've found other foods besides gluten that make me anxious. One of them is potatoes. I'll even have anxious dreams if I have them for supper. I don't know why just an intolerance. Carrots and sweet potatoes also. Maybe you can be aware of what your eating or have a food diary and see if you can make connections.
