  1. @PosterboyOne thing is though I never get heartburn. And this only happens when I've consumed something for consecutive days, like I had the bananas and too many nuts. But if PH has something to do with it then maybe when I'm eating more vegetables and broth that's why I usually feel much better, it's more alkaline. On a ph urine test whenever I'm feeling like this I ALWAYS have a reading towards the acidic part. When I feel better it always goes towards the alkaline level and usually in the ideal level.

Part of it started when I was under high stress in the first place. A few years ago. I couldn't eat as much/well because I was very worried about things. The realization about celiac came later but basically my world fell apart and I've fought but never felt really okay again.

Then at the worst before I knew about celiac disease I was vomitting for days. Now I can eat many more foods but it's still very touchy if I don't strictly eat vegetables, broth, lots of water and small amounts of fats and protein.

I'm scared to take anything artificial. I've only recently been able to take very small amounts of probiotics. Is there no way to repair your stomach acid without taking pills? Would going on a strict alkaline diet help?  I read everything you wrote except the link which I don't know if I can concentrate right now.

    Thank you.

Personally, I would be panicking if my stomach acid were NOT a whole lot more than just “slightly acidic.” You want it to be VERY acidic! The pH of gastric juices is among the most acidic thing there is, and it should be. So there may be something I’m not understanding. Does your stomach feel like it’s burning? Do you have reflux?

I have never taken an antacid, and I caution against their overuse.

Whatever you do, a healthy amount of water should help, I would think.

I don't know, it's probably best described as a lot of bile, sometimes yellow, sometimes green (sorry) and a lot of mucus (sorry_) and when I eventually throw it up  (if it gets to that point) it's burning in my throat, so I equate it with acid. Also because of the term "antacid" I think of it as a lot of acid but I guess it's a lot of bile, mucus and I thought the extra stomach acid produced dealing with whatever food I ate.

I've done the wrong thing though because now I'm in the pain I was dreading, with swollen eyes and everything and really bad depression now and hopelessness. I keep feeling like it's all futile and too late. That however hard I try I can't figure everything out in time to be well.

  3. What are some solo games people like to play? It could be board games, puzzles, online games, card games, or online games played with other people. But not people you know, lol.  Because this happens at odd times so I might be unwell at 2 AM or something. When I'm not well, but well enough to concentrate a small amount, I'd like to have some games or things I can do that don't take a lot of energy or too much thought. I don't mind word games though, or the kind you get from the supermarket. Solve this mystery and that kind of thing.

I'm just looking for ideas, so even larger online games might be fun.

Plus I need to stop aimlessly browsing the internet.  It's not exactly restful.

Oh, I forgot, or any really good types of books you like to read also. I don't need the names but different genres that you find relaxing but not too taxing. I'm not rhyming on purpose, that just describes it best. :P

A handful of chickpeas or some hummas

Hummus is a great idea too. I'd have to just have a little bit at a time. I have none of these things here at the moment, lol. But unfortunately this still happens kind of a lot where I get this acid and never know what to do because most of my food is raw or cooked veg or fruit and that doesn't sound very nice when my stomach is not happy. So I'll get all of these things in my next shopping to have on stand-by.

    Thanks so much.

Got a cold this week end, threw my gut in a wack. been eating nothing but nut meal porridge for the past few days. Base is 2 cups liquid/nutmilk, 2 heaping tbsp coconut flour 2 tbsp almond flour/butter and sometimes add in a tbsp of ground seeds. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly and it thickens up. I sometimes add in additional nutritional yeast and egg white stirring til it thickens up. You can go savory or sweet with it......I use this as I can not handle carbs/sugars. I sometimes water it down with a extra 2 cups water.

Ennis that sounds incredibly good. I'd have to experiment. I haven't tried nutritional yeast. I've been scared of it mainly because I don't understand yeast except in baking. It all sounds super wholesome though. This digests pretty well then? For some reason this sounds like it could be a Native American dish. I'd like to try it sometime.

Alka Selzer. The combination of aspirin and bicarbonate takes about 15 minutes or so to calm my gut. Followed by whatever food I tolerate. Cream of Rice is a good choice. Mung bean glass noodles have a low glycemic index and is great in chicken soup. I use No Salt Chicken Broth and add Tamari (no wheat soy sauce), a sheet of Sushi seaweed (iodine for healing) dipped in the soup then cut up, mushrooms, scallions, parsley, etc. thin sliced, mung bean noodles, 3 ounces or so of a protein like shrimp or chicken, and an egg poached in the soup for my evening meal. Been eating it a while, haven't got sick once.

I could get some Alka Selzer. I haven't had any for awhile but it's pretty mild. Cream of rice sounds really nice, I forgot about that. All of the other things sound great too, but I'd probably have to wait a few days to have shrimp or chicken. But I could make it with just broth and then add the other bits the next day. The egg poached in soup sounds amazing for some reason. Thank you.

By the way when I've asked around here for glass noodles before everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. Even at Whole Foods they have no idea what I'm talking about. I think I'll just buy them online. I don't know why they are so mysterious around here.

  7. What about small amounts of apples or sweet potatoes? Not a lot but little bits? It would freeze at some point but they come at dusk and keep returning so I could throw stuff out just before that time. I guess alfalfa is a bad idea too if they've not been having any. So carrots are okay too? I've got tons of produce waste.

Oh, there's deer food? It never occurred to me. I just want to be careful because the info I read said they take 2 weeks to be able to digest a new food (I can relate) but you can put small amounts till they get used to it.

Thank you. I'll give them some kitchen scraps tomorrow and see about deer food.

  8. I have just started noticing some acid in my stomach along with slightly bad feelings, like super early signs of a food reaction/headache. I've been eating bananas lately which I couldn't do at ALL before and that may be what's triggered it. Too much sugar.

What are actions other people might take when feeling this. For example, I could totally fast and drink just water or weak herbal tea until it all gets out of my stomach and everything settles down. Or I could eat something not hard to digest but that will mix with and push stuff through my stomach. I have to be very careful though if I already have acid in there and it's imbalanced. It would have to be something really bland or diluted, like thin vegetable broth or something. I don't use antacids. Other things I'm trying are taking a warm bath for a short time and walking around gently and stretching a little. Trying to rest my mind. (Hard to do because I'll start panicking. )

I mainly wonder about either fasting from food for maybe 8-12 hours or going the other way and having some food to try and get this out of my system.

  9. Does anyone know, apart from corn, what you can do to help the deer in very cold mid winter? Corn apparently is not a good thing to do if they haven't been having it. Plus I'd prefer not to give that stuff to any creature personally. They've been eating bits of bird seed that's on the ground, but I was going to put extra for them but now it seems that's not such a good idea. Or only in very small amounts scattered about the yard so they don't get too much. I read about cutting branches so they hang down but that was for March when they have buds. Would it help in January? I'll do that if it will. I don't know what to do. I feel really bad for them. They go to all the deciduous trees at night and must be eating the bark. There are lots of scraggly trees along the dirt road that I could cut branches from but I'm not sure if it would help them. There's one apple tree. Would some of those branches help? Do they need water?

  10. Well, I could get my fix from baking with wonderful spices as you say. In fact, maybe it is because I have been able to eat more variety that I'm even thinking of scents. I put a teeny bit of curry in my food recently and it was so amazing to smell. (I used to live in Indian and Thai restaurants:)

Maybe that really is what it's about . I also sometimes burn beeswax candles and love the smell of those. Or there are these natural bayberry candles that are really mild but nice but they are really expensive.

Your homemade cologne doesn't sound weird to me. Maybe I'll try  just making some bath salts with very small amounts of natural oil, or even lemon oil. Love your idea of just putting some fragrant foods on foil just for the purpose of the aroma. Olive Garden house, haha! Thanks, you've always got great ideas to share. I think I'll try your foil idea and maybe what I really need is just aromatherapy.

  11. Since I've spent a lot of the last year not well (including headaches) and now I have some small repreive at the moment for some reason I'm stupidly missing wearing any fragrances. Maybe because it's Christmas and I've been looking at party clothes and stuff. :PI am normally fragrance free EVERYTHING, including laundry stuff. The most I can handle is Trader Joes lavendar dish soap, lol. But only sometimes. I'm toying with the idea of maybe some kind of very light fragrance. I think it has to be natural though. And it has to be weak. Does anyone know if that exists or is there anything anyone very sensitive to everything on earth can use and be okay?

I'm also thinking about trying a few tiny drops of essential oil in a large container of bath salts for the bath. I long to spray something on my wrist but I'm afraid. Maybe I need to make my own somehow. I haven't searched online yet. I used to look at Whole foods and places like that and remember seeing some kind of natural stuff. I have to be careful even with essential oils though, which if you think about it are super concentrated. Maybe I'll just have to rub lemons on my wrist. Or strawberries.

  12. By the way, is there any benefit at all to parboiling things before freezing them? I thought it might kill any bacteria. I guess I can google it and stop bothering you. But if you have any thoughts about it I'd like to hear them. Otherwise thanks for all the tips. I'm ready to hit the grocery stores now and see what's going cheap! Instead of designer shoes, which I never gave a toss about anyway, I'm going to be scoping vacuum sealers in the January sales, lol.

  13. Thanks Ennis, I saved those. Oh, so it's not as expensive as I guessed and it doesn't sound hard at all as you describe it. Think I'll give it a shot.

The bread maker is kind of an indulgence and I'm sure I'll bake more just in the oven too. But I space out a lot and I'm afraid I'll just burn stuff in the oven. I know that's what timers are for! I'm for sure going to try out some of your recipes no matter what. I've already saved a bunch for later. c:

GFinDC That sounds great! I LOVE mason jars anyway. That's so cool that you can vacuum stuff inside of them. Okay, looks like I'm getting a vacuum sealer now. I'm under the vacuum sealer spell now.

"vacuum sealer" to build on what Ennis said if you have a Menard's by your Midwest location you can get some items there in the small appliance section- those 11% rebate sales help. I buy canning items,  mason jars there, a dehydrator, they were out of the little camp single burner I hoped to get last time on sale. I did see some vacuum sealers too, I do not recall the price. In time I'll score a vacuum sealer. I use regular size gallon freezer bags for veggies. It is nice as you say to stock up on our veggies over winter, at good sales, peak season etc. I am hoping my herbs make it this season indoors some hate being raised by a Midwesterner.

    Hope you feel well soon-

I think I'll start with the gallon freezer bags just to experiment and then go to Menard's and see if they have any vacuum sealers there on special offer. We do have one around here but I've not been there very much. I'll start looking though if they have good deals. Now that my life revolves around whole foods it's worth it to purchase some things to make it easier. Probably after Christmas would be a good time to get deals?  Or after New Years. I hope your herbs adjust to the inside! I'd love to grow some indoors and was just thinking about this lately. Tell them it will be Spring again in no time. ^.^

Thanks for the well wishes, I appreciate it.

Freezer bags will work but might get freezer burned after 2-6 months. I invested in a vacuum sealer years ago, one of the best investments ever. You can vacuum pack foods and they keep without burning for over a year. Also you can make veggie steam pouches out of them by packing your veggies, seasonings and herbs in a bag and when you want them, just stab some holes in the bag and toss it in hte microwave covered on a plate and steam cook them.

Okay, then I will think about not using freezer bags. Or just doing some in them at first but marking them to eat in the next 2 months. A vacuum sealer sounds amazing but is it hard to figure out? I don't think I have brain cells to do anything complicated. :) But I'll have a look at them. It sounds like a really useful thing, especially for those of us who need to be super organized and eat at home a lot. I guess it's worth the investment for things if they make it easier. I still want to get a bread machine too but haven't done that yet. Thanks Ennis. :)

  16. I need to respond to posts I wrote before and I'm sorry I haven't but I've been unwell again.  Think it was dairy I experimented with:/

But right now the stores are selling acorn squash and also sweet potatoes (that are from the USA) that is VERY hard to get later on. And if I find them they are not nice. Last winter was awful because it was hard to find fresh foods I could eat. I'm in the midwest and we just get really bad food in the winter, even at the most posh stores. Frozen from stores has made me sick and I don't trust it. Frozen stuff rarely has a sell by/expiration date also or it's encrypted or something.

So I've heard that your freezer can have a lot of stuff in it, the more the better. I'm thinking of peeling and making big cubes of both of these - not cooking them - putting them in freezer bags (do they need to be the freezer kind?) and freezing them to use in the coming months. I've never done this. I hope I have the energy to even do this. But I don't know these things:

Will this work in the first place?

Is it okay to freeze it raw? (I'd much rather)

Are freezer bags okay? Or is there something better to use?

How long does something like this last? I'm planning to put them in a pot and just boil them later in water for soup, puree or whatever. Like 3 months? Even that would help cut the winter gap.

Should I add water for any reason when freezing them?

  17. Haha, Ennis that's given me no excuse not to make it now!  I've been faffing around about it but now I think I must try it out! They honestly don't sound too hard to do either.

The Keto Chocolate frosting I think I can make today if the avocados are ripe enough. I just got some maple sugar and maple syrup (I know I'm bad) but I'll look at the sugar free one. I know I don't feel too well if I eat pure sugar but I couldn't help it. I think I have everything else and it sounds super good.

    Thanks so much Ennis!! :)

  18. I remember on here that they are OFTEN grown on something that contains gluten. I watched a video before but I can't remember the details. The thing is they are supposed to be super nutritious and also they just taste really good. They definitely were making me sick about a year ago but I didn't know about the gluten. If I go to the grocery store how can I know?

Are there certain kinds that aren't grown with gluten or do I just need to contact the growers?

I react to any product derived from cows milk but i can eat small amounts of  goats milk cheese, yogurt and kefir. However i cant drink goats milk.I think you should try goats milk kefir, it has a good amount of fat, bilions of probtics :) And butter! Contains small amount of lactose (especially when you make ghee from it)  i buy goat butter  from a certified gluten free brand ( I live in Turkey , though, I dont which brands are gluten-free in your country)

I never heard of goat butter but I guess I could make it if I had raw goats milk. Which I don't at the moment. I'd have to see if anyone has goat's milk kefir, billions of probotics would be good though! I've heard of ghee but I'll have to look up how to make it. It's interesting that you are okay on those items in moderation even though you can't have cow's milk. I'll have a look around locally and see what there is. I think I did read that when you make cheese or butter (or ghee) it greatly lessons the lactose. If I do try it it will be only really small amounts. Anyways, that's what I wondered, that some people can't have cows milk but can have goats milk products. So that's really interesting to me.

If it is a lactose issue it will probably still bother you, early on over 10 years ago with my lactose intolerance I tried the goats cheese, it was not as painful but it still caused issues.
You mention nuts, tried nut butters? I tolerate nut butters and cheese made with nuts very well. Homemade cashew cheese is wonderful but being not a true nit it can be iffy with people. I also make a coconut cheese that is much cheaper, but grainy but works in a pinach. I love a few different cheeses from the store. I have a list of cheese products that are non dairy on the gluten-free food list I composed.

Avocado is also another fat, some people have issues with it but I find it very easy to digest. I love it in all forms and just finished off a big bowl of homemade guacamole, and a batch of avocado icecream I made up. >.< I have a recipe for even making frosting with it. Pairs well with eggs and the grain free toast I use.

Many celiac have dairy intolerance at least starting off due  to damaged villi and not being able to produce enough of the enzymes to break it down, some like me it is life. I talked and convinced myself that dairy is evil with various reading, I meal really why would we suck on another animals teat for its milk for ITS babies ....just does not make sense logically.

I'm not sure if it's lactose. If I experiment and still feel awful from it it might be that. And I want to try making those nut cheeses sometime soon. I ordered some cooking stuff and mesh strainers to try and make almond milk so maybe I'll try making some cheese at the same time. Coconut cheese sounds intriguing. I'll look that up too. Nut butters I over did and then didn't feel so great but that was over 6 months ago so I could try a little and see. I could just start with small amounts. I think too my stomach just couldn't digest fat at all before and it seems like it's a bit better now.

Avocado I can do now! I couldn't before and I'm so glad it's back. But I've only sliced it into salads so far so avocado ice cream and guacamole sound crazy good to me right now. Anything I can make ahead and keep for a few days is good too. Avocado frosting - can I eat that just with a spoon? ^_^

I know the thing about having milk from animals. I don't know if it really helps but when I have had any I try to find somewhere where it's not mass produced. Like there is a family near by that has some goats and you can have milk but they only do that in the spring and summer. The goats seem okay but I know what you mean. And it is pretty weird if you think about it. : (

hi yes yes n yes! its kinda silly but like u said there’s nothing to focus on! are u on east coast?? im always looking for new friends! but anyway its like im in a funk! i had a heart procedure in may then i was diagnosed w celiacs along w my father! so my fam is supportive as well as my physical therapy which i used up! but just got diagnosed w vertigo n they are treating me for that! but ive been screaming for a vacation pr sm to look forward to! i also just turned 40 so myb mid life crisis! lol but i know exactly how u feel!!

Yeah, it's when too many things happen at once and you suddenly have to take all this time and thought to deal with them, plus the stress on top of it. That's a LOT you had in a very short time. I hope things settle down for you soon but I know it takes time to figure everything out. Omg, a vacation in Hawaii or something, lol, then I'll be okay! ^_^ But I think what I'm figuring out is that you have to MAKE your own mini vacations every single day or you go insane. So the suggestions people made above are really good I think to redirect your attention to goals and actively DO something towards them. Even playing games and things like that can be a goal. There's goals inside the game and also the goal of giving your mind a break and treating yourself well. I don't do this at all lately and I'm feeling it. Just spinning round inside my head  and I need to STOP that now. lol. Even though you have so much going on I hope you can find time in the day too to be good to yourself.
