  1. so sorry i didn't post it this morning so i could have stuck you with about 500 extra calories! :-) if you have time to ask Matt or whomever about the gluten-free-safeness of other items, please post!
  2. free foods is a new organic take-out restaurant place in midtown-- 45th st. btwn 5th and 6th. i noticed yesterday that they have not one but THREE different gluten-free baked goods-- a chocolate cake, a brownie, and a chocolate-marzipan thing! i emailed them (through website www.freefoodsnyc.com) to find out what else they have that's gluten free, but...

    ARCHIVED Gastroparesis?

i just found out that i have this too. i had a gastric emptying study due to my symptom complaints (bloating, stomachaches, extreme feelings of fullness). has there been any studies to show association btwn celiac and this disease? i can only find the association to diabetes...
  5. okay, i just lost it and ate 3 huge slices of regular pizza at work. it started with picking the toppings off, then the cheese, then i just LOST it. does this happen to anyone else??? it also happened to me the other day when we had cupcakes at work-- couldn't resist the frosting, before i knew it was binging on the whole lot............ help?
  6. i am a runner and get horrible stomach pain if i run after i've eaten really ANYTHING in the last several hours. i try to exercise first thing in the morning, before breakfast, and that seems to do the trick. i am running my first half marathon on sunday though, so i'm going to try to have a protein bar (or half of one at least) before and cross my fingers...
  7. nope. sometimes they are; sometimes they are not. i think they put wheat starch in there.
  8. i just accidentally glutened myself eating sprinkles with my Carvel ice cream (at work bday party). What can I do??????
  9. be jealous of this-- after spending over $1000 on a plane ticket to get to this town in the middle of nowhere in italy for 4 days, the bride told me, when i asked her about food, that "we aren't catering for any special meals-- including vegetarians-- except for mine of course!" and this was after telling me about the shoes she is having custom made....
  10. i have been to a zillion weddings, and, when it is a friend of mine, i always ask about this. (most people WANT their guests to get to eat, esp as they are paying a lot of $$ to provide food for you whether you want it or not!) generally, i ask (or email) and say that i am SO excited for the wedding, and i'm perfectly happy to bring my own food, but remind...
  11. this is re: the calorie content-- i don't know about joan's, but, in general (unfortunately), gluten-free versions of "normal" stuff tends to be more caloric.

    ARCHIVED Risotteria

    am dying to go!
  13. Crohn's is associated with celiac, so he may think you have both. Or he may think you just have Crohn's now since you are not responding well to going gluten-free. The best way to figure out is to ASK the doctor!
  14. my doctor had me do a follow-up endoscopy after 1 year to see if the gluten-free diet was working. then blood work also every year, but only the one endoscopy.
  15. kaiti, if you look on the website at the ingredients, there is actually wheat in the chicken. (which is grody anyway!)

    ARCHIVED Dos Caminos

did you go to dos caminos? what were you able to order???
  17. the problem with the salads is the chicken has wheat in it. also, the bacon bits' smoke flavoring may contain gluten. the nuts in the fruit and nuts salad have gluten. the dressings are actually all fine-- no gluten.
  18. i actually tried the nana's and the pamela's and thought they were all gross. any other ones to try out there that anyone likes?????
  19. i haven't been there, but sambuca has pasta. it's on 72nd btwn cpw and columbus. did u just move here? coming to visit? just get diagnosed?
  20. i live in nyc and eat out all the time. these places have special gluten-free menus available: risotteria (village), peter's diner (upper east), sambuca (upper west), bistango (murray hill), puff and pao (village), and there are a lot more on these pages, if you look around... most restaurants i have been to are really accommodating too if i explain...
  21. the chocolate kind of smarties have gluten. if you read the ingredients, wheat flour is in them.
  22. has anyone found this gluten-free whoopie pie thing in any starbucks in nyc? i have been searching when i happen to pass a starbucks but haven't found it. and i don't care if it has over 400 calories one little bit! ha!

    ARCHIVED Babycakes Nyc

I have tried a bunch of the cupcakes at babycakes, and I like them. My favorites (in order of preference) are the vanilla w/vanilla frosting, the banana, and the carrot cake ones. I don't really like the chocolate cake ones or the chocolate frosting-- they takes too bitter and cocoa-y to me. they are very pretty, nice cupcakes though. enjoy!
  24. it doesn't matter so long as you don't eat it. big article on this in latest issue of 'living without'.

    ARCHIVED Babycakes...

babycakes is a bakery in nyc... i tried their cupcakes. in general, i found the texture of the cake part to be quite good-- much less dense than a lot of gluten-free cakes. better than happy happy happy (which closed down). the frosting, however, was not very good. these cupcakes could be awesome w/this cake and magnolia/buttercup bakery frosting! of...
