ARCHIVED Shower Bar Soaputdan replied to utdan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Thanks Tiffany. I'll see if they have those at Walmart or somewhere. Yea, I think I'll go without the botanical stuff for now. :-)

ARCHIVED Shower Bar Soaputdan posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I use Dial (gold) currently. I have a wierd little patch of white dry skin (gluten soap??). Does anyone know of good shower bar soap? Electric Gel shaving lotion? Liquid facial soap?

Yes, I agree. I can't tell you how many times I came late and had to skip the sacrament because of not getting my rice bread to them before church. Nobody even notices when I don't take it.

ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."utdan replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff You might be celiac if you ever thought of wheat bread as your nemesis.

I agree that it takes a combination of a good diet and exercise to get results. I've also found that the time of meals and exercise make a big difference as well. From a book "Mastering Leptin" claims that it is crucial to not eat anything (not even a tic tac) after 7pm . Also it says to only eat 3 times a day (no snacks at all) spaced at least 4 hours apart...

ARCHIVED Shocking Storyutdan replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs It seems that the dr's own ego and mouth will get her in trouble quicker than anything else right now so recording her might give you an edge in court.

ARCHIVED Shocking Storyutdan replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Hi there. That's the kind of ridiculous you usually only see in Hollywood movies! I'm so sorry to hear this happening to you, and that this goes on at all. One thing I don't understand is that you said you were only following Dr's orders. I could see if you didn't follow Dr.'s orders than maybe there would be a case for neglect. Since you were only following...

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestationsutdan replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders ((((HUGS)))) to you Lynne! I admire your courage and patience!!! Thanks for being here, you've already helped me tremendously with my tendonitis in your email! And as far as I'm concerned, your philosophy is great. You continue to serve others even when you are in the greatest need. What a great example for all.

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestationsutdan replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders "About Zonulin Zonulin is a signaling protein that transiently and reversibly opens the tight junctions ("tj") between the cells of epithelial and endothelial tissues such as the intestinal mucosa, blood brain barrier and pulmonary epithelia." Wouldn't a Zonulin antagonist prevent gluten from crossing over the blood brain barrier by preventing the "tight...

ARCHIVED Which Amy's Meals Are Produced At Their gluten-free Facility?utdan replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications An observation: The Amy's "Black Bean and Vegetables Enchiladas" have the warning of being made in a non-gluten-free facility. The "Cheese Enchiladas" don't have that warning. I got glutened by one of the enchiladas before (I think it was the Black bean and vegetable). However, I eat the cheese enchilada all the time now and never have problems. So...

I tried it a few years ago and didn't notice any difference, but that was before I went gluten free.

Good point. It's not just cats that lick themselves (especially just after eating) but I've seen my dog cleaning himself too, and then of course whatever the dog touches is possible contamination. Sometimes it's possible to forget that your dog licked you while you were on the computer or doing something and you had gluten on your hand. (edited - forgot...

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestationsutdan replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders It sounds like you went through quite an ordeal, glad to know that you have partially recovered from eating gluten-free and that you can walk by yourself! Wow, what a blessing that is. In your spinal taps did they find elevated antigliadin antibodies? My neuropathy started in early high school with slight tremors in the arms when exerting strength. Now when...

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestationsutdan replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Thank you RavenWoodGlass for that great article! I've read about people getting their CSF tested but didn't really pay attention to why. And it's great to know how bad the gluten can actually be. So we can't eat ANY "gluten-free" prepared foods? It's just so hard to believe. Have any of you had any genetic testing or MRI's done?

I had experiences with peaches, apricots, and corn syrup where bad reactions developed after eating them almost everyday for a few weeks. But with rice I've been eating it everyday for 2 months and don't see any big problems. Maybe certain foods need the rotation diet more than others (those high in lectins or salicylates), not sure.

ARCHIVED New Attitude Problem For Meutdan replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease A pet peeve of mine actually...people complaining to me and then don't want to know the way out or the way to less suffering. Maybe I should start a website called "bitingyourtoungue.com" and then have people submit tips and experiences on how best to do it and when...this world might be a better place

I never heard of any place that sells potatoe skins but if there was then I imagine the gluten issue would depend entirely on whether they used contaminated kitchenware to do the job. Also, I would think it would be deep-fried and the oil used could/probably would be contaminated.

Hey Jenny, good luck tomorrow! I'll pray for you.

ARCHIVED Petty, Silly Annoyances That You Would Never Tell Anyone Else.utdan replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Yes Margaret, its great to not be the special case person that becomes a downer for a group or other person. Nobody wants to have to hear other's problems unsolicited if it can be avoided. It's really a way to respect others while not compromising your health. I wouldn't comment on what the "celiac experts" in the room say so long as it doesn't hurt anybody...

ARCHIVED Petty, Silly Annoyances That You Would Never Tell Anyone Else.utdan replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I've learned to not bring up C in response to things people say or suggest. I just say "that's ok" or "I'll have a salad instead." Then they get to thinking to themselves why aren't they having the delicious stuff? Then they say, "oh, that's right. You can't eat that because...". Then I say "yes" . It's only when it troubles them that they will learn, when...

I agree with Cassidy, maybe try some candida-safe foods like apples, oranges just to see. The specific carbohydrate diet says fruit that is canned or processed fruit juice is not candida safe. Although you said chicken made you sick...was it breaded or KFC chicken?

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Dietutdan replied to utdan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hi Matilda, thank you for the reply. Sorry to hear about the problems you gained while on the diet. Hopefully it will work out better next time you give it a try! I also feel better after consuming a hefty dose of good bacteria, maybe because of an overgrowth of bad bacteria? I understand stress kills good bacteria, and I certainly have an overdose of that...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Dietutdan replied to utdan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease is celiac disease a severe food-related health problem? The claim in the book is that 'many celiac symptoms would relapse on a supposed gluten-free diet no matter how strict one ate gluten-free. But the specific carbohydrate diet, followed for a certain length of time, had supposedly eliminated many people's gluten intolerances permanently.' I would think...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Dietutdan posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I just picked up a copy of "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" at the specific carbohydrate diet seems like it's worth a try. Has anybody tried it or heard anything about it helping?
