  1. never tried it, nor am i jewish or religious, but isn't the purpose of the matzo meal in gefilte just to hold the meat together for cooking, like breadcrumbs are to hamburger meat? i can't see any other reason for the matzo meal after reading through the recipe in front of me. if that's the reason, you could substitute rice cake powder for the matzo.....
  2. i hate that soya taste...for a sauce i just put in some cold pressed olive oil and crushed garlic. throw some onions in if ya like & sautee, then add your veggies/meat. --matt
  3. there are some recipes in "the gluten free gourmet bakes bread" by bette hagman for sourdough which don't use any milk. they DO use eggs though, can you use an egg replacer? i haven't tried any of her bread recipes...too much work for something you can pickup at the grocery store for $1. --matt
  4. here i made this one last week, it's awesome imho. when i do it again, i would double the salsa though, since i really liked it. crab cakes with avocado salsa: prep time 15 mins +30mins chilling cookking time 6 mins -2 eggs, lightly beaten -340g (11oz) can crab meat, drained (i used four 120g cans, well drained) -1 spring onion -1 tablespoon...

  7. i've got this recipe book and sometimes it calls for "flour," sometimes for "self-rising flour." what the hell is the difference?? for the "flour" i just use an all-purpose which works fine, but will an all-purpose suffice, when the recipe calls for self-rising flour, or is there some big differenence between the two? --matt
  8. so i did some deep frying last week, but my food didn't turn that nice golden color that it does when i use an all-purpose wheat-based flour i used a gluten-free all-purpose flour made up of constartch, white rice flour & guar gum--it stayed white colored after it was done frying. not so nice looking. so does anyone have any suggestions for what...

Hi New to the whole gluten free thing, and i was at the healthfood store looking at bread mixes today. i actually DID buy one. it was advertised as "wheat & gluten free." i opened it up and there was a yeast packet inside. i thought yeast contained gluten? are there some yeasts that contain gluten? i used the yeast when i baked the bread...
