JFHC my eye itches like crazy!!
It's also rather red.
And a bit swollen.
But only the one eye.
I'm the picture of beauty right now. Hero, eat your heart out. I've also got a lovely case of unidentified red itchyness on my lips. I'm REAL cute.
Um, anyone know anything about pink eye? I've never had it before, and it looks like I'm well on my way to a lovely case of it.
Help?

What about Dr. Pepper?

You must be going for Memphis and May...I'm so jealous!!!

All bourbon is whiskey, but all whiskey is not bourbon.
They are all aged in Oak barrels, but bourbon is aged in barrells that have been charred first. Bourbon must also be made from a certain percentage of corn in the mash. Over 50% I think. Most of it comes from Kentucky.
Whiskey, I believe, is made more from rye than corn. Jack Daniels is whiskey, not bourbon.
Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, and Evan Williams is all definitely bourbon, and not using good Kentucky bourbon in a mint julep would be a sacrelige. Especially close to derby time
-
They are both premium boubons and have a smoother taste than Jim Beam (not that there is anything wrong with Beam)...
I forgot to mention, I'm in the south. Premium bourbons are for pansies
Just kidding.
-
I don't drink bourbon, but I've cooked with Jim Beam with excellent results.
I've heard good things about Evan Williams and Wild Turkey, as well.

The only thing they used for me was Versed, which is a amnesic drug. You're awake for it, but you don't remember it. They also used a topical anesthetic of some kind that I had to swallow. It was fine for me, and I didn't even have an IV.
Make sure you have someone to drive you home either way, though.

I feel pretty safe, although when it comes to getting my hair done, I think my vanity outweighs my safety.
Last time I got my hair colored, I seemed to be ok. I go to an Aveda salon.

Dead bullfrog....Ewwwwww That mental picture was a giggler... Sorry Chelse I've never heard that one before.
I did though! I had a bad case (triggered celiac). My glands swelled on my neck to enormous size, I was very very pale, I had dark circles under my eyes, and my mouth gaped open because I couldn't breathe, swallow, or move. Apparently I smelled like a dead bullfrog also, because whatever toxins my tonsils were getting rid of smelled really bad. I didn't know of course, but my mom and brother said it was awful! The lighting in my mom's apartment was very romantic while I was sick, there were scented candles everywhere

I'm sorry your family is having such a hard time. I've had several anorexic/bulemic friends and it's rough to even be around. I can relate to looking in the mirror and seeing fat.
I lost a good 50 lbs between my senior year of high school and the end of my freshman year of college. I was 220, so it was needed. Anyway, I still saw myself as the same as I did before I lost weight. I remember looking at a full length mirror in the dorm and actually *saw* myself get fatter in the mirror. At that point I realized I had a distorted body image. That helped me a lot, and I got a taste of what my friends with eating disorders saw.
She'll struggle with this her whole life, but with proper treatment, she will get better. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

If you're still in the early stages of mono, sometimes the blood test doesn't show it. Even then, not everyone will show on the blood test. What you described is what I felt like with mono. I looked like a dead bullfrog. I felt like one too.
I hope you get to the bottom of it! Feel better!

I also saw some "Healthy Mom" shakes in the baby aisle that were labeled gluten-free... you don't have to be a mom to drink them, they are just extra energy type shakes, helpful for any woman...
Where did you find those?

I know I'm glutened within 15 minutes. I completely zone out and my face feels like I have too much powder on.
Stomach feels crappy for several days.
-
I don't trust myself with doing my own color. I only go to Aveda salons, and I know most of their stuff has wheat, but I haven't gotten sick. I'm just careful for a few days.

I was put on the diet by my doctor at a very bad time in my family. I had to travel to a neighboring state on the second day of my diet for a family crisis. My mom was really supportive at first, really interested in what would replace and etc. She didn't even roll her eyes too much when I wanted her to wash my raw steak off when she used a questionable seasoning. My aunt, trying to be supportive, asked if I could eat white bread. Everybody was surprisingly cool. DH is concerned for me, but thinks I'm being paranoid sometimes, though he knows I'm not. My inlaws don't think I'm nuts, and they try to accomodate.
My mom flipped when I was actually dx'ed. She said I was self diagnosing, being paranoid, should go get six million other tests done. Granted, I had a bad case of word vomit for a while there. She got sick of hearing me talk about it. Now she's flopped back over to supportive again. Telling me that I'll have to breastfeed until my kids are 18 (joke, obviously), asking about what I cook with, etc.
Um, not sure about my brother and sister, haven't seen them yet since dx.
My friends. Two of my friends are outstanding. My best friend was actually psyched for me! Her cousin has celiac and she knew all about it and was glad I figured out what was wrong. She loves gluten-free rice crispy treats.
Another friend sent me a baking book, and did it anonymously. I had to call the vendor to figure out who the heck sent it to me.
I have one friend that didn't believe me. At a pancake house where I was having supposedly safe hashbrowns, she said, "well, if you really have that, why weren't you sick all the time?" I said that I was, and that I was very good at hiding it. My husband didn't even know. I didn't really care to share my harrowing tales of daily D. She looked at me like, uh-huh, sure. Sure enough, I got glutened, and was obviously sick halfway through our meal. I'm pretty sure the point got across.
I think it just takes time.

They are all lactose free, but they are choc full of casien.
Lactose is the milk sugar, casein is the milk protein.
If anyone wanted to do a casein challege, boost high protein would be excellent.

OK, I am not trying to find a weight loss shake. While I could stand to lose weight, I'm just trying to find something quick in case I get stuck somewhere and I get hypoglycemic and can't get a meal.
I tried the Boost high protein, but it made me REALLY sick.
Too much milk protein at once, I think, or drinking it fast was a bad idea. Either way I'm not drinking it again.
I'm looking for more of a soy base if I can find one. Yes, I know soy may be bad for me, but it's not an everyday thing, and eliminating soy is not a priority for me right now.
Slim fast won't guarantee any of their products as gluten-free, but does anyone drink them without problems?
I really need a shelf stable meal-replacement shake.
Thanks!

All boost except for the chocolate malt is gluten-free.
I've only had the high protein, but it made me SICK. I don't think I could handle that much milk protein all at once. Either that or it was the combination of milk protein and vegetable oil. Whichever

Hi Dawn
Well it looks like you to have been given the schuffle from doctors whom I might add seem to know little or care. They just want the big bucks but don't care about solving or finding a correct dx.... Oh they make me so angry. I was dx'd with Lou Gerhig's almost four years ago and I watched a friend go down quickly with this disease. It is one of the most horrible disease's in the world today. Now I told my doctor (after the initial shock of being dx'd) I did not have this . He asked how I new that and I said well I prayed tons and asked for answers and this kept coming back to me NO>NO> NO. So i said no I don't have that disease. I know something is wrong but its not that... He smiled and looked at me as if I had two heads and a horn in the middle of my forehead. So here it is years later and I'm still walking, talking, no feeding tube ! The given survival rate is 3 to 5 years....He just looks at me and shakes his head as I say I told you NO No No....Now I'm sure something is going on in my body but not LG's disease.
You are very smart in finding out what truly maybe your problems because I don't think a Doctor will find out unless you find a caring one and it appears that is almost mission impossible these days.....You may also have to get loud and demanding to get test and bloodwork done. Fight back you are the one paying for the insurance.......and its your body...
good luck
mamaw
Man, I hope you don't have it either. I would argue that ALS IS the most CRUEL disease on the planet. One of my scout's dad is in the end stages, in his case it's going from the inside out. He's been on a feeding tube a few years now. It's so sad to see him, since I know he's there, especially since he waves, nods, etc.
You would think after 4 years, you would be worse off.

I have an angel food cake recipe that I love! It is not as airy as a traditional angel food but the taste is out of this world!
Hez
PS- I can post the recipe if someone wants it.
Is the texture more like pound cake or something? Once upon a wheat filled time, I made a white cake with my girl scouts from scratch and they forgot the baking powder. It was like low cholesterol pound cake
Would you mind posting the recipe, maybe?

That's great news! Do they cook with dairy too?
I'll look at the menu when I get home, but I think most of their stuff is dairy free, as well. I don't think milk is used much in asian cooking.

I think that there is a lot of fiber in 3 apples, and that coupled with coffee probably did you in.
Hope you feel better fast!
I agree.
Apple Nutrition Facts
(*One medium 2-1/2 inch apple, fresh, raw, with skin)
Calories 81
Carbohydrate 21 grams
Dietary Fiber 4 grams (20% RDA)
Calcium 10 mg
Phosphorus 10 mg
Iron .25 mg
Sodium 0.00 mg
Potassium 159 mg
Vitamin C 8 mg
Vitamin A 73 IU
Folate 4 mcg
So let's say the smallish apple has 3 grams of fiber, that puts you at what? 9 grams of fiber in a sitting? So that's 45% of your daily RDA of fiber, add that to the natural diuretic effects of coffee, and WHAM! That's also a lot of sugar.
Just a thought.
Pink Eye?

I do have allergies, lots of them, but they usually don't affect my eyes.
What also worries me is that it's only in one eye.
I think it was probably my germy girl scouts
