  1. There is another post here (maybe someone can help me find it?) that has a list of gluten free mainstream foods in a pdf file. I downloaded it to my palm and take it with me when I go shopping. It has helped alot.
  2. I live in an area where it is common practice to cook with beer. They usually steam the chicken in beer, use beer as a marinade, etc. My husband likes to pour beer on the meat as he barbecues it. Last weekend I refused to eat it and it did cause a bit of a stir but I will not do anything to intentionally make myself ill! Any ideas or suggestions for an...
  3. I have actually have a fairly good week for a change. I am still a pessimist and waiting for the honeymoon period to end . We are going to travel to Las Vegas and Laughlin in a few weeks and I am nervous. I don't want to get stuck in the hotel room. I guess I need to start contacting the hotel restaurants to find out what I can have. First year without...
  4. This is a good question. I am curious about it myself. Before I wen gluten-free I carried a lunchbox full of pills!! Immodium is pretty harsh for me but is a wonder drug when I am traveling and can not possibly risk getting a bad attack of diarrhea. Vicodin helps when I am VERY ill. I have all the antispasmatics, bentyl, donnatol, Levsin, etc. They...
  5. I am so sorry your mom is ill. I, too, have been very ill for over a year now and getting out of the house can be difficult at times. My son has been such a help to me, it is so wonderful to have such caring children. I don't have any advice for the constipation since I have the opposite problem but I am sure there are others here who can help. I do know...
  6. Every day I see a bit of improvement. I am actually out shopping and getting over the fear of traveling. I can not believe how sick I was. Today I went to the farmers market and bought a bunch of fresh veggies, pesticide free of course! I am finding organic, preservative free, simple foods are the best thing for me right now, it is making a difference...

    ARCHIVED Gerd/reflux

I am curious how many people with celiac disease have damage in other parts of their digestive track. When I had my endoscopy I was told I have a hiatal hernia, severe reflux and gastritis. I wonder if this is all related. I don't get heartburn but I do notice a correlation with reflux and lower gi upset (to say it nicely). It really feels like I am...
  8. I am pretty sure I am having reactions to dairy as well. So instead of my coffee in the morning I am having green tea and honey. I did buy lactaid milk to make my bread with. Is all dairy bad? I read somewhere that goat cheese may be better than cow. This will be hard for me since I am such a cheese freak. What does everyone eat for breakfast now...
  9. I know there is a definite connection between my period and my stomach being very sensitive. Its funny, my symptoms got worse shortly after switching my blood pressure meds and staring the Nuvaring. I keep asking if it is related but all the doctors tell me no. I do like the Nuvaring though. My gyno told me I could just replace it after 3 weeks and skip...
  10. I am sorry you have been so sick. I know how you feel, I have been there myself. It is really frustrating to think you are doing everything right then find out what you are eating has hidden gluten. During my sickest time I actually gained a couple of pounds. Everything was going through me and I was starving all the time so I was eating all the time...
  11. Well Foster farms emailed me and said their sour cream is gluten free. Hum, maybe I need to cut out dairy for awhile anyway. I have found I need my own butter stick, I went to use some and there were bread crumbs on it. Oh well, if I go dairy free and get some fake butter stuff no one in the house will touch it anyway!
  12. Thanks Mariann. I did email them and I will post their response. I could be lactose intolerant. Hum, can't the doctor test me for this? My intestines are still really sensitive and I did have some home made ice cream as well. I do know that eggs make me ill. Back to chicken and rice again. My gut feels like something is fermenting in there, with cramps...
  13. What is making me sick? Is sour cream gluten-free? I can not get into the web page for foster farms and the label says modified food starch. Could this be the culprit? I have been eating homemade guacamole. This is frustrating!
  14. Oops, nevermind I just checked with them and I can bring in my own food in a plastic bag. I wan't sure. One concert hall I went to was so strict they made me through out my altoids
  15. I promised my son for his 16th birthday I would take him to the Warped Concert in Sacramento. It is basically a day long concert with alot of music, vendors, skateboarding demontrations, etc. They have a reverse babysitting tent for parents, LOL. They are very strict about what you can bring in, no outside food, drinks, etc. I plan on bring with me foods...
  16. I have been searching around the internet and I can not find out any more info. I did have some Smirnoff and I think I am reacting to it. I tried to email them but I can not seem to get into their web page.
  17. I am concerned that my doctor is not following through with me. I am basically left alone. I did get a prescription to a dietitian but I had to ask for it. Last month before changing my diet I was so very sick. I had such horrible diarrhea for a couple of weeks and the pain was so bad I could not even walk, I felt like my intestines were raw. Then I...
  18. I have been eating Laura Scudders. The ingredients are peanuts and salt. Plain and simple. I have it on rice cakes for breakfast with a banana. It is a little runny and you have to mix it up but it does give me enough to keep me going till lunch
  19. I am confused since the Celiac.com webpages states that Smirnoff is made from corn and is ok
  20. I am trying to figure out what made me sick the other day. I checked the labels carefully, I have gluten free list on my palm and check before I buy but I did not check the cheese. I used Kraft Mexican cheese blend in my enchiladas I made. I am having trouble finding out if it is safe or not.
  21. I am pretty new at this myself so I know how you feel. I have to try to not get mad at my husband when he throws out my gluten free dinner that I cooked and runs to McDonalds! Is shredded cheese bad? Maybe thats what caused my relapse the other day, still not 100%. I checked everything I put in my cassarole except the cheese, now I can't find any info...
  22. Its hard to say whether I had reactions before since I was sick all the time anyway. I woke up with a terrible sinus headache and congestion then the "tummy troubles" kicked in. I still feel awful and very tired. A pretty obvious reaction to something since I have been feeling pretty good lately, even getting up early and exercising for a half hour before...
  23. Last night I had some white wine and now I am sick again. I don't know if it is the sulfites or alcohol. Does anyone else have problems? I don't usually drink "hard" alcohol and beer is out so that doesn't leave me many choices does it?
  24. Wow celiac3270, you are a wealth of information! Thanks so much for all the tips, it really helps us newbies!!!
  25. I saw a recipe on Foodtv where someone ( I can not remember which show) made a crust using pasta but I bet it would work with shredded potatoes (hashbrowns). this is assuming you can have dairy. Basically make a mixture of hasbrowns, shredded cheese and eggs in a oven ready fry pan. Fry it until it the bottom is crispy then put under the broiler until...
