  1. That is interesting since I quit smoking about 3 years ago and I have been gradually getting sicker for the last year and a half. I tell you though, I would much rather have Celiac than die from cancer or empysema like my father and in-laws did.
  2. I just made the banana nut bread recipe from this site and it was so good my husband ate it all! My next treat is bread, I just ordered a bunch of different types of flour. Allrecipes.com has a place for gluten free recipes and ratings.
  3. I, too, was so afraid I was dying a few times I was on the verge of admitting myself until they figured it out!
  4. My doctor has yet to give me any advice or diagnosis. I have been pushing for a dietitian basically just to force them to write something down. Well today I received it. Diagnosis: Celiac Sprue. I don't know why it has taken them so long to decide but I am glad and now I can move forward. I am sorry if this sounds bad, but I am relieved. I have a sense...
  5. Wow that is awesome! I am glad you had a great time.
  6. I found a web page that sells chestnut flour and has come gluten free recipes on it. I wonder if it would be a good flour for desserts? They have recipes for chestnut bread, bisque, and crepes. I am thinking about trying it, does anyone have any suggestions?
  7. I am sorry you are still feeling ill. I am new at this too. For me, I am very sugar sensitive and that much fruit juice would definitely make me very nauseated and jittery. Maybe try something without so much sugar. Is gatoraide gluten-free? I drink alot of sparkling waters flavored with lemon or lime. I hope you feel better soon!
  8. People make sun of me at work because I get intense cravings for spinach! It happens alot. When my diarrhea was severe I could not have raw veggies and I hated it. I buy big bags of baby spinach and arugula, any dark green leafy veggie.
  9. I am finding tht alot of processed foods have something bad in it. I poured salad dressing on my salad then read the label! Ok throw that out. I am generally pretty good about avoid processed foods anyway but they seem to sneak glutin in unexpected places! I guess for now just stay simple and homemade. Meats, veggies, rice, potatos. I did buy some spagetti...
  10. That is pretty interesting. I have lupus in my family as well and my GI didn't look twice at it. Also diabetes. I am curious as to what your new doctor says.
  11. I was really freaked out before mine and when I went in I told the doctor how nervous I was. He gave me extra sedative and after that I could not care what happened. It really was very painless and easy for me. I did go home and nap for about 6 hours though!
  12. We live along the California coast and a big thing here is barbeque. One of our favorite Sunday or Saturday evening meals is very popular here. First take a cut of meat called flap meat or in the mexican markets it is called Ranchera. Marinade it in orange juice, lime juice, lemon juice and various spices depending on how spicey you like your food...
  13. Today they had a pot luck at work. I was very good about avoiding cakes, cookies, bread, etc. but for some stupid reason I grabbed macaroni salad. I must have associated it with potato salad I guess. Well I took a bite and suddenly realized what I did. I immediately spit it out into my napkin, of course in front of everyone. Now I am embarrassed for...
  14. I am in the same boat althought now they say "borderline celiac" whatever that means. I started to think about it and came to the realization that practically nothing healthy is made from wheat and there are better sources of fiber. Its all just "filler" food and if staying away makes me feel better than I am all for it.
  15. I love going to live pro events. Football, hockey, baseball, etc. Next month we are going to an Angels game. Since beer, hot dogs, pizza and pretzels are out what is left? I do know at Staples they have sushi bars but I doubt that would be the case at Angel Stadium. Any suggestions?

    ARCHIVED Fast Food

What about Taco Bell. I could not find anything on their web page and their nacho chips seemed a bit "light" to be corn. Have you ever made home made french fries? They are the best! I bought a deep fryer and mandoline slicer, it is really easy to make. I usually leave the skins on too and cook in olive oil
  17. I am finding there are alot more choices out there than I thought. I have come to the conclusion that eggs must leave my diet. If I eat eggs for breakfast I will be sick all day. I thought I would try eggbeaters until someone pointed out one of the ingrediants is a laxative, don't need that! Most mainstream and fast food restaurants have dietary information...
  18. Is there any way you can call your doctor? I would be concerned about the stomach pain so amny things can cause it. I have GERD (reflux)and I know that anything acidic is bad. Also tea, coffee and chocolate can cause flareups even if decaffinated. Right now the liquid I drink is water.
  19. Thanks, yes I know this is probably my best source. I did talk to a dietitian at the hospital who basically said the same thing. There is no such thing as borderline. She is going to help me with an elimination diet. I have my new palm pilot and my diet and exercise assistant program so I am all set. I bought rice cakes (I actually really like them instead...
  20. Ok I called back the doctors office and asked about the referral. She pulled my chart and said that I was borderline celiac. I asked what this meant. She said I did not have celiac but was borderline celiac. So I am going to take this as I would a "borderline diabetic". I don't have severe damage but do need to modify my diet. I called the dietitian...
  21. I have made california rolls before with real crab meat from the market. I guess when I get a craving I will make it myself. I have the sushi mat. Is it safe to assume the nori is ok?
  22. Irish on my mothers side. She had a lot of health problems including pancreatitis and insulin dependent diabetes and she never drank a day in her life. She used to hate it when she would go to the hospital and they would try to get her into AA.
  23. One of my favorite foods is a California roll. I usually have them when I have been sick and need something nutritious and light. I know the soy sauce is a big no no but what about the imitation crab? If they aren't safe what would be a good alternative? I am not a big sushi eater so I don't know all the different types of rolls and whether it is considered...
  24. Thanks for the replies. I still haven't heard from my doctor regarding a dietitian. I guess they think its ok to be sick and miserable. The antibiotics are helping although my skin is getting really itchy. I am ready to give it a try. I guess I have to talk myself into it although most the foods I love are gluten free (I think). I just want to stop...
  25. I have had just about every test the doctor can think of. My IgG was positive everything else negative. I had the biopsy which he hesitated on, went back and forth a bit then said no, not celiac. So now I have a CT scan which shows uterine fibroids. Now I am having an ultrasound to see if this is causing my pelic pain. My gyno says no, fibroids are common...
