You want to not have kids because gluten intolerance is genetic? Everything's genetic, including being human. This is a condition that can be controlled by minor dietary manipulations, not some disease that causes babies to be stillborn or suffer horribly then die in their first month of life. -
While peanut allergies may not be rarer than celiac disease, they are certainly rarer than gluten intolerance. And I am certain that there is more celiac than ever and at earlier ages because people are eating more gluten than ever in the typical American diet.

Unfortunately, the situation is much more complex than that. I substitute in all grades and classes in public schools. Some Down's children are "high achievers", but they still need regular help - perhaps half regular classes and half special classes in a resource room. Others are in high school still learning how to dress themselves and use utensils properly... -

It looks like it is highly probable that you've got it. Testing is not necessary. You can test yourself with the diet...BUT... As you say, your house is full of gluten and you don't cook. I seriously doubt there is a wheat lobby that would be involved in this. More likely the drug lobby would be involved, as the money they make from treating symptoms dwarfs what farmers would lose from a few more people changing their diet. Besides, farmers can always change the crops they grow to respond to demand, while treating celiac with diet will reduce... -
I think they should just stop serving snacks if they're just going to decide to sock it to another sensitivity group, one that is larger than those with peanut allergies. The flight attendant always looks at me like I have two heads when I give her back the packet of stale pretel bits and say I can't eat them.

Whoo, thanks for the link to my blog. I have found that there are very few celiac or gluten-free blogs in the directories I have looked at or submitted to. More people need to write public blogs about their experiences and opinions about celiac, gluten intolerance, and the gluten-free lifestyle. Don't worry if you find undigested bits of food in his diapers. It is perfectly normal and happens to people of all ages who don't chew their food extremely thoroughly. We don't have 4 stomachs to digest cellulose like cows do. -

That's just amazing. Would they recommend diagnosis and treatment after the kid starts having diarrhea every day and malabsorption, or is that also less important than the quality of living you get from eating pizza? My food budget is less, too, but that's due to that fact that I can't eat dairy, and I was eating a lot of imported cheese before. -

Bloating and gas is what lactose intolerance does to me, which won't show in an allergy test. For me, casein intolerance give me different symptoms, which have only come on recently. -

Tamari is a special type of Japanese soy sauce that should be wheat-free. Shoyu is the regular type, which always has wheat. San-J makes both types. Read the labels, definitely. -

You could very well have celiac. If going off gluten for 3 days makes all your symptoms go away, then the best test would be to go off it for a couple of weeks and then eat something very gluteny on an empty stomach, like a big meal of pasta. How will the endoscopy tell your doctor if it's gluten or not? All the biopsy can show is whether you have intestinal damage, not whether gluten is causing all your symptoms. The only way to tell if gluten is making you sick is to give it up for 6 weeks or so. If the biopsy is negative, will he order you to keep eating gluten? Will you, or would you try...
