  1. Perforated pizza pans are designed to be used with prebaked pizza crusts, like frozen pizza.
  2. If all celiacs had this, would that make it a reliable test?
  3. I really think that this is not merely the result of one mentally ill person's actions, but an extension of the "herd" mentality we have spoken of before. One "expert" who is skilled in manipulating others can convince enough people that something is a critical issue without presenting the real, entire story. They will also trust this person to lead them...
  4. Since you won't be eating as much starches, you will need to increase the fat content of your diet. You can do this by buying fattier meat and not trimming it well.
  5. Real butter doesn't contain wheat of any sort. You were probably reacting to dairy, which makes me swell up, too.
  6. I buy drinking and cooking water in gallon jugs. Just for myself I pay about $3 a week, which I think is affordable even when I've been unemployed. You don't have to pay boutique prices for drinking water.
  7. The problem with "the" paleo diet is that there are numerous versions based on various assumptions about what people used to eat hundreds of thousands of years ago. You'll find vegans who tell you that the natural diet of humans is raw grains and roughage. Nope. People who do paleo feel Cordain's version clearly seems to have made concessions to the medical...
  8. I can't eat cow's or sheep's milk cheese, but goat cheese is fine for me.
  9. I know that in the elementary schools I've worked in, the only microwave ovens are the personal property of employees, and none are available for student use. In some middle schools and high schools they have microwave ovens available, but generally kids who don't buy hot lunches bring cold food rather than waiting for a microwave anyway.
  10. The problem is that the people who carry out these things have a number of core beliefs that keep them from actually observing what is going on. First, they believe that doctors are gods, and if the doctor can't figure out what's wrong, then there's nothing really wrong with you (or your child). They believe that mothers are inherently manipulative...
  11. Don't bother getting a filter for your water. Fluoride can't be filtered out, it is dissolved. The only way to remove it yourself is with a distiller. Even if the standard recommendation of 1 mg is correct, most people get a lot more than that, when you consider that most beverages are made from fluoridated water, too. And it's definitely been shown...
  12. That's the problem with what the psychologist was doing. Memory is malleable. It has been shown that enough suggestion will cause a person, even an adult, to remember things that didn't happen. Children are even more suggestible. It's called "false memory syndrome". They have shown that repressed memories are rare, not common, and if a person does forget...

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

My mistake. I thought celiac was caused by a gluten-intolerant person eating gluten. So you are saying it has a different cause, or no cause at all, and just "happens"? If this were true, then there would be no point whatever in giving up gluten until a person is at death's door, yet suddenly, at that point it becomes the cure? Celiac is always preceded...
  14. The future celiac would be dependent on a pill, which like the pills given to type 2 diabetics, will be of limited effectiveness and have serious side effects even when used as intended. They will cost far more than any gluten-free diet could possibly cost, even with expensive food substitutions for highly processed baked goods, prepared foods, and junk foods...
  15. Colostrum is a dairy product. Are you ok with that?
  16. I hate this. It is so misleading. Sprouted bread and Ezekiel bread are products for which it is really true that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". People who know nothing about wheat sensitivity/gluten intolerance read the labels on these products and then think they are informed enough to inform others.
  17. Consider other intolerances. When my symptoms came back I gave up dairy, and they went right away.
  18. Layer it in a casserole with red sauce and cheese. Add cubes to stew. Spread it in a pan and use it for a pizza crust. Scoop it onto your plate and eat it with butter, like mashed potatoes.
  19. The program that puts in those ads is very smart but not very versatile. It looks at the site's keywords and sitename and tries to match with ads for your region. When it didn't find enough "gluten-free" ads, it then went to less perfect matches to find "gluten" ads. I used to go to a hair care site called "long hair loom". Don't you know, all the ads...
  20. Living in a place where more than one language is spoken, a person can generally manage to do everything he needs to do while limiting himself to contacts who speak his own language. Once he has done this, it is no longer necessarily required to attempt to communicate with speakers of any other language. Attempting to communicate is where most language learning...
  21. Cider is a good thing. No need to restrict that.
  22. Me, I think that we have become spoiled by "convenience" to the extent that many of us have come to believe that it is the natural order of things, rather than a technologically-driven blip on the face of the logistics of life. But even believing this, I definitely think that cooking two meals at a time is one too many. I would put my foot down. Share that...
  23. In On Our Minds, Stephen Pinker discusses the heritability of many human personality traits that are generally considered to be acquired. Clearly, if you breed animals for certain traits, other traits may become uncontrolled. So a dog bred for appearance may be vicious or stupid or nervous. Why is it considered that people are exempt from this? People...
