  1. I was trying to think of something new I could share and.... I just started getting the free Clan Thompson newsletter a little while ago. They also have Open Original Shared Link I just thought that some here who don't already subscribe might be interested. Clan Thompson also has great pocket sized product books (w/ phone #s so you can verify and the...
  2. I know that Lipitor is gluten-free....my dad has high cholesterol and uses it. Since I have just slightly high cholesterol, my mom thought it would be interesting to know if it was or wasn't gluten-free--even though I don't need medication for cholesterol at this point. But I didn't see either of the two drugs you mentioned on the list. Contact the manufacturer...
  3. Yes--the first doctor I went to (until I was maybe 11 or 12) kept saying my symptoms were normal in childhood and I'd outgrow them. When I didn't, he said that it was probably allergies, but there's no point in testing since I'd just grow out of them. He wasn't on my family's insurance plan, so we changed doctors. Looking back on it, he handled the situation...
  4. I'd bet that your parents don't want to be tested because if they were to test positive, there'd be tremendous pressure to stop eating gluten and therefore give up the......rather carefree eating that non-celiacs can do. If they don't know, they don't need to do anything about it--that's just my opinion on it--a lot of people take that approach when a relative...
  5. I know--next election, I'll be 17, but my birthday is Jan. 21, so I'll miss it by about 2 months! I agree about educating doctors when you can--though the doctor I have now is extremely good--I don't think there's much, if anything I could teach him
  6. I don't wear a medical bracelet because: A) I'm not a little kid who's four years old and doesn't know not to accept gluten. If anyone offered me anything that contained gluten while I was conscious, I would know not to take it. B ) If I was unconscious, there'd likely be a problem, so give me anything--a bit of intestinal damage is a small price...
  7. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-42105081277.ba Distilled vinegar is okay....malt is not.
  8. I ran a quick search--didn't find much in the way of Spanish....found another restaurant card, which would be good in the US, but is only in English...this won't help with this situation, but I'll share, anyway: Open Original Shared Link
  9. This site has restaurant cards (for no gluten) in many different languages: Open Original Shared Link Hmm....maybe if you could find a restaurant card for casein, you could give the person at the restaurant both cards--that's all I can think of, cause I don't know of a place with both gluten and casein restaurant cards.
  10. Ha! My idea was good....just noticed a new section this morning--check it out everyone!
  11. I agree--the opinions are going to vary. For myself, though: I've always liked school, always tried extremely hard and been the top of my class...basically no problems or aversion to education here . I don't think the celiac necessarily affects a person's perspective on school, but you might feel a little left out.....(w/ food and all)
  12. No--malt is bad for celiacs -- it contains gluten
  13. I will . It'll be tough to leave, cause as you can probably tell, I live on this board! When I'm not doing homework or sleeping or eating, I'm on here posting--I'm going to go through withdrawl being away for a few days
  14. I have gotten the following candy lists from Jessica's (angel_jd1) support group, USA Silly Yaks: Open Original Shared Link
  15. Welcome, Gina! You sound very celiac to me--ADD is relatively common with untreated celiac. Also, doctors often say "IBS" when they can't figure out what the problem is. The Irish descent further verifies it and your symptoms sound very much like that of a celiac. Any bloodwork (or an endoscopy, but that's invasive) that you do now will come back negative...
  16. Open Original Shared Link Here are some
  17. If you're Catholic, the Church does not accept a gluten-free host as being vaild for communion. There are low-wheat hosts that can be purchased that are supposedly acceptable for celiacs, but I would never put anything in my mouth if I knew it contained gluten--however small the amount. Otherwise, for example, in the Protestant churches, they are very...
  18. Hi again, More news. First, they've changed it from Tuesday to Monday. Don't have a time yet. Also, I'll have to stay in the hospital for a few days--gosh, didn't realize it was that major--I thought of it kinda like an endo, but with a slight incision. I'm scared to even think of a hospital nutritionist w/ my food and all--after all, I've heard stories...
  19. I am so happy! Yesterday, Feb. 10, I was at the hospital for an upper gi and small bowel follow through. Since I'm still getting sick, despite a small intestine that has been healed for months, he wanted to see if there was a structural problem. Basically, they took photos and looked at my intestines. Then they told me to drink this white liquid that...
  20. Can't provide any help about DC--about fast food and chains, though: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  21. Without question, you should start the gluten-free diet. A majority of all celiacs are asymptomatic, which is why so few are diagnosed, yet 1 in 133 people has it. Asymptomatic celiacs are more common than the symptomatic celiacs, but you hear more of symptomatic celiacs since those without symptoms don't get diagnosed (no problems, so no tests run)....
  22. Having read your post, I would like to, once again, apologize. I got really angry and defensive about this, but it is now obvious that your son's situation is much worse than our mere restrictions of wheat, rye, and barley. Your son is living on a gluten-free diet (with the exception of rye) and so much more. I think the hardest part about this diet for...
  23. Open Original Shared Link. These are restaurants from the gluten-free restaurants program--don't know how close they are to wherever you are in NJ. Remember the fast food/chain restaurant options.
  24. You sound celiac to me--espeically with the bloating, stomach pains, etc. Extreme fatigue is also associated with celiac. I don't experience it, but I think you'll get many replies from people who do.
  25. Yes--even a little bit will damage your intestines--whether you feel it or not. Second, your body will become more sensitive to any gluten once you start the diet. This is your body's way of warning you that it just ate something that's bad--celiacs will often have much more violent reactions to gluten if they've been gluten-free for awhile...this is...
