  1. Yes--you're making very valid points --especially since it's so common--1 in 133 have it and 97% of celiacs aren't getting proper treatment (the gluten-free diet--in most cases because they don't know they have celiac disease to begin with). It would make so much sense for the governments of a lot of these countries to screen for it--the US, UK, and all...
  2. That's great! Fun to watch, cause I've never seen anything on the news about it. I went crazy though, when they wrote "allergic to gluten" on the bottom of the screen!...lol. And then the news person said "I'm a little sensitive to wheat." Maybe she has it? Great to see, though--thank you so much!
  3. Yes--I read that article in....about four online support groups... ...just never thought to share here--will keep an eye out for things like these in the future. And that's great--celiac is getting great publicity and this might help someone with osteoporosis get a diagnosis.
  4. I know--that's terrific! This is a big step--now companies not only have gluten-free lists or ingredient listing policies, but a name-brand mainstream company wrote gluten-free on the package the way a specialty food company would in a health food store! A major victory for us all...maybe some other companies will follow this lead I had heard about...

I can sympathize with you-- People used to think it was all in my head as well--my mom couldn't understand why I would get sick so often--little did she know I had celiac and malrotation. The doctors thought it might be that I wanted attention....ugh...but at least people know it wasn't in my head now.
  6. Peppermint is very helpful with the nausea -- and Peppermint Altoids are gluten-free. I find that Sprite is also good when I'm not feeling well--but I usually let it sit out so that much of the fizz gets out of it--then you don't get bloated or gassy, as well.
  7. Jello is made by Kraft. Any foods made by Kraft are gluten-free as long as there is no mention of wheat, rye, or barley in the ingredients list. Kraft has a policy that they will not hide these ingredients under a name such as "natural flavors" or "modified food starch." Heinz ketchup is gluten-free. There is a pdf file with a two-week gluten-free...
  8. Yes--we have been having many more visitors. I've been watching the bottom of the main page, which tells how many people we've ever had on at a time and the date. It keeps growing--I think it's at 66, now--from less than a week ago.
  9. I was e-mailing another person from the board who couldn't get on either--until recently when I was able to get on again--so I knew it's wasn't just me.
  10. In my opinion--not safe. Both wheat and barley grass are on the forbidden list on celiac.com. The problem is that some of the seeds (which contain gluten) might still get into the the supplement--the contamination is too likely--I would not take that supplement.
  11. Today I got this message when I tried to log in: From what I understand, the bandwidth limit can be reached when there's a large amount of activity--is that the reason or is there another one? Thanks, Scott-- I just want to know if we're getting so popular that this might become a problem or if there was some construction going on with...
  12. But any crumbs would be enough to cause intestinal damage--whether or not they caused symptoms.
  13. Yes--whey has to do with milk and is gluten-free. Here's what the dictionary has to say:
  14. Nothing to add in terms of fatigue, but welcome, Ian. If you didn't get tested by a doctor, what alerted you to the possibility of celiac? Most Americans don't even know what celiac is even though 1% of them have it .
  15. Yes--the dough itself can get a little sticky and hard to spread out in the pizza pan. It's made with some sort of cheesy stuff in the mix, but if you make pizza, you'll need actual cheese on top -- Kraft makes a grated parmesean and a mozzarella. Correct--it makes a thin crust pizza. I guess you could use two if you like it thick I've only made...
  16. You can order the mix from Open Original Shared Link -- no shipping charges, but if you buy in bulk, it's a lower price per-mix. I once saw a recipe for the Chebe, as well--but don't still have it. You follow instructions for making the bread as on the package, then try to spread the dough onto a pizza pan--it's sometimes hard to cover the whole thing since...
  17. Yes--I find that the simpler the letter the better. The only thing I say besides is it gluten-free is that it's really important for me to know because I have celiac disease or because I have a dietary restriction, etc. This way they don't take it lightly, though I wouldn't expect they'd give me wrong information. The people there, I would expect,...
  18. It does seem so unfair to put someone, particularly a child, through that. I think that gluten challenges (going on gluten after getting a diagnosis and being on the diet for months, just to make sure that's what really makes you sick) are pointless. I do think, though, that there are advantages to getting an official diagnosis. For example, if KarenAnne...
  19. I love Chebe pizza....but with the crust made using the bread mix, which turns out better than using the actual "pizza crust" mix. It's just as good or even better heated up the next day, too.
  20. Reese's are made by Hershey's so gluten will be clearly listed on the label. Thus, for all PB cups, and the white chocolate ones you inquired about, just read the label
  21. If I saw this on a label, I would never take it as being gluten--never seen it on any forbidden lists and it's not on the one at celiac.com. I would assume it's safe....
  22. Dianegf, The list on celiac.com for candies is very incomplete. It merely gives you an idea of what's gluten-free--a couple candies for starters, but there are many far more extensive lists of gluten-free candy because really there's so much of it that we can have. Around Halloween, I got a list from Jessica's USA Silly Yaks support group that was extremely...
  23. I'm also doing the afternoon teen cooking....yay, I'll meet somebody else from the board! Then I'll be able to put a face with the name If your sister is on a nearly gluten-free diet, though, she probably won't get accurate blood results, but I guess if it comes free with going to the event and it only takes a few minutes, it can't hurt.
  24. Good...they weren't too terrible in comparison to Quaker with contamination, but if I did eat oats, I'd feel a lot more comfortable now--with them. I'd never eat Quaker, though.
  25. Also, though, I read an article that someone is planning on growing oats in Northern Europe where certain areas of soil aren't contaminated--so they can manufacture uncontaminated oats.
