This is what helps me-- If you have nausea, peppermints help (I use Altoids, but any gluten-free ones will do). For stomach pains/aches, I find that a heating pad helps soooo much--and the curled up, fetal position I always naturally take when I have celiac-related stomach aches. Of course, wear loose pants, etc.

Oh, okay I have "ny" at the end of my signature--added it maybe 2 weeks ago just for the point of it

ARCHIVED Mission Corn Products
celiac3270 replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes--thank you for passing it on. It's very helpful to know what options we have--wouldn't even have thought about calling them, but now I know -
Good point--I didn't even think about all the undiagnosed celiacs out there donating blood.

I voted in both spots as 1-3, so you might want to eliminate one 1-3 vote from your tally. Oh, also, moderators can't remove the post, but if you or a mod. or whoever reports it, it will get sent to him and Scott can take care of it. Just out of curiosity--what correlation do you expect to see between caffeine and celiac disease?

celiac3270 replied to jaimek's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes! It's nice to know that you've done everything correctly and being gluten-free really is making a difference to your body -

I just ran a search: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link There's a lot on hormones--this was a bit on female hormones. -
ARCHIVED What Else Should I Get Tested For?
celiac3270 replied to KLTerry's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, you don't really need to test for anything else as long as you get better on this diet. If not, check the related disorders and research section--I don't remember most of them...there is lupus, thyroid problems (hypo or hyper), anemia, other nutritional deficiencies, allergies, intolerances (casein, dairy, soy, to name a few common ones), etc. The... -
Ooh, another thing, then. If you want to know when someone reads a message, before you send it, check the "track this message" box. Then, when you want to see if it's been read later, you go to my controls or your inbox or whatever, and go to the menu on the left. The last option under the "messenger" category is "message tracker" and if you click on that...

Yes, you will get a notification by e-mail. Also, though, when you log onto the board, a window will pop up notifying you of a new message and allowing you to read it in that new window. Finally, you can just look up at the toolbar. Next to "My Controls", it says "0 New Messages"....or if you have any, 1, 2, 3, etc.

ARCHIVED Asymptomatic Gut
celiac3270 replied to kdskaggs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those are a few good examples--a lot of people, also, don't have excessive flatulence and loose stools, but instead are shorter than others, are very low or very high in weight, are constantly fatigued, and have other related disorders. Your difficulty in gaining weight is a classic celiac symptom that I also have. Anemia is very common in celiacs (since... -
ARCHIVED Gf Rice Crackers - Strange Label
celiac3270 replied to glen4cindy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm...that's disturbing...no more of those for me for awhile and maybe I'll contact the company to ask about cross contamination and how conscientious they are about keeping gluten out of their products. -
ARCHIVED Which Is Better? Corn Or Rice Pasta?
celiac3270 replied to mwical's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm very satistfied with Tinkyada (rice) so I haven't even tried any corn pastas. -
Open Original Shared Link is their website. If there's no healthfood store in the area that carries it, you have two options: to bring in some information or a picture or whatever about the product and ask the healthfood store to stock it, or to order it from one of a multitude of sites that carry it. Since Tinkyada is a very common name when it comes to...

ARCHIVED Asymptomatic Gut
celiac3270 replied to kdskaggs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not me-- But I can say that the majority of celiacs are asymptomatic, which is precisely why most celiacs aren't diagnosed, and since they don't think anything's wrong with them or their doctors don't check for celiac, most of the people here on the board are symptomatic celiacs. It's definitely possible and very likely that you can have celiac even... -
ARCHIVED Mornings.. Do U Get Sick
celiac3270 replied to roddi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
With my symptoms, they used to always start in late afternoon or evening: 4-8 PM. I've noticed, though, that since being gluten-free, I can feel if I'm gping to be sick later in the day by how I feel in the morning. Sometimes it's stomach pains (mild, but there), more often it's nausea and a lack of appetite. But I've noticed that how I feel in the morning... -
ARCHIVED Obstacles Faced By Celiacs
celiac3270 replied to ResearcheringCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I entirely agree with Mark. The manufacturers completely take advantage of the fact that we have no choice but to make it ourselves, buy their product, or buy the equally overcharged product of the competitors. -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination
celiac3270 replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link Yes! Here we go--after a bit of searching. The article was from WebMD, posted by gf4life (Mariann). Anyway, the figure is actually 20% -- I would've guessed 25%, which is slightly high, but anyway, I found the actual #, yay! Anyway, this probably helps to answer your question. Definitely read the article--fascinating that... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination
celiac3270 replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes--I actually think the number was higher, but I wanted to play it safe, so I lowered my estimate a bit--I can't remember where I saw that, though! Which chips did you try that had barley malt? -
ARCHIVED Obstacles Faced By Celiacs
celiac3270 replied to ResearcheringCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been around supportive/understanding people too--for the most part. Everyone in my family has been supportive and understanding--trying to learn a bit about celiac disease, etc.--my 80-year-old grandparents started bringing in gluten-free foods from a healthfood store in CT that we couldn't find in NYC and mainstream gluten-free products--in GREAT BULK... -
ARCHIVED Wondering If...
celiac3270 replied to tmc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unless you're planning on Enterolab testing, which most doctors will not accept, you shouldn't cut back on gluten. There's nothing wrong with experimenting with gluten-free foods and such so you will already have found some good ones before you really have to start the diet, but you shouldn't cut back since you want to get accurate results. Try not... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination
celiac3270 replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sure--it could be. Somebody posted an article here that something like 15% of all foods labeled gluten-free contain trace amounts of gluten--or some figure like that. It's quite scary, actually. The companies, though, cannot simply write gluten-free on a package of spelt bread, though. Then, of course, companies such as Lays could have contaminated... -
ARCHIVED Gf Rice Crackers - Strange Label
celiac3270 replied to glen4cindy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's gluten-free and wheat-free. I know those crackers--I eat them pretty often. They're Edwards and Sons Brown Rice Snaps (cheddar). It is confusing, but I've seen a couple of products labeled that way. -
I've never actually dealt with enterolab, but I can give you the general consensus with the latter two questions: I don't know specifically about Buffalo, but most doctors do not accept Enterolab results. Second, unless you've been on the gluten-free diet for a LONG, LONG, time, being gluten-free won't affect the results. So if you've been on the diet...
