ARCHIVED Atkins Advantage Bars?
celiac3270 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes...that was the one I was about to eat until I saw malt on the label...that's pathetic and...not right...that a company would claim it's gluten-free, yet it has malt on the label! It makes you wonder if you can trust the company at all-- Thank you for jogging my memory, too -
ARCHIVED Dough Enhancer/bread Making Questions
celiac3270 replied to flboysmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeast is gluten-free, but if this enhancer contains natural or artificial flavors, it might not be gluten-free. There are a multitude of possible questionable ingredients and places where wheat might be hidden. Your best bet is just to call the manufacturer. -
LOL....I had dial-up for a long time until the connection got so slow that I'd try to pull up a website, walk away and do something else, then come back in twenty minutes to check. My parents decided it was enough Thank you for sharing, Kristina

ARCHIVED Atkins Advantage Bars?
celiac3270 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Someone here e-mailed Atkins awhile back and received a long gluten-free list. Many of the Atkins Advantage bars are gluten-free and in a second I'll go find that link. However, I think I remember one of the bars on the list to have "malt" in the ingredients. I was appalled to read that and thus, didn't eat that type of bar. I've found that all Atkins... -
ARCHIVED Pasta
celiac3270 replied to JUDI42MIL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you call the company? Does it say gluten-free on the package or did you eat it because the ingredients didn't seem to show gluten. I'm not sure what pasta that is, but maybe it's not produced in a gluten-free facility? Anything else new that you tried within the past....48 hours? -
ARCHIVED Smoking Cigarettes And Celiac
celiac3270 replied to msserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, you wouldn't want to use a lotion that contains gluten on your hands, because if you ate or prepared something with your hands, you could get the lotion on it. Additionally, the lotion could get under your fingernails or something. However, gluten is not absorbed through your skin, so provided that you could guarantee that the lotion wouldn't get... -
Very cool idea......these will be interesting to read....i don't have one diagnosis story that i can use...I guess i sorta type it up each time so each time it's a little differently structured. I should probably type up one and save it........ahh, rambling. cool idea, though, I'll post back later when I have a little time to spare to write my story

ARCHIVED No Celiac Chat Sites
celiac3270 replied to Grissomz's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
LOL... Yes, that's another obstacle...there's a three hour difference between the east coast and the west coast...then there are also people from the UK on many of these boards.....there's a 5 hour difference between the east coast of the US and the UK....etc. -
ARCHIVED Recovering Anorexic/bulimic And Scared
celiac3270 replied to bessiejay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes...gluten has a lot of strange and different effects....I mean, some people get sort of addictions to gluten and they crave the foods that make them sick (pizzas, breads, etc.) I bet many celiacs here were bread/pizza/pasta lovers before diagnosis. Then there are those who had aversions to such foods because they made them sick.....it's all very confusing -
ARCHIVED Smoking Cigarettes And Celiac
celiac3270 replied to msserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes.....if not, I think they have patches. Since gluten can't be absorbed into the blood stream from lotions, etc., a patch would be safe regardless of whether it contained gluten. -
ARCHIVED No Celiac Chat Sites
celiac3270 replied to Grissomz's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am a member there, but don't post--you're required to be a member to read the boards, so I joined for that purpose... Thanks for the information, Richard. -
ARCHIVED College Celiac
celiac3270 replied to irishchick04's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If you have space in your room, you might try getting one of the following: toaster oven, george foreman grill, hotplate. If you get a hotplate, you can cook anything you'd cook on a burner at home--that means you can have your gluten-free noodles, etc. The toaster oven is helpful because you can not only toast breads, but make potatoes, Ore Ida french... -
ARCHIVED Is Dieter's Tea Gf?
celiac3270 replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lipton is fine...that's what i use...I agree..call the company if there's a number on the package. You might as well, cause even if the ingredients look fine, some companies don't claim to be gluten-free due to facilities that also manufacture wheat products. -
ARCHIVED Some Places To Go While In Manhattan!
celiac3270 replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thank you ....I have never investigated into all the options, living in Manhattan. Though I knew about the MANY healthfood stores, I didn't realize all the gluten-free options in the city! I will be checking all these out! And I didn't know Joseph's bakery delivered! -
You can use a program to change the size of your picture and I would recommend doing that... Then, just make it so that it fits the required settings for the avatars:

ARCHIVED Gf With Celiac
celiac3270 replied to Derek's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's really caring/nice of you to be interested in taking an active role in this and helping her. If you're going to eat fastfood, I'd advise you to eat at McDonalds. Assuming that you live in the USA, here is the gluten-free lists for all USA McDonalds restaurants: Open Original Shared Link. I'm not sure about other fastfood places cause the only... -

Yes, congratulations! Karen, when were you diagnosed? I didn't realize that you had been on this diet for years and were STILL having symptom problems. -
ARCHIVED My Hopes And Dreams For 2005....
celiac3270 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, Happy New Year, everyone! I have similar hopes to yours . Also, I heard Dr. Green talk on NPR a couple weeks ago. He said that within the next five years, there will very likely be a treatment (not cure) for celiac. It won't allow you to eat wheat, but, I guess it would heal your intestines and perhaps aid your digestive system. I guess the... -
ARCHIVED No Celiac Chat Sites
celiac3270 replied to Grissomz's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh, I went to the Delphi site, but I can't get the chat room feature to work...maybe nobody else was on--that might have been my problem. With some chat rooms, they only work if someone is already at the page waiting or something weird like that. I saw the feature, though -
ARCHIVED No Celiac Chat Sites
celiac3270 replied to Grissomz's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh, wow...I didn't know there was a chat room at Delphi Forums! Never seen that...then again, I don't spend much time there...i'll go check it out, but I still like message boards -
Thank you Oh, I was updated slightly, too---see the link I provided before....I didn't realize that Red deleted the posts himself...I thought it was Scott due to complaints about their length. He also left a link about msg. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Smoking Cigarettes And Celiac
celiac3270 replied to msserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There probably are some that are gluten-free and probably some contain gluten. I would just think that they would have gluten since they do contain so many ingredients and it seems that the cigarette companies throw everything into their product. I'm almost 14 and about two years ago in school they had this....talk to discourage people from smoking, drugs... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Starch
celiac3270 replied to traci's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In Europe, wheat starch is acceptable in a gluten-free food and is considered to be gluten-free. It is not in the United States. Basically, you can trust in the Europeans or you can play it safe. -
ARCHIVED No Celiac Chat Sites
celiac3270 replied to Grissomz's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
No, I haven't found a celiac chat room, either. There are many message boards and I've been to a few, but I like this one best--enough information to be useful, but small enough to be personal and for you to actually feel like you know the people here. I think that in a way, a message board is better than a chat room. If you have AIM, AOL, Yahoo Instant...
