  1. I think all of you summed it up nicely--Merry Christmas!
  2. I've read that too....I think this is true with all the animals we eat---otherwise, we'd be at risk when we ate any meat, as well, right?
  3. I think this is the problem. When we talk about gluten, we're referring to the protein in wheat, rye, oat, barley, etc. that makes us sick. However, many gluten-free ingredients have "gluten", as well....but their gluten is not one from wheat, rye, etc....perhaps it comes from rice or something....so it's fine. Simply, gluten doesn't refer to the protein...
  4. Yes....the sugars of certain fruits are hard to digest, as well. Certain fruits to be wary of if you still have symptoms are grapes, watermelons, etc. Acid could be a problem--do you sometimes eat oranges or pineapples from Dole or as part of a mix? Additionally, the skin of an apple can be hard to digest. ....just a few things i thought of.....I...
  5. Elmer's is gluten-free? I had never called, so I wouldn't know, but I thought i heard somewhere that they weren't....you're probably right, though.....
  6. I took enzymes for about a week, but they made me very nauseaous...I felt worse than before....though the enzymes were gluten-free....I stopped them and haven't tried any since--you might as well try enzymes, though...I think they've helped many. Oh, I took...I think it was: Lipram CR-10....or something like it.
  7. Fascinating...thanks for posting. Really, it seems, nobody should eat wheat--it's cheap, though, and people think, for example, if they're eating whole wheat bread, that they're doing their body a favor...hmm.
  8. Yep.....I'm turning fourteen in January. Like I said before, it would probably help your daughter to accept it if everyone around her accepted it, too. In terms of convincing disbelieving relatives, I would suggest, if you haven't already, printing a few serious, but comprehendable articles about celiac and the risk factors. After all, they might care...
  9. That is interesting.....and another opportunity for greater recognition of celiac.
  10. Oh, Tiffany, with the Quaker rice cakes I THINK that all of the large ones are gluten-free....and the minis are problematic.....I haven't had them in months, though, so i can't remember the full list
  11. What "flavor" of rice cakes do you use?--i don't know if there's a plain, cause i've always had a flavored rice cake. Thanks
  12. Sure.....oats are nearly always contaminated. Additionally, you can feel the effects of gluten minutes or days after eating it.
  13. I think Kristina (mysuicidalturtle) is absolutely right. You have no other choice. Basically, if they care about your daughter and if they want to have extended visits, they have to accomodate or at least, let you send food and not offer gluten. I think the bigger problem, though, is that your daughter is in denial about it, herself. Ultimately, it...
  14. Wafer--there's the gluten....though I'm surprised that the gluten doesn't show up on the label--that it doesn't say "wheat" somewhere in there".... There are many gluten-free ice creams. Most of Haagen-Dazs is gluten-free, as with Edys, I believe. I have a list from Haagen-Dazs that I posted a couple months ago, I guess. I haven't bothered to investigate...
  15. yea...Snickers are gluten-free...I eat them all the time....

    ARCHIVED Homeopathic Remedy

Thanks for the advice .....actually, I just went back to Dr. Aurigemma today...and got a different remedy to try. I found it interesting to read about not to eat foods over and over--unfortunately, I do that far too much
  17. Surgery may trigger celiac, but now that you have it, you have nothing to trigger . Of course you can have surgery
  18. In the US, and in foods, maltodextrin is gluten-free. In pharmaceuticals, you should be more careful, but for regular foods, you're fine...again, I don't have a website, but a book.
  19. I have two boxes in the cabinet -- one cost $3.59, the other, $3.69. They make a nice amount of cookies, too. I have LOVED everything I've tried from Arrowhead Mills: the Rice and Shine hot cereal, the chocolate chip cookies, and the white cake is pretty good, too.
  20. This specific board has been here since Dec. 31, 2003. There was, however, another board that was here before then. Because it was more cumbersome to navigate, a new board was created. The board still exists and you can read old topics...the old homepage is here: Open Original Shared Link.
  21. I agree...that's fascinating. Unfortunately, I have far too many of the cravings on there ....sweets, chocolate, oily/fatty foods, etc. to name a few--and cravings--not just a strong liking for....
  22. Also, for the cooking-challenged (or those who just don't like to cook), Arrowhead Mills has a choc. chip cookie mix--amazing cookies
  23. Don't worry, Splenda is gluten-free... It can, in some people, cause symptoms similar to celiac, but that is only due to the type of artificial sweetener that is used in the product....this sweetener does not affect all. But there is no gluten in it...so enjoy!
  24. At school, ice cream deserts are nearly always made by "Hood"...so I got their gluten-free list...and thought i'd share :
  25. Okay... thanks....i'll stick with...other cereals.
