ARCHIVED "glutened" By Antibiotics?/same Reaction? Please Help!
Jennas-auntie replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think your acupuncturist is probably right. Antibiotics frequently not only kill off whatever harmful bug you have in your system but also the helpful bacteria you have in your GI system. Even with the probiotics it is quite possible you will have a shift in what is growing in your colon, and might have the diarrhea because of what has already died off... -

Jennas-auntie replied to Soo B's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
--> QUOTE(Soo B @ Aug 3 2006, 11:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm traveling to the St. Paul, Minnesota area, and am wondering if anyone has any experience in this area. Thanks! I'd check out the Northland Celiac webpage (Open Original Shared Link). We've used that info, they have ideas for local grocery stores that carry gluten-free food and... -
ARCHIVED Attn: Non-celiacs....i Need Your Help
Jennas-auntie replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You're welcome & thanks! One other thing that was sooo helpful to me as a clueless relative trying to become knowledgeable at the beginning was when I tried to make something gluten-free...and it wasn't. Some people would hear the "thanks but I can't/she can't eat that" and get defensive, I might have too, but my SIL was so good about being very thankful... -
ARCHIVED Attn: Non-celiacs....i Need Your Help
Jennas-auntie replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! I think the family issues must be one of the tougher aspects of the disease. In my case, when my neice was diagnosed none of us really knew anything much about celiac. As I learned more, I just felt that there should be at least one other house she could go and know there would be some gluten-free food there in her own box that she could eat. When... -
Just an update, in case anyone wants to know: Let's Dish never got back to me, but Sociale did. The first letter from the owner said she thought the idea of marking which dishes are/could be made gluten free on their actual website was a good one and they are going to work on that (they had the peanut allergy marked on some dishes, and which are/could be...

According to the Silly-Yak's Restaurant Guide, Steak Escape claims their steak, fries, and chicken are gluten-free (nothing else). This is updated as of Feb. 2006. However, if cc is an issue, maybe safer to stay away from. We don't have them nearby so I wouldn't know.

ARCHIVED Millet Pancakes - Vegan
Jennas-auntie replied to graindamage's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oooh, sounds good! Thanks for the recipe! -
Ok, I was shocked to see on our local news that of the "Make and Take" meal places sprouting up, TWO have gluten free dishes available as options. These are the places you go in and they have all the products there for you and you assemble them and can take them home and freeze them for easy meals. Now, I've never done this because I've always frozen my...

ARCHIVED Son's Labs - What Does Hladq2 & Hladq8 Mean?
Jennas-auntie replied to btm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's good news that he doesn't have it at this time! Just wondering-have you ever been tested for celiac? The current research suggests about 8-10% of all type 1 diabetics have celiac also. Open Original Shared Link One third of HLA DQ2 homozygous patients with type 1 diabetes express celiac disease-associated transglutaminase autoantibodies, according... -
ARCHIVED Banquet Crock Pot Meal-the Chicken And Rice
Jennas-auntie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, it is fairly simple just to make your own crock pot recipe, but...the other day I saw the Banquet Crock Pot Meals (in the red bags in the freezer section) and picked up the rice and chicken one. I flipped it over and read the ingredients...saw it was made by Con-Agra, which is supposed to be one of the "safe" companies (won't hide gluten). It looked... -

Jennas-auntie replied to cmcminnesotan's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi and welcome! Sometimes people just don't see posts, always feel free to post again! I know a lot of people on here really like Zoj-I think they are expensive though. I just have a West Bend machine and have had no problems using it for gluten free bread recipes. You can buy the mixes too, Anna's is quite popular, or the Gluten Free Pantry also has... -
ARCHIVED My Psychologist Is Interested In Celiac Connection
Jennas-auntie replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, Italy screens all schoolchildren prior to beginning school by age 5 or 6, I believe. They know it is important because of how untreated celiac can lead to inattention and learning difficulties. Their celiac "rate" is considered high at 1 in 100 or so, but that may well be just because they screen everyone and are more likely to find out about it. ... -
ARCHIVED Freeze Dried Camping Food
Jennas-auntie replied to Lesliean's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
These are great suggestions, this is stuff I like to know. I find out stuff on this forum I never even thought of asking. If we're discussing camping, don't forget the great suggestion someone made on this forum earlier for s'mores-one marshmallow between two gluten-free chocolate chip cookies-yum! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know What This Could Be?
Jennas-auntie replied to Phila's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, please get these checked out-I agree you may need to see a dermatologist. Any time a mole starts crusting over, consider getting checked out. Unfortunately I am fairly well versed in this area since my dad died of melanoma. The incidence of melanoma is much more common today and appears to keep increasing, possibly because we are getting less... -

ARCHIVED Asso. Press Article - Goodbye Wheat, Hello Amaranth, Say Consumers
Jennas-auntie replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
Isn't it what they use for that new Sara Lee bread that looks like white bread but it's really "wheat" bread? I know a girl who won't eat anything but white bread and she loves the stuff because it is supposed to be healthier (if you aren't on a gluten-free diet anyway!) -
ARCHIVED Ever Made Doughnuts?
Jennas-auntie replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That looks good, I'll have to try it! I've made gluten-free doughnuts before using the recipe below, but I used a doughnut pan instead of a doughnut maker. It's supposed to be healthier because you bake them instead of fry them, but I thought they dried out faster possibly, than fried. I think if I had fried them they would not have dried out so quickly... -
ARCHIVED Can 2 Negatives And A Weak + Mean Celiac?
Jennas-auntie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only thing I have run into in the literature is that I've read in certain cases the tTG can be elevated from more than just celiac, basically it can be elevated in giardia and in certain protein intolerances (like some people have with chicken or tuna) and some incredibly rare genetic disorders. However, if your EMA is positive, that is highly celiac... -
ARCHIVED Sushi Style Children's Rice Cakes
Jennas-auntie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sushi Style Children’s Rice Cakes In Japan they have a whole category of sushi called “children’s sushi”. The kids I know (all under 6) aren’t much into sushi yet (though I’m trying!) but they will eat this. I let them pick out the color and shape. Keep in mind kids like more bite sized stuff, so you might be better off using petite cookie cutters (fl...
