  1. Yes, Mug's Root Beer is gluten free. They claim that on their website actually. Open Original Shared Link I just had to look this up a couple of weeks ago, only reason I know. There might be other stuff in it that your body doesn't do well with, you can get a listing of all their ingredients on there if you want.
  2. Hi! According to some pathologists, Membraneous Glomerulopathy can be almost indistinguishable from Level 5 glomerulopathy caused by lupus. You may not have that of course...but lupus is linked to celiac disease, though perhaps membraneous glomerulopathy is not. You can also get glomerulonephritis (not membraneous glomerulopathy, but it is another...
  3. Yes this is interesting. There have been multiple studies on this, here is one of the first that described this scenario (why the incidence rose or fell). Open Original Shared Link They basically theorize that the genetics is remaining the same in the UK and Sweden, but that the delay of introduction of gluten to the diet and breastfeeding can lower the...
  4. Thanks guys for letting us know the strawberry is also gluten free for now!
  5. Hi! Welcome to the board. I have learned so much by reading posts here. I'm sure others will weigh in about the medication, for that I don't know. I do think, however, that one of the first things you can do is get the actual copies of your test results. I know of one case in my hometown where a woman with chronic thyroid problems was told her celiac...
  6. ChelsE, yes I agree with you about who needs barley malt to flavor strawberries? Artifical strawberry flavoring is amazingly comlicated though! Typically it contains between 40-60 ingredients. Why can't they just put strawberry in it? Here's a list of what commonly goes into "artificial strawberry flavoring"....The McDonald's strawberry shake has more...
  7. I've been hearing that even if oats are processed in a dedicated way and therefore uncontaminated (which basically you can't get in the U.S. except for the imported Irish Oats and from that FFA student in Idaho), 5-10% of celiacs react to oats period. Does this mean that 90-95% of celiacs, if they had uncontaminated oats, would be fine with them? Is there...
  8. I don't know about the cc issues, but if it isn't a problem, that would be great. Most of the cereals that are "mainstream" that my niece can eat have sugar as a first or second ingredient, I think. (At least this one it's third on the list...).
  9. Well, according to the Wheaton group, all varieties of Gatorade are gluten-free as of March 2006 (here's their site, they list other stuff too like vitamins and supplements etc.) Open Original Shared Link. Gatorade doesn't make it real easy to find it on their own website though-at least, it isn't in their FAQs or nutritional info.
  10. I volunteered at the National Bone Marrow Registry Day in my local city spring before last, and was curious if it was on their list, so I asked, and was told at this time celiac is on the "no donate" list. So no at 4/2005 anyway.
  11. Yeah, it's pretty crazy...but I agree with Tiffany in that I think things will get better as we educate them. After all, they eventually came around to H. pylori causing ulcers instead of stress. Also it would help if there was a bit more credit given to the patient, as in, "This might not be the easiest thing, but you can do it" vs. "nobody can stay on...
  12. I know they've been keeping her away from the playdough, but I don't think the crayons and paint are something that's been considered-I'll check, you learn something new every day-Thanks!!
  13. Yes, definitely, you can still have it. Dr. Murray of the Mayo clinic calls these people "nutritionally compensated" and said that celiac should not be excluded as a possibility due to being overweight, normal weight, or being tall.
  14. I think bombarding offices with brochures is a great idea. I've actually considered this with our local doctor's office, since one thing I found (used to clean for a clinic) was that people will read almost ANYTHING left in the break room. Now, the docs themselves might not eat there, since they often eat at their offices, but I've thought about bringing...
  15. I found the following recently as my 5 year old niece also has gained almost no weight since being put on the diet (just over 1 year), and her parents are pretty sure they are 100% gluten-free-they are getting her tested next week for other things like additional food intolerances and such. This is a really interesting post, guys, thanks, and if anyone has...
  16. I have used a bagel recipe I found in The Gluten Free Gourmet Cooks Bread by Bette Hagman (I checked out every library book our library had on gluten free cooking, and this was the only bagel recipe I found). It's a great recipe, kind of involved, but they taste great. She has plain, cinnamon, and cinnamon-raisin but it would be totally easy to put in dried...
  17. Wow you guys are fast! Thanks for all the suggestions, I am writing them all down and will go check out the aisles, and thanks for the recipe Guhlia! I will also take up the suggestion to just grease it, no flour. Thanks so much everyone!
  18. Hi! Thought I'd ask you folks as the experts: I am having a birthday party for my son this Saturday and would like to make a gluten free cake in a cake tin so my niece can participate. I purchased one of those Wilton cake pans and will likely make a bee for the nongluten cake and a ladybug for the gluten-free one. I'll make the gluten-free one first...
  19. Also just found this listing, though you'd want to double check probably. Give some ideas on where to start and what people like. Open Original Shared Link
  20. Hi! Jelly Belly has just come out with "Sport Beans" recently. I checked with the company and they are gluten free (here is the response) Your Question : Are your Sport Beans gluten free? Thanks- ---------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for visiting our site. We hope the following information answers your question. ...
