ARCHIVED Dental Enamel Defects
GravStars replied to GravStars's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you know what exactly is it about celiac disease that causes the enamel to erode? Nutritional deficiency? As far as I know, the usual cause of enamel erosion is stomach acid, as from chronic reflux or vomiting. -
ARCHIVED Dental Enamel Defects
GravStars posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What exactly are the kinds of "dental enamel defects" that occur in some people with celiac disease? Is erosion of the enamel, causing the teeth to become thinner and more transparent, one of those defects? -
ARCHIVED Biocard - Anyone Tried This Home Test For Celiacs?
GravStars replied to SuzyQ2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is the BioCard test available in America yet? It doesn't look like it. Supposedly it was supposed to be approved by the FDA this year. -
ARCHIVED Maltodextrin Is gluten-free?
GravStars posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I came across this at glutenfreeliving.com: "Maltodextrin is gluten free. It can be made from a variety of starches, including corn, potato, rice or wheat. However the source does not matter because maltodextrin is such a highly processed ingredient that the protein is removed, rendering it gluten free. If wheat is used to make maltodextrin, "wheat" will... -
Thanks. I don't think its a coincidence that when my abdominal distension/bloating first appeared that simultaneously with it I first developed rosacea redness and neither have completely left since. so I definitely think there's a gut/skin connection... As for psoriasis, I will have to look in to that more. But what I've read of it and the pictures I...

Tuesday night I decided to test my reaction to eating gluten (I'm undiagnosed, no way to see a doc right now) so I ate some chicken noodle soup and chocolate chip cookies. A few hours later I noticed 2 tiny blood red blisters on my right forearm (literally looked like blood). There was also a third bump that was a lighter red (the usual color). Today the...

ARCHIVED Quinoa And Amaranth
GravStars posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Although quinoa and amaranth contain no gluten, I read in a book I saw at the bookstore recently that they are sometimes processed alongside gluten grains and may not be safe unless labeled gluten free. Has anyone had a reaction to either of those grains? -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Steel Cut Oats
GravStars replied to GravStars's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, the package I have is the gluten free version. On a side note, I'm sure I only paid 5 or 6 bucks for the package and I don't think they were on sale. I got them at Kroger in the natural foods section. Maybe they're more expensive at health food stores (as most things seem to be)? $8-10 is pretty steep! Anyway, I'm gonna stay away from them for... -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Steel Cut Oats
GravStars posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anyone have a problem with these? I'm still trying to determine through diet (unsuccessfully for the most part) if I have celiac, but the first time I ate these after going gluten-free I broke out in red itchy bumps on my forearms the following day, and the 2nd time (last week) my abdomen felt really heavy and bloated (more than usual that is). I'm thinking... -
ARCHIVED Muir Glen Soup & Health Valley Chili
GravStars posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Muir Glen Chicken and Wild Rice Soup Health Valley Vegetarian Chili According to what I've read online these are supposed to be safe, but has anyone ever had a reaction to them? The Muir Glen soup (some of their soups contain gluten but the chicken and wild rice supposedly does not) seems to aggravate the itchy bumps on my arms (which may or may not be... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Dh Similar To This...?
GravStars replied to GravStars's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks. I don't have a job or insurance so I can't see a doc right now, which is why I asked here. I don't know what else it could be except hives (but it doesn't look like pictures of hives either) or a food intolerance/reaction. -
I do not know yet for certain if I have celiac disease or not, so I do not know if what I have is DH. But I literally cannot find a picture of DH online that looks like what I get, which are small reddish bumps mostly on my upper arms, sometimes forearms, abdomen, back and legs. I usually only have 1 or 2 at a time on each arm, 3 or 4 at the most. They are...

ARCHIVED Stuck In Gluten Limbo
GravStars replied to GravStars's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's exactly the problem - I don't trust my family to be careful enough. It just ain't gonna happen. Unfortunately as I am jobless I cannot afford anything like a small fridge. However I have asked for a rice cooker/steamer for Christmas so maybe that will help. I don't know what else to do right now... -

ARCHIVED Stuck In Gluten Limbo
GravStars posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So I'm about 6-months gluten free and still not feeling better, still getting these itchy bumps on my arms, legs and abdomen (I'm undiagnosed). I've eliminated Amy's gluten-free meals after reading that some people react to them, and am now trying to avoid ANY product that is likely to be produced in a facility with gluten. But if I'm getting glutened its... -
ARCHIVED Can Dh Get Worse For A While After Going gluten-free?
GravStars posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
OK, I asked recently if it could take DH a while to clear up after going gluten-free, now I'm wondering if anyone has experienced it getting WORSE after going gluten-free? I'm undiagnosed, been gluten free for about 3 months, not feeling much better. Before going gluten-free I had itchy bumps on my legs and upper arms but since giving up gluten these itchy... -
ARCHIVED Can You Still Break Out In Dh For A While After Going gluten-free?
GravStars replied to GravStars's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis

ARCHIVED Can You Still Break Out In Dh For A While After Going gluten-free?
GravStars posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi everyone. After several years of wondering about celiac and brief periods of being gluten-free, I've finally made it about 3 months with no gluten (I could never make it longer than a few weeks at a time in the past, for various reasons). I'm not feeling that much better but I could be getting CC'd here as other people are pretty messy and leave crumbs... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins With Barley Grass
GravStars posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a bottle of Rainbow Lite vitamins and it says on the bottle that its free of gluten yet one of the ingredients is barley grass. So I should obviously not take this, right? Or is the grass form of barley safe? -
ARCHIVED Little Red Bumps
GravStars replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get these too. At first I suspected bug bites but 2 years later, I'm pretty sure they are not. I also only get a few at a time, on my legs or for the past year on my upper arms. Sometimes they itch, sometimes not. I am undiagnosed so I don't know what it is for sure but it does makes me wonder if there's a gluten connection, maybe some mild form of DH?... -
I have read many times on this forum that if you have DH, you automatically have a diagnosis of celiac disease. But then I come across this: "DH... is an allergy of the IgA system. IgA is an antibody produced in the lining of the intestines. The usual allergy treatments are useless. The gut may also be affected by this allergy; this is called gluten-sensitive...
