Amstel Light is not gluten free, neither is Heineken. -
ARCHIVED Frozen Yogurt?
Kim replied to starlitgrl27's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many TCBY flavors are gluten-free. They have a listing on their website and you can (and probably should) call the company to confirm that the list is accurate and up to date. I've eaten TCBY without problem. Kim. -
I have to agree == it's worth every penny == Very, very good bread. It's just wonderful. Kim.

I believe, but am not positive, that Logics brand hair color is gluten-free. You should check to be sure. Kim.

Are you sure it's the yeast that's doing that? If you're just starting out, why not try starting with a mix -- it's hard enough to bake/cook gluten-free, yeast breads may not be the best starting place. It could be a number of factors: too much salt, not enough xanthan gum -- those two come to mind first. Good luck. Kim, Atlanta,GA

Janine, It's hard to get used to speaking up -- it took me a while, but you do get used to it and it is your health at steak. For the vast majority of restaurants, they want you to have a nice dining experience and don't mind you speaking up. It just takes some getting used to -- to find what wording works for you and, the more you know about cooking...

ARCHIVED Travel In Berlin And Prague
Kim replied to cynthia's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've been to Prague and did just fine. Don't recall any specific restaurants, just remember the blueberry gelato which was awesome. I did bring a gluten-free restaurant card which can be helpful. Enjoy the trip. Kim, Atlanta, GA -
ARCHIVED Margaritas?
Kim replied to JUDI42MIL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Judy,, It sounds gluten-free to me. As long as the lime and lemon juices are pure (no additives that have Gluten), then you're fine. Enjoy. Kim, Atlanta, GA -
I haven't been there, but if it's Benihana then I would think you would have issues with soy sauce and cross contamination on both the grill and the knives and because they cook for a group, I'm not sure it would work. I usually do very well at breakfast. I get eggs/omellette (RECONFIRM with the waiter that the eggs are just eggs, some places add flour...

I have flown to Europe many times on Delta with gluten-free food requests. For the most part, the protein part of the meal will be fine, if a little plain. Omellette for breakfast, plain chicken or beef for dinner, etc, some veggies or salad. Bring some individual packets of salad dressing with you as once in a while, they serve a dressing that I can...

I have frozen mine and it's been just fine. (frozen before and after baking). Kim, Atlanta, GA

ARCHIVED Vanilla Extract Question
Kim replied to HeatherMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Heather, CRC is correct. Even Kroger and Tones are gluten-free, but the easiest thing to do is to call the manufacturer to be sure. Avoid any "imitation" flavorings. Good luck. Kim. -
ARCHIVED My Hair Is Falling Out!
Kim replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Karen is right -- it could be nothing, but to be on the safe side, I would suggest you have your thyroid checked. Kim, Atlanta, GA -
Jean, which Marriott are you staying at -- if you let me know, I can recommend places near you (I assume you'll want walking distance? or will you have a car?). Kim, Atlanta

I can't help you with LA, but I go to Vegas quite often. There is an Outback on the strip right between Venetian and Harrahs, so if you don't feel like venturing, that's always an option. I avoid the buffets, but do very well in Vegas. Lots to choose from. A phenomenal steak restaurant (Seven) in the Palms Hotel. One of my absolute favorites. There...

ARCHIVED Gf Stores Around Chicago
Kim replied to Dwight Senne's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
There's also a store called Sunset Foods, has several locations, which have a good gluten-free selection. Kim. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Beer
Kim replied to WayneB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried the Ramapo Valley Beer and it was fine (I was never a huge beer person, but it tasted like beer). The problem I had with it was the bottles weren't sealed well and 2 bottles out of 6 leaked beer all over my trunk. (the bottles didn't break, they leaked). Just thought you should know. Kim. -
The Zojirushi machine is what I have and I like it a lot. Kim, Atlanta, GA

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dough Enhancer
Kim replied to catfish's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
First, the Manna from Anna will taste just fine without it. Dough enhancer is a dry granule that comes in a small container -- it can add "elasticity" or gluten-like qualities to your bread. However, the Manna from Anna Mix has xanthan gum in it and will taste great without it. I've personally never noticed much improvement using the product, as long... -
ARCHIVED Characteristics Of Flours
Kim replied to catfish's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One of Bette Hagman's books has a chart in the beginng about the flours, particulary protein content, etc. for them. As you experiment, you'll pick up more and be able to tell what will work and won't. I recommend buying some of the flours and "playing" with them -- literally, put a little in your hand and feel it -- see how gritty it is, how heavy it... -
ARCHIVED Starting Out
Kim replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome. Contact the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Program -- they send care baskets to newly-diagnosed patients. I think, at least at first, it's easier to use mixes than cookbooks. It's overwhelming enough to go gluten-free and I think learning to bake from scratch gluten-free can be difficult and probably best after being on the gluten-free diet... -
I made delicious gluten-free crabcakes -- a combination of egg and mayo helped hold together. They didn't fall apart at all and tasted just like "regular" crabcakes. Good luck. Kim.

ARCHIVED Wheat Germ
Kim replied to admcs13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
