Hi Michelle, I've had no problems. I explained what was not okay (wheat, etc..) and said I had a food allergy and couldn't have soy sauce. I ate pad tai for sure. We had several items, I can't remember everything, but I didn't have any problems. and the food was really good (and conveniently located for me). Any curry/coconut milk based food will be...

The Shrek ones are gluten-free, the Disney (I think by Kellogg and this is the only thing by Kellogg that is gluten-free) are gluten-free. Betty Crocker are as well, but I don't remember which "characters" they use. Kim. -
ARCHIVED Vegas - Paris Hotel Buffet
Kim replied to sunshine20's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've eaten at the Paris buffet for breakfast and I assume yours is dinner. I highly recommend speaking with one of the chefs. I did and He took me around and showed me exactly what I could have and he also brought me something that he made (I think it was hashbrowns or something like that) so there wouldn't be cross=contamination. You just need to speak... -
ARCHIVED What About Balsamic Vinegar?

Tiffany, it's interesting that you say they have additives. I've only ever seen pure balsamic. good to know. Kim. -
ARCHIVED What About Balsamic Vinegar?
Kim replied to wolffree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Balsamic vinegar is fine -- it is gluten free. Vinegar in general is fine -- including distilled vinegar. The only vinegar that is NOT okay is malt vinegar. That has gluten. Welcome to the gluten free world. also, you can marinate with gluten free soy sauce (last I checked, La Choy is gluten free as is San J). Most soy sauce does have wheat... -

Sara, I agree. Her bread is great! Kim. -
If you can get a group of (fun) people together, the Imperial Fez (Morroccan) is a lot of fun and very gluten-free friendly. Twist and Prime (in Lenox and Phipps Plaza) and Goldfish (Perimeter) are all owned by the same company and I've had very good meals at all three, with attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Never a problem. Phuket Tai (Buford...

The Marriott Marquis is downtown. There are several restaurants there including Morton's Steakhouse (be sure to instruct that they not put the au jui on the steak as that contains gluten) Dailey's (be very explicit in your instructions and speak with the chef/manager, not just the waiter). If you take a subway/cab to Buckhead, there are lots of great places...

I don't there, but just wanted to make sure you are aware of the Columbia University Celiac Disease Program. 212-342-0251. They are nationally recognized as experts in celiac disease so you may wish to try them. Good luck. Kim.

ARCHIVED Gf Multivitamins?

Pioneer has a gluten-free chewable vitamin. You may want to take chewable because your body absorbs the vitamins/minerals better. good luck. Kim. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Jra/celiac Connection?
Kim replied to HeidiLeigh29's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would absolutely, positively get your children tested for celiac immediately. Why wait (and suffer) 6 months? Make sure your doctor runs all 5 bloodtests, not just 3. You may, or may not, know this, but you won't want to put your children on a gluten free diet until they're finished running diagnostic tests (blood and biopsy). If you post where you are... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vs Celiac Sprue?
Kim replied to catfish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's much better NOT to start a gluten-free diet before the biopsy is completed. It's important for accurate diagnosis that you be ingesting gluten. Celiac and celiac sprue are the same thing. Non-tropical celiac sprue is more serious, but also treated with a gluten-free diet. Most people say celiac or celiac disease, but celiac sprue is also the same... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Daughter
Kim replied to LeeV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lee. I think it is wise for you to try to eliminate the dairy (for now) for 2 reasons: 1. in general, it's good to avoid dairy when someone has diarhea. (2) More importantly, the enzymes that we use to digest dairy are at the tips of the villi -- if your daughter's villi are damaged (which they likely are right now), it will be hard to digest dairy until... -

Try the Pan Bar mix from 1-2-3 Gluten Free. You can make apple spice or pumpkin bars from the same mix. the mix makes a 9x13 pan and you can ice with cream cheese icing. Very good. www.123glutenfree.com -
The University of Chicago has an excellent celiac disease program. You might try them. Good Luck. Kim.

ARCHIVED 12mo Old Just Diagnosed
Kim replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughter can live a wonderful life. She (and you) will adjust -- in fact, it will probably require more adjustment from you than her, since she will look at gluten free as normal for her. You can cook generally gluten free for everyone -- for example, you can easily make meatballs and sauce gluten free and then just have 2 kinds of pasta (Gluten... -
I thought Panko was not gluten free? I'd check the label. Kim.

ARCHIVED Blood Test Positive
Kim replied to catfish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd strongly recommend getting the biopsy and knowing for sure whether you have celiac disease. Once you are off of gluten for a while, the only way you'll be able to tell is if you do a "gluten challenge" which generally is not a good idea. Of course, I'd recommend you discuss the pros/cons of a biopsy with a knowledgable Gastroenterologist. Good luck... -
ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old/endoscopy?
Kim replied to karen149's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can understand your concerns, but at the present time, an endoscopy is the only way to know for sure if your child has celiac disease. If you put her on the gluten free diet without it, then the only way you'll be able to tell if she has celiac disease is if you reintroduce gluten into her system (called a gluten challenge) which also has health risks ... -
ARCHIVED Went To Whole Foods For The First Time
Kim replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Whole Foods has a Whole Foods Generic Brand (365) cereal called Honey Frosted Flakes that are Gluten Free and fabulous. It's the only cereal I eat. If you buy a case (12), you get 10% off. I don't know if Sebastian is too young for sweetened cereal like that, but just thought you might want to know about it. Good luck. Kim. -

There are some great noodles (gluten-free) that I use just fine for my kugels -- they taste just the same. We also serve Un-matza balls in our house and everyone (even the non-celiacs) eat them and love them. We steam them with a steamer and they hold up just fine. I'll have to post the recipe to see what you were doing differently, Sara. Also, as far...

There is actually a gluten free vendors' fair (food fair) this Saturday in Farmington Hills Michigan. 11 am -2 pm First Presbyterian Church, 26165 Farmington Road (corner of 11 Mile Road). It's a good way to try gluten-free foods before you buy them and also you may be able to find people who live near you. Good luck. Kim. -

ARCHIVED 12 Yr Old Daughter Just Diagnosed
Kim replied to mdixon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Among experts in the field, there is absolutely no disagreement, the distillation process removes all traces of gluten. "There was never any reason to question the safety of vinegar." I really can't type the entire Gluten Free Living Article here, and, I agree, everyone who reads this cite has to make their own choices. Unfortunately, I also believe that...
