ARCHIVED What Do You Think?
Chako replied to Minnie2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Minnie! I am still researching all this myself and have found overwhelmingly that the testing is very unreliable for under 5 or in some cases you hear under 7 years of age. My middle son has undergone the celiac panel 2 times now and both times clear and no malabsorption issues seem evident, yet he has had chronic diarrhea for nearly 3 years and... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Fructose Malabsorption Here?
Chako replied to Chako's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks so much for your replies! Great information as always. Has anyone actually been tested and confirmed for this or is this another case of trial and error for determination? My GI said that she can not tell by scoping but that there is a genetic test available and also a hydrogen test should Curran be clear and no other obvious reasons for his irritiation... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Fructose Malabsorption Here?
Chako posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! I am sorry I have not been around for a bit. To bring you up to date (and to sum up) my 4 year old son has had chronic diarrhea and wicked responses to food for nearly 3 years now. Repeated celiac panels and bloodwork come back negative for celiac or malabsorption issues. The constant here is his chronically high SED rate indicating irritation (somewhere... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms?
Chako replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Does the child have any food aversions, vomiting or such? How old is the child? Reflux is a possibility as well since high aspiration can cause chronic sinus infections and GERD related asthma. My youngest has that. Plus he was food averted (100% to solids until he was diagnosed and put on reflux meds at the age of 14 months), failure to thrive and suffered... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Survival Kit
Chako replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What is the Delphi list? And would this survival kit be good for a Canadian? -
ARCHIVED Answer To Inquiry From Enterolab
Chako replied to Ursa Major's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for finding this out Ursula! I am one of the fellow Canucks who asked about this. We are still awaiting my son's bloodwork to come back and have another 2 to 4 weeks for his celiac test. His first one 2.5 years ago was negative. Since being around these boards I find far too much of Curran here. I will look into the testing once I get... -
ARCHIVED Craving What Hurts You?
Chako posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am curious as I have done a lot of reading on allergies and such and there is a lot of controversy that people crave foods that actually harms them. For instance, a person who loves milk and dairy and can not get enough of it may have a hidden allergy to it. The same may apply for gluten and I was wondering if anyone has found this to be the case for... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Feed A Kid For A Gluten Free Trial
Chako replied to Chako's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Kris. It is going to be hard to do this due to all his other food intolerances/ allergies. It is also difficult as he gags (and I mean GAGS) on most veggies. It is not a behavioural thing he just retches when eating them. Where he used to eat beans before he now retches and gags until he brings them pretty much back up again. Peas seem ok and... -
ARCHIVED Cellulites-has Anyone Had It? Dx Fri Am After High Fevers
Chako replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cellulitis is not something to mess with for certain. I am so sorry that you have it and I hope you are able to find some relief soon. My son was about 2 or 2.5 years old when he ran into a beaded toy (you know, the educational ones) and he nailed his little toe on one foot. We did not see any wound at all and after a good cry and a hug we were on... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Feed A Kid For A Gluten Free Trial
Chako posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 4 year old is reacting to the following: corn dairy (allergy) soy peanut and treenut (allergy) Some other foods like citrus seem to be hit and miss right now but I think they will be ok. We started a multiple elimination diet in January and he has not progressed very far. So, what on earth can I feed him (in reality do remember that... -
I have taken pics of Curran's poops in the past and have yet to actually show the pics to anyone. When I felt that 2 months of diarrhea blowouts of 10 to 15 times a day was likely NOT toddlers tummy I decided to get my point across the old fashioned way as describing it to the ped was obviously not working. So I scraped a tablespoon of it out of the diaper...

Just curious if anyone has noticed anxiety in their children who have celiac? I have three boys and the one suspected to have celiac suffers from it and for no apparent reason. It is really bad when he says his tummy hurts. If he is feeling well then there is no anxiety in sight. Is that common? Or am I looking at blaming a personality trait on this...

ARCHIVED Hello New To This Forum Thing ..... Any Other Canadians Here ? Anyone In Bc ?
Chako replied to honeybuzzed's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am in Ottawa and I am new too. I am here researching for my son who is not diagnosed yet. -
This is too funny! I actually have a bunch of Curran's stools on my camera right now as the GI said to bring her some pics if I could! LMBO! She asked me to photograph next to a white background if at all possible. As he has blown out in clothing it is a fun exercise to scrape it out and put it on a paper towel. Sorry if TMI. I can contribute to the...

ARCHIVED What To Look For On Make-up/personal Care Items
Chako replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Playdough has gluten?! Ack. Is it more that they have contact with something which contains gluten then put their hands to their mouths and that causes the problem? It is not a straight contact thing right? Sorry, I just came back to edit this as I see you said bandaid too! Wow. I would actually have to look at bandaids as well? Where is a... -
ARCHIVED What To Look For On Make-up/personal Care Items
Chako replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks so much for posting this! I would suggest making this a *sticky* if it is possible here as I was searching around for something like this. So, I do have a silly question though about products containing gluten. The problem is not so much with contact as it is with possible ingestion through contact, correct? -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Side Effect Of celiac disease?
Chako replied to misgiss's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow. Does he bleed every time he goes potty? And how long has that been going on? Have they ruled out fissures, hemorroids, etc? Are his stools just HUGE? Really, I am not going to be much help as I am new here and searching for answers too. My son is 4 and has had diarrhea stools for 2.5 years now and we are finally with a GI who cares. My son... -
ARCHIVED Do All Celiac Stools Float?
Chako posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just wondering if a true celiac stool will float or is this only in the later stages when lots of damage is already done? Has anyone had stools that do not float and still have been diagnosed celiac? Thanks. -
I am still searching the site and have come across a lot of stuff here but I can not find one thread or such which deals exclusively with a list of concerns for everyday use items. It is shocking to me to find that I will have to keep these things in consideration as well. Other names for gluten if they exist would be great to know as well. I have the...

ARCHIVED Teeth Grinding?
Chako replied to aedems's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What does the rash look like? I know of a few people who have had diagnosis of mastocytosis with perplexing rashes but I am far from an expert in that field. It goes hand in hand with foods the children seem to react to. -
ARCHIVED Teeth Grinding?
Chako replied to aedems's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh, I can not tell you how much teeth grinding bothers me! Nails down a chalkboard, not a problem. Going in to kiss my 6 year old goodnight and finding him grinding away a big problem! lol Seriously, is this an actual symptom? Oddly, my middle son and suspected celiac does not do this at all, it is only my oldest son. Apparently though my DH reports... -
ARCHIVED If A Person W/o celiac disease Goes gluten-free, What Happens?
Chako replied to SuperBeck's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I have a handle on this celiac thing now I would say no to that, correct? Only the gluten would cause the damage to the villi. Casein would cause irritation only. Just me trying to work it out but it is a good question. Also, as we are trying to prepare to get a whole family over to a gluten free trial this question had cropped up in my mind... -
ARCHIVED One More Stool Question...
Chako posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We have seen pretty much everything in terms of Curran's stools. I am just curious if celiacs only have the yellow stool or white stool or can it be other colours and consistencies as well? Or is this a later stage problem? We see a lot of changes in his stool and I am just wondering if people who have been diagnosed via biopsy or such have had this stool... -
ARCHIVED Question About Potty Training And Possible Celiac Stools
Chako replied to Chako's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for the pm Ursula, I got it. I have to tell you that I have read quite a few of your posts and have found you to be very knowledgeable and supportive. It must be frustrating on your end to see a newbie come on with what you see as obvious no brainer questions which you have many answers for and to know a child is suffering. In the short time... -
ARCHIVED Just Curious About "raspberry Rash" On A Child
Chako posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It has been a long time now but my 4 year old had a few reactions early on with the onset of his intestinal issues where he developed a rash the colour of a raspberry with what looked like hives in it on his elbows and knees. We thought he was reacting to a contact with nuts (he is peanut allergic) but we were surprised to see this type of rash as it is...
