ARCHIVED Is There Something About Gluten Free Bread Etc... ?
Byte Me replied to buttonburger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've experienced the same thing with all the gluten-free breads/muffins and pasta I've eaten, and it's definitely not for lack of liking it! There were times I ate disgusting amounts of gluteny equivalents, but I just get filled right up with the gluten-free stuff. I share things I bake with my non-gluten-free mom and she has noticed also that she fills up... -
Hi everybody, I was wondering if anyone here understands and could help me understand better how an EEG works. My teenage daughter had a very odd episode on Dec. 31st of '06 which has led to the discovery of a spot on her brain (no one seems to be able to agree on what it might be) and almost daily recurring symptoms of headaches, dizziness, weird...

I've noticed a difference lately in some products, reading labels of an older product label vs a newer one, Yoplait strawberry cheesecake yogurt being the latest.. the older version stated "modified food starch" on the label, the newer one stated "modified corn starch". I also saw the same thing on the ingredients of some grilled chicken strips in the lunchmeat...

ARCHIVED Please Don't Laugh
Byte Me replied to Sueznrn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
no laughing here! The raviolis were one of my very favorite foods. I bet I dream about them at least twice a month! I'd also love to know if there's anything comparable to them that is safe for us to eat. -

ARCHIVED Haircolor Recommendations?
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Lisa, thanks for that info! Are there any specific brands of henna color that you favor or would recommend over another? Or are they pretty much the same? My hair is a medium brown, if that makes any difference. Does anyone think it is possible to absorb stuff in the haircolor through your scalp and skin? The symptoms I was having weren't so much... -
ARCHIVED Haircolor Recommendations?
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for all the suggestions! Kevsmom, I know I'm being a little vain worrying about covering the gray, but I think we all probably have some little hangup like that about ourselves. I started going gray in junior high...as if acne isn't bad enough at that age, lol! I'm just not ready to give up the haircoloring yet. I am sorry that you went through... -

ARCHIVED Symtons For Coelic
Byte Me replied to kev001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Kev, I don't really know anything about the joint pain and swelling, but I do know about the depression and weakness - those were major symptoms for me that I didn't even realize could be related to celiac. It was a really nice surprise when those started fading away! As for the time to feel better, well I think it is probably different for... -
ARCHIVED Haircolor Recommendations?
Byte Me posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK, I feel really stupid about this...ever since going gluten-free last June, I have religiously read labels of *everything* -- except my haircolor. It never even occurred to me to check! So, I'm in the bathroom tonight, and just casually reading the haircolor box, and it says right there in very noticeable print: "Contains ionic wheat germ protein". GRR... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Legume/soy Free Licorice?
Byte Me replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, here's that first link you mentioned...there was a space between 'gluten' and 'free' in the URL, hard to spot! Open Original Shared Link free.com/item_detail.aspx?ItemCode=951023 HTH EDIT: something in the bulletin board software seems to be adding that space, I can't edit it out or anything. weird! you could just copy/paste the link... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Bread
Byte Me replied to ladybugpumpkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, I had problems with the pamela's bread mix too, and then I decided to mix very warm water with a tablespoon or so of honey, and add the yeast to that and let it sit for a few minutes until it is foamy-looking. Then I mix everything up in the mixer and stick it in a loaf pan and it bakes up MUCH nicer. I don't have a bread machine, and I've... -
ARCHIVED Would You Eat This?
Byte Me replied to emcmaster's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it would be okay. I didn't even know there was a Kraft/Oscar Meyer gluten-free food list; I've just been going by their policy that they will list any potential allergens and I've had no trouble with any of their products. HTH! -
ARCHIVED Food Labels
Byte Me replied to susiek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
About trusting labels... has anyone else noticed that Wal-Mart has had an increasing number of food labels (their store brand) that specifically say "Gluten Free" on them? I absolutely loathe the company, but I have noticed the gluten-free labels on the stuff my mom buys, and as expensive as my new gluten-free shopping has been, it has me considering shopping... -
ARCHIVED Reflux Came Back/got Worse After Gluten?
Byte Me replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would think it is very possible. I know I read somewhere (actually I think it was a response to something I posted somewhere on this board) that acid reflux is a symptom of gluten intolerance. And especially if he is having D to go along with it I would suspect gluten. When I had my endoscopy done, the GI said I had significant damage from acid reflux... -
ARCHIVED Can Kids Go Nuts When Gluten Removed?
Byte Me replied to Mia H's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Mia! My youngest daughter is VERY much like the way you describe your daughter! She is 12 years old now. She isn't quite as bad about things bugging her now as when she was little, but sometimes she still jumps up all of a sudden, says she can't stand to wear (fill in the blank here, lol) anymore, and changes clothes. Food textures, same thing here... -
ARCHIVED Floaters And Antibiotics And Celiac
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Tiffany, I knew it was pretty weird about the antibiotics clearing up the floaters, just didn't know what to make of it really. My dad had some of his clear up also a few years back when he was on cipro, but you are right, it doesn't make much sense! Steve, I'm 33. I've had floaters since I was in my late teens, with a significant increase... -
Hi, I did a quick search on "floaters" and didn't see any results quite like what I'm looking for; I apologize if I overlooked something. A few weeks before I diagnosed myself and went gluten free, my doctor had me on 2000mg/day for 10 days of Cipro and Flagyl. These didn't do squat for my celiac symptoms, but I noticed a very dramatic decrease...

Just be aware that eventually benadryl will have a rebound effect if you take it too often, and tolerance to it can build quickly. I was using it to sleep and for my anxiety for a while, and without realizing it, after a few weeks it was just making everything 100x worse. I actually went through withdrawal symptoms when I realized what was happening and stopped...

Byte Me replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
WOW... I would have never thought this was related to gluten! I have had the 'spiders descending' dream or terror or whatever you want to call it, off and on again for the past 15 years or so. It seems SO real.. I wake up in a complete panic, knowing it was a dream but still CONVINCED there are hundreds of spiders hanging from my ceiling until I work up the... -
ARCHIVED Sad And Angry
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks to everyone for your responses (especially the dart board idea, thanks Berneses.. hehe). I'm feeling better about the whole thing now, except I wish I had just tried going gluten free in the first place - I wouldn't be stuck with all these medical bills!! The diet change has definitely made a big difference. The apple cider vinegar thing seems... -
ARCHIVED Sad And Angry
Byte Me posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I first went to see my Dr. about all the symptoms I've been having, never once did the phrase "irritable bowel syndrome" come out of his mouth - he immediately suspected celiac or chron's. 11 days ago, when I had my colonoscopy and egd, OF COURSE the first thing out of the GI's mouth is "oh, its probably ONLY IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNROME" !!!! Sure... -
ARCHIVED Is It Absolutely Necessary To Buy All New Stuff?
Byte Me replied to Byte Me's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would never ever have thought of needing to replace the can opener... I'm so glad you mentioned that!! I have one more question.. I have a smooth glass cutting board, it has absolutely no scratches on it that I can see or feel... is there a good chance that it will be safe? Thank you so very much to all of you for all the input and support... -
ARCHIVED Is It Absolutely Necessary To Buy All New Stuff?
Byte Me posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I have read quite a few posts here that mention getting new dishes, pots, pans, toaster, etc. and I was wondering if this is an absolute must? There's no way I could afford to do that, not all at once anyway. It would take several months. I'm having a 'double' tuesday morning, but regardless of what the results say I'm still going gluten free...
