  1. Aaaannnnd, you're gonna miss what part of PA??
  2. Pouring rain here. Lyle is fussing because he wants me to come back to the bedroom with him. Lefty is fussing because he wants to be on my lap. Max is napping because he got his canned food and there isn't much in life worth asking for beyond a freshly opened can of sea food pate.
  3. I see why I don't find that quote offensive. If I'm going to engage in something as pointless as complaining, without seeking a solution, then I accept that I am acting the fool. Others see it as a righteous expression of their feelings. And I see why the other quote was acceptable to some: If it isn't me they're dishing dirt about, then it's ok...
  4. Hey! Susie's the one with a wild thang with a zonked weasel! I can't even type that without giggling
  5. Why does this whole paragraph sound incredibly naughty?
  6. I don't think you'll find conclusive answers from either side. That's the problem. The "vaccines cause no problems" camp says that autism rates don't increase with vaccine rates. And that children that are going to develop autism develop it during the same time frame as they are receiving vaccinations, so it may look as if the vaccine has caused the...
  7. I don't understand your point. That quote, to me, suggests that people should fully consider their positions before speaking up. Are they only criticizing and complaining? Or do they have something to offer?
  8. red peppers with hummus. make little crackers by putting teaspoons of parmesan cheese onto foil on a baking tray and melting until crisp. red wine tapioca pudding. no, wait, that's dessert. guacamole with sun dried tomatoes.
  9. I would also ask your doctor what drugs she plans to use to insert it. Mine, in her words, "numbed the heck out of my cervix". Made it a pretty unmemorable event. I had read other's experiences where they were told to take 4 advil before coming in. This also might be sufficient, so think about what your feelings are towards drugs, and ask.
  10. Glad the first one is over. Having gone through three knee surgeries, my advice to your sister is DO YOUR PT! it makes the recovery so much better.

  12. Shot into the knee has worn off. ow apparently they do the surgery by stretching my knee six ways from Sunday to see all the insides. Ah well. It'll get better. Pass me the Vicodin.
  13. I only meant to emphasize that we all choose our frame of reference, and surround ourselves with people that have the same frame of reference. Your point was that "... the idealistic view of the doctor as well-educated, caring expert in the health of his/her patients is still part of our culture. " My point was that it's not a universally accepted cultural...
  14. Again, your experiences do not mirror mine. I was raised to believe that staying healthy was my job, and doctors were only there if something was beyond my capabilities to repair (like broken bones). Nor do the majority of people I interact with feel as you do. Perhaps we choose which cultures to be a part of. Any doctor that does not respect my opinion...
  15. OK, that's way too long to read, and I don't use other people's interpretations to form my opinions, so I'll stick with emphasizing "almost never", on the assumption that the study shows otherwise. Actually, I'll edit this to say:, maybe the FDA should commission outside labs to verify company findings before granting licenses. Actually I'll edit this...
  16. I would say 'of equal benefit' depending on how you use them. I don't know what your sister was told, vs what she heard. We all have selective hearing. After this whole gluten thing came up for me, I was discussing it with a friend and she said 'oh, I'm allergic to wheat'. She brought me a copy of her test results and there, on the form, was gluten...
  17. I think the medical system is a tool, to be used as I see fit. Not a savior, designed to protect me from myself. Your sister could have chosen to research Celiac, instead, she chose to blindly follow what she was told. She willingly gave control of her health to someone else. IMHO, her poor results were a direct consequence of her unwillingness to take...
  18. The university owns the patent, if you get one (which isn't common) but any research funded by the government, which is most research that takes place at universities, is required to become publicly available, either through publications, or on web based databases. I haven't researched it, but I've never heard of a case of a university censoring publication...
  19. My 17 year old niece, who didn't even finish high school, took the time to educate herself on vaccinations for her son before he was born. I don't think it has anything to do with education, more with trust. You trusted an institution (medicine) she didn't.
  20. I was approaching this from the independent researcher being unable to publish. It is true that whoever pays the bills, holds the data. However, I have never heard of a medical school, or a university funding research. They can't really afford it. This has not been my experience. You can publish anywhere. It is true that having a known name in the...
  21. YAY! Manda's got credit! Mark's home! Jack gets a new ponderable! Sorry about your friend, Em. I know there's a lot of stress involved, but please assure her that once she gets those womanly bits removed, she'll be delighted with the effects.
  22. This is the same statement made for all iuds
