  1. I haven't tried the English muffins.
  2. No, I didn't know that. Thanks for that tip. I haven't seen that bread, I'll have to look more closely and see if I come across it.
  3. Cool - thank you ! That's awful about your alfalfa allergy !!
  4. I don't know if this is the appropriate place for this or not - I guess it'll get moved if not ! Does anyone know if it's safe to take alfalfa (in capsule form) to boost milk supply ? Both my son and I are GS. I've taken it in the past (before I was diagnosed) so I know it works, I just wasn't sure if it was still safe. Thanks !
  5. Not an option for us, unfortunately....my son is allergic to cow's milk & eggs as well. Otherwise I would have tried that.
  6. I've really been dreading talking to the daycare about getting glutened from play-doh, paints, etc. I found some information on this site that I thought the daycare would find helpful, so I printed up an information packet and brought it in. They've had a few questions about Ryan's gluten sensitivity, so I figured it would be helpful if they had clear...
  7. I have to brag just a bit because I'm fortunate enough to have a three year old that's not a very picky eater. He'll eat just about anything - broccoli, salads, cauliflower....all the stuff many three year olds turn their nose up at. I was shopping yesterday and came across some gluten-free, yeast-free bread by Ener-G. I wasn't real confident it would taste...
  8. My son's name is Ryan too ! My Ryan has allergies to milk, eggs, and soy, and we recently found out he's gluten sensitive too. He was 8 lbs. 9 ozs. and 23" at birth. He has always been no less than 50th percentile for weight (and is currently 97th), and always above the 100th percentile for height. He's tall and slim. He's had ongoing issues with soft...
  9. I was just reading that Dr. Fine likes (and recommends) Culturelle - which is Lactobacillus.
  10. Yes, I'm still considering talking to them. What I want to do is educate them on issues such as cross-contamination, gluten in play-doh, etc. I don't feel like I'm comfortable enough with the info yet to really say anything at this point. I also feel like I need "proof" - something printed out and "official" looking to show them. Otherwise I'm pretty sure...
  11. Ahhhhhhhh chocolate......yummy.
  12. Sounds like he ended up doing pretty well yesterday. He did tantrum once because there were cupcakes there and he wanted one. The teacher told him that it would make him sick, and that the rice krispy treats I sent were so much better, and then gave him an extra one. He ate more sugar yesterday than he's probably eaten in the last six months - and...
  13. Oh I know how it speeds by. I can't believe he's 3 months old now already ! I nursed my first for a year (who's now three, much to my dismay, lol). Here's the real kicker - I've already dropped all the baby weight. It literally fell right off within two weeks of giving birth. I'm not saying that to brag - I think it's really odd that the baby weight...
  14. I've been hypoglycemic since about the age of 15, and haven't "officially" been diagnosed as gluten intolerant. I learned through having my son tested that I at least carry one gene for gluten sensitivity. I've found that since cutting out glutens my hypoglycemia has settled down quite a bit. I'm one of those people that the key *is* protein to keep my glucose...
  15. Thanks for all the replies and wonderful support (as usual!). All of you are right - I do need to slow down and quit being in a hurry. I've been eating the wrong way for over 35 years, I guess expecting the weight to just drop off after only a couple weeks is a little silly. Like I said, the bigger annoyance was always being hungry, and the...
  16. No juice here. Water, coffee, and Mother's Milk tea. I too gained weight while nursing my first son. I'm more annoyed by the feeling of being hungry so often than I am about wanting to lose weight. I probably need to increase protein, like you said. It's better for my blood sugar anyway.
  17. Looks like I'm rather chatty today! Ok, this problem is going to be quite muddled. My feelings won't be hurt if nobody has an answer to this ! I'm breastfeeding my three month old son, and plan to continue until he's at least a year. Going DF/SF/gluten-free has made a big improvement in BOTH of us, which is WONDERFUL. The problem ? I'M ALWAYS...
  18. Can you believe I've never made rice krispy treats before ?? I was surprised at how quickly they went together. I decided not to do the coconut and instead just melted some Enjoy Life chocolate chips and topped the treats with that. They came out good, though I think they needed a little more marshmallow than the recipe called for. Thanks so much...
  19. Char, I'm running into that type of attitude too. Maddening, isn't it ?? My son's halloween party was today. I'm hoping they followed the directions I gave them. He's beginning to grasp the concept that certain foods will make him sick - but only if he's told that (he's only 3), so he's still totally dependent that the adults around him will keep their...
  20. I hope so. I noticed it the past couple times I've eaten them but was kind of in denial that's what it was.
  21. So it seems now that I've gone gluten-free, more and more food sensitivities are cropping up. Dairy, soy, oats (probably from cc). Yesterday I had 2 apples and noticed they hurt my stomach. I was at work and starving (I inadvertently didn't bring enough food), and noticed the first apple bothered me a few hours earlier. But I figured between the apple and...
  22. LOL !!!! So they had a sign-up sheet for all of us to put down which snacks we were going to bring. I was the first one to sign up, and I put down rice krispy treats. (Which, btw, came out YUMMY with Erewhorn crispy rice and Enjoy Life chocolate chips melted on top !!). ANOTHER parent made some too (plain) ! I packed Ryan's separately in his lunch...
  23. Ohhhhh I'm glad you mentioned that because I was going to do that very thing !
  24. EXACTLY !! She did add "I know that we had a kid last year that was allergic to (something - I was tuning her out because I was ticked), that kept her son home." Even if I had the luxury of staying home whenever I wanted, that simply isn't fair to Ryan. He's gotta be a kid too. Plus I have to admit, it did come to mind that maybe she was asking...
  25. That's what I figured !!
