ARCHIVED Perspiring During Eating?
Mamato2boys replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I remember my grandfather used to do this - every time he ate he'd sweat profusely. So much so that beads of sweat would roll down his face. I've always wondered what caused that - and I've never seen it with anybody else. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Challenge
Mamato2boys replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
ITA !!! My son's bloodwork was also negative, but was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity through Enterolab. We found out that both DH and I have GS genes as well, so we've ALL gone on the gluten-free diet. My son's poop is getting better, DH says he feels better than he has since high school, I'm feeling a ton better and even beginning to lose a little... -
ARCHIVED Can I Slap Them ? Please ?!
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
See, I operate under that assumption too. That people AREN'T going to get it because they don't live with it, day in & day out - and I can understand that. It's only normal I think. Which is why I pack him more than enough food every day and then circle what he can have on their posted menu each week. Cheerios is NOT a circled item - EVER ! I guess... -

ARCHIVED Can I Slap Them ? Please ?!
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
LOL, yes it is too bad, isn't it ?? Not too long ago I sent some Mary's Gone Crackers with Ryan to daycare (in his lunchbox). One of the employees said they "looked like birdseed." Consequently, Ryan will not touch them. I pulled the assistant director aside and told her it was VERY important the staff not make negative comments about his food... -
ARCHIVED Can I Slap Them ? Please ?!
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I thought of that on my way out the door and asked the assistant director if I could do that. She said that was fine and I think I'll do that. This isn't the first issue I've had with them. I sat down with the director and assistant director and told them that while eating the wrong foods doesn't cause an IMMEDIATE emergency, that over a lifetime this... -
ARCHIVED Shared Enterolab Results With Ped
Mamato2boys replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If it makes you feel any better, I shared our results with my son's GI doctor and she totally doesn't believe in EnteroLab either. She basically told me I had been ripped off, and said "the celiac diet sucks." Yup. My son has two GS genes. We had NO idea we were gluten sensitive too. His results specifically said that meant that DH and I have... -
ARCHIVED Can I Slap Them ? Please ?!
Mamato2boys posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have both of my boys in the same daycare. My older son is 3 (he's the one that was officially diagnosed GS). I gave the daycare a copy of the EnteroLab results for his file, and told them he can have the items I circle on their menu (basically it ends up just being fruits & veggies and occasionally tater tots with ketchup). Everything else I provide... -

Rice Dream actually has some gluten in it. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Children To Heal?
Mamato2boys replied to prinsessa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You should know that if you suspect your son is sensitive/allergic to cow's milk, there's about a 30% cross-reaction rate with soy (in other words, about a 30% chance he'll react to soy milk too). I would suggest gluten-free rice milk instead. Wild Oats carries one....it's called Pacific something or other (somebody help me out with the name here, lol). I... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing Infant
Mamato2boys replied to Parvelle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so glad to hear this. I was one who posted about feeling sad for my boys. I have a three year old and 2 1/2 month old. We had our 3 year old tested and were shocked to find out that both DH and I carry GS genes. The 3 year old seems to be grasping the concept that certain foods will make him sick and give him "D", and (so far) accepts it if I tell him... -

ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Help?!
Mamato2boys replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can also make up your own diaper rash cream - I got the recipe from www.askdrsears.com In your hand, mix up Boudreaux's Butt Paste, lanolin, and 2% hydrocortizone cream. The hydrocortizone can only be used twice a day for up to two weeks, but the rest of the mixture can be used with every diaper change. I would put a REALLY thick layer on my son's... -
ARCHIVED First Foods
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Personally, we will never do cow's milk. My older son is sensitive to it anyway, and during my research to try to sort out his issues I learned a lot about cow's milk and the effect it has on our bodies, and am now disgusted by it. My older son has never liked it, and when he was two called it "yucky milk" when we did the challenge at his pediatrician's office... -
ARCHIVED The Baby Has It Too.....
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Could be. I know that with my DH cutting out glutens has made an ENORMOUS difference - literally like night & day. He was taking Zantac every day - sometimes he'd take 2 and then Tums on top of it, and was STILL having at least 1 or 2 reflux episodes a week. Sometimes they'd be so bad he'd cough incessantly and spit up stomach acid. This also caused a... -
ARCHIVED The Baby Has It Too.....
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yup, Aiden has had several of those poops - the ones where it fills his diaper AND his clothes, lol. It's watery almost all the time, with the occasional mucusy-look to it. The other thing I noticed is his reflux improved A LOT when I cut out glutens. My DH has reflux which improved with the gluten-free diet, which also made me suspicious about Aiden's... -
Isn't it weird ?? I don't know how the heck the two are connected - DH hasn't lost enough weight (if any at all), for his pain to be strictly weight-related.

ARCHIVED The Baby Has It Too.....
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had looked it up, and it characterized his stools as being "normal" (the orange ones), but it just didn't seem right to me. He went through the normal newborn poops - black, green, etc. and then they went to the normal yellow, seedy ones with almost every nursing. Then he changed to pooping every couple days (which I know is normal) at about six weeks of... -
ARCHIVED First Foods
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for that ! I'm debating about skipping cereals altogether. I've read a few things on it that says fruits & veggies are a better first food, too. I wanted to see what the input was from everyone here, since we're all actually living with this. -
ARCHIVED The Baby Has It Too.....
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's a really good point - I never realized how crappy certain foods made me feel until I started going gluten-free. I think the part that makes me sad about it all, is that they're going to be "different" in other kids' eyes. Being a kid is hard enough without having a glaringly obvious difference like that. I anticipate them being made fun of in school... -
ARCHIVED First Foods
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, I know. I was planning on nursing him until he turned 1, but considering our family GI issues, I may have to extend that a bit. I haven't decided yet. I was planning on trying him on solids around 6 months (if he's ready - later if he's not), and wasn't sure what I should start with. Any suggestions ? -
I'm a newbie, so you'll have to forgive the stupid question. My older son was diagnosed as being gluten sensitive, and it turns out my youngest has it, too. (I figured out he was getting it through my breastmilk, so I've gone gluten-free too). He's only 10 1/2 weeks old so I obviously am not feeding him solids yet, but I was just curious about that. You...

Yes - I'm going through that right now. Not fun. It's amazing to me that your body can crave the very thing you're most sensitive to ! Breastfeeding seems to bring it out even worse for some reason - I remember going through the same thing when I was nursing Ryan. I may have to order the chocolate chips - I can't seem to find them anywhere...

That's so weird !! The funny thing is, my left foot started bothering me recently - and I've never had foot problems before. It'll be interesting to see if that goes away with the diet. I've been totally gluten free since Sunday. Probably doesn't sound like much of an accomplishment, but I am a die-hard gluten/carb junkie. As a matter of fact, I think...

Yes, definitely skip the douching. If you have a bacterial infection, you're only going to wash the bacteria further up into the vagina. Also, I heard quite some time ago that douching is connected to cervical cancer (due to flushing of bacteria up near the cervix). OB/GYNs now tell you never to use a d%$#@#$ AT ALL unless you've been prescribed a medical...
